jon18 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I think "Cigarettes and Valentines" (album) was a rock opera whose Olivia is the main character like Gloria in "21st Century Breakdown". It's my theory.
broooks77 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 can you settle with a combination of our versions? ..it go on and watch from afar we .... and step in the mud It makes no sense but you misunderstood The city is in ruins, but there's a flower in the crack of the streets Olivia, Olivia, I'll give you my best safe in my arms, I'll lay you to rest you can borrow my coat, you and the dress Olivia, Olivia, come follow me home I'm thinking the line about the dress is... "you can borrow my coat, you can wear the dress"
Ellenkc Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Ooh I love Olivia! It has a great vibe to it. Was there much missing from the video or just the first 1/2 lines?
MascaraTears Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 neither song is my favorite green day song ever but I definitely like them... it's just really really exciting that they're finally (maybe) being released. and of course I'm ecstatic about the live album
RobyRoom Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I liked Olivia, I got really emotional listening to it. C&V is an average song, I'm not really in to it
Francois Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Stay The Night, Dream Catcher, Cigarettes and Valentines... Probably only the latter will be on the live album, but this new (or actually old) material really excites me!!! Hopefully we won't have to wait half a decade for a new album!
xjernpqvrnbfv Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I love the new songs! Can't wait for the live album! C&V has a sweet melody. Olivia is boring. Olivia is beautiful!!
Maddy. Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Olivia is beautiful!! Meh, I've heard better, and similar. But then again, it's only a 30 second snippet and we cannot judge whether it is a good or bad song from those seconds. I suppose when they (if they) release a studio version of them, that we could have a proper ~discussion.
cherrybomb! Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 this is amazing! I'm insanely jelous of anyone who was at that gig lol! I am in love with Cigarettes and Valentines i think it's a great song. I'm not as kean on Olivia, i think he's written better slow/acoustic songs but i still really like it.
Moffie Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Olivia is too wordy for me. It has pretty chords but the lyrics are meh. I'm glad it exists, though. I remember people weren't even sure if it was real.
GreeN_DaY_4_EveR Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Olivia is a really good song but i don't think we can judge it if we don't hear the full song

Maddy. Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Hmm yeah we should wait. It's still super exciting to hear those 'new' songs! I do hope that they will eventually release them officially. Because, from the two snippets, I can't make much out of them and it just sounds a bit shit because it wasn't recorded professionally. Although, I think C&V sounds very Warning-esque and less American Idiot-like. Not sure what that means but yeah. It sounds like Warning. But all of Warning sounds the same. Idk. I'm not making much sense right now.

I'd love to hear a proper recording of those songs.
Mrs.Kerplunk Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 olivia sounds lovely. and i'm totally in love with C&V
whatshername0303 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 A not really new song : C&V + Olivia + A new live album = All these things made my day! Great!

Jacob. Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Here are the lyrics to Olivia (or what it sounds like to me) Olivia, ___________ before ____________________ stepped in the mud that makes no sense and you misunderstood this city's in run/ ruin but the ________________ on the streets Olivia, olivia, I'll give you my best safe in my arms are laid to rest you can borrow my coat and you wear the dress Olivia, Olivia, come follow me home
LetItBeHappy Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 my mom can't understand why I'm listening to the same songs over and over again! I'll tell her when she ask... if she ask anyways... Me likes them very much, specially Olivia. C&V reminds me of Stay the night. They have a similar idea, don't you think? with the "I don't wanna go back home, I don't wanna kiss goodnight". Maybe Stay the night is the opening song, with the "i don't wanna say goodbye!" and this was the end of the album? Or maybe they are totally unrelated And could Olivia and Drama Queen be about the same person?
Nele Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Wait, what are Stay the Night and Dreamcatcher? Two new songs that got played during soundchecks. I think the threads about them got deleted for whatever reason but you can find them on youtube.
XxRedundantCastaway86xX Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 This is a great day for Green Day fans. We finally get to hear what most likely was the title track to Cigarettes and Valentines, and we also get to hear a short, but great clip of Olivia, which I've always really wanted to hear for some reason. I think both of the songs are amazing, Cigarettes and Valentines is a truly kick ass song and Olivia is really beautiful, the lyrics that I can make out of it are terrific. Anyway this just makes me even more excited for the new live album, but also excited for their future concerts on this tour, knowing there's a good chance they could play some more unreleased songs, and hopefuilly videos will surface, haha.
