What if Green Day did a tour with the original members only?

It would be cool to see as a one off, but it definitely should never be more than that. I love their shows as they are now, without all the extra guys they could never make it so much of a spectacle and I doubt the crowd interaction could be anywhere near as good. I love them all anyway :)

I'd love to see just Billie, Tre and Mike in a really small venue as a one off at some point, but permanently, no, I don't think it'd work out.

It would be interesting to see, definitely. Not sure if it would work out for an entire tour, but the odd show would be cool  .

When I saw this I was reminded of this

green day right now are so perfect thanks to every member of them but seeing the 3 guys only would be really...uhmmm..how can I say it??...interesting! XD

I saw GD twice in their original format, and I can tell you first hand, they are JUST as good and produce JUST as big of a sound as a 3-piece.

If this happens, it would have to be in much smaller venues.

Why?

I think I would enjoy seeing it happen but I'm not sure =/ I would think a lot of the show would be lost due to it, like the keyboard parts/sax etc. King for a Day especially. Although it would be like a blast from the past so cool :D

I really think I'd get a kick out of seeing just the three of them up onstage, honestly.

There are definitely some songs where I've noticed the Jasons aren't playing anything, though. Or if they are playing, they're barely playing.

That would be pretty awesome, actually.

But I really don't mind it either way - the shows are awesome with the others as well.

I'd love to see that at like a small venue, maybe the Jasons duo could support :)

I've watched videos of just Billie, Mike and Tré playing songs that appear with sax or another instrument in the album like Jackass, and I don't think they'd really need Jason White or Jason Freese, I mean, they're all pretty damn good at what they do and I have no trouble with them performing with the band live, I think they're amazing people and musicians, but I can't deny I would finker2.pngin love watching the only three original GD members performing one of these days.

This. Totally this.

I love the big spectacle with the Jasons and Jeff that they put on, but I would absolutely relish the opportunity to see shows the way they used to be with just the original three.

I don't think it would work for a whole tour, but maybe for a one off small tour between albums. I wouldn't change the way Green Day are now for anything, they're hitting their peak live and are one of the best live bands around, if not the best. They can only get better :).

If it means only old school songs.. bring it on. I think it would feel more intimate and nice since really THEY are green day. ya'know?!

-shrug- I don't think it'd be that different, honestly. It's a cool idea but we're never going to have the Green Day of the early 90s back, as much as we could romantasize the idea. They've just grown up and beyond that. In a roots sense it'd be cool to see them do a smaller scale stripped down thing like that, but it'd just be a like a parady of themselves, like a 50 year old rock star trying to fit into his old leather outfits. GD are better than that.

It would be totally different.

I for one would like to see that one day :)

that sounds really cool. if they like did a smaller tour/ only a few shows and they played only songs with the 3 of them

i'd really like that too

i'd like to see that once.just the 3 in their roots. billie had a lot more guitar to do though

No one's admitted it, but it's taken several years for Jason to get used to playing with them. He's gotten a lot better at playing in the past couple of years, whereas he'd fuck up a whole lot of times on the American Idiot tour, or he just couldn't keep up the rhythm in his strumming.

Now that they've got Jason playing rhythm guitar on the older cuts, it actually makes the songs sound more like the recordings because most older tunes had doubletracked guitar.

I'm sure they'll appear as a 3-piece again sometime. But, in an informal context only. Say, a surprise gig....if they would even still do those things at this point.

So who knows! Hey...does anyone feel like with all the extra people on stage, Mike gets a little lost in the mix now? I have the feeling Mike isn't the most excited or most comfortable touring out of the bunch.

Plus, Blue doesn't pack the same punch anymore. That's where Jason comes in. So weird that they mix Billie's guitars at a lower volume than Jason's. I hate that.

Yes! That makes me so sad, it shouldnt be that way! It breaks my heart when no one knows who Mike is or think he has no personaliuty. :(

Yeah, I've kinda noticed this too. Which is sad, because Mike is my favorite member of Green Day.

I think the dark side of their concerts getting more and more crazy is that Mike can end up going unnoticed. Mike is more introverted, but he's still really fun to watch play, in a different kind of way. He puts a lot of intensity and passion into his bass playing; it's palpable.

I actually think Mike is the most well-spoken member in Green Day too, so it's sad to see him be overshadowed in the interviews with the band too. He's very intelligent; Billie Joe just has that bright charisma, and Tre has that freakin' crazy sense of humor. I love them all, but let Mike talk, dammit!

i think itd be cool. i imagine if they ever did anything like this they would be playing much smaller venues, which would also be cool. and it actually wouldnt be that hard for billie to still prance around on stage if they did this, lots of bands do that and its not like most of green day's guitar parts are terribly complex haha.

A throwback tour would be awesome, but unlikely. Well idk. A lot of bands are doing this kind of thing now. Jason didn't join til Warning, so they would still have a lot of material to work with. Those shows would sell out faster than ever though.

it would be classiccccccccc

i would love it

That would be a bit difficult to them. Billie wouldn't be able to entertain crowd basically at all + I'd feel there would be something missing.. But of course, the concerts still would be epic without Jasons and Jeff!

Watch videos on YouTube of the band performing back in the day. Billie is just as entertaining as he is now.
