AnnA™ Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Olivia doesn't sound like a "typical" Green Day song, while Cigarettes and Valentines really does in my opinion. So I don't know, I like them both in different ways. Olivia was really sweet though, I have to say.

I feel the same, the reason why people think C&V sounds familiar is because, it is the familiar green day soud! Olivia is one of those lullabies that I just love, like Drama Queen, and such.
Nele Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Omg! asayrygcidwecfvs C&V is really awesome! It reminds me of the Ramones a tiny bit, really catchy song! I also like Olivia.. but not as much, idk, it's a nice song though.
Katarina. Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 It makes no sense but you misunderstood The city is in ruins, but there's a flower in the crack of the streets Olivia, Olivia, I'll give you my best safe in my arms, I'll lay you to rest you can borrow my coat, you and the dress Olivia, Olivia, come follow me home That's pretty much what I hear too. The 'there's a flower in the crack of the street' part is nice. Olivia is such a sweet song
ifmemoryserves Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Y'know, I'm probably gonna get a lot of shit for this, and I'm not saying I'm not happy they played them, but they're not that amazing. They're decent songs, sure, but you can see why with C&V they decided to start over and I'm really glad they did, because the basic ideas are obvious in that song buttaking into account AI / 21CB with that song as kind of a starting point, it's obvious how much they expanded on those ideas and turned them into something amazing, rather than a mediocre song which I feel C&V is. Sorry if I offended anyone with that, don't get me wrong I'm really happy to hear them. I'm just glad they decided to push themselves all those years ago because I think if they had released C&V as an album instead of AI, things would be really different for them now. Agree completely. But yeah it is really cool that they played them.
unabrasiveadhesive Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 C & v is a really good song but not as good as American idiot so from the title tracks I would say I'm glad ai gets released. I don't like Olivia , but that's just me
Eirik Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 can you settle with a combination of our versions? ..it go on and watch from afar we .... and step in the mud It makes no sense but you misunderstood The city is in ruins, but there's a flower in the crack of the streets Olivia, Olivia, I'll give you my best safe in my arms, I'll lay you to rest you can borrow my coat, you and the dress Olivia, Olivia, come follow me home I think it's "you wear the dress"

So I don't know, I like them both in different ways. Olivia was really sweet though, I have to say. That's funny, the first thing I thought when hearing Cigs&Valentines, was that it didn't sound typically Green Day. It has some of the Green Day thing to it, but not all... and Olivia, I still have to find the right word for. But I don't think it doesn't sound like a Green Day song. Although it does remind me of this other song, I don't know which one, but I think it's a Dutch song.... I love it, it's like, a fuzzy, warm song.
94th nimrod. Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 OMG!!! THIS IS!!!! HOLYCRAP!!! I'm soooooo HAPPY!! I can't wait!! I almost cried when I saw this! Jeez...

LinziLetterbomb Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Cannot wait for this album now! Olivia is a beautiful song
sammers93 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Loved Cigarettes and Valentines Not too sure about Olivia, maybe once I hear the whole thing I'll like it. (I love how he laughs during Last Night on Earth in the vid, though) xD
saraHsunshine Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I'm really excited we are getting to see and hear this material now I mean, I am glad they started over and recorded AI, but I love that they are bringing some of these songs back now!!
OliDayyy Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I'm so excited! Especially because "Olivia" is my name
Adeline.Hearts.You Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I don;t know if anyone put these link up here but i just found Olivia, and Cigarettes and Valentines. Good recordings as well - Olivia http://www.youtube.com/user/csilver522#p/a/u/0/ATz8DH6p0V0 - Cigarettes and Valentines
farley drexel hatcher Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Anyone think Olivia might be about his mum? I mean it sounds like it's about a different time, to me at least. And Ollie could be short for Olivia. Just an idea
Nickofsuburbia Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 C&V sounds a LOT like Armatage Shanks to me. It's like if Armatage Shanks and the Warning mated this would be the song produced
RyBiggs Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 HOLY CRAP! I'm loving BOTH of these songs. Olivia definitely reminds me of an old Irish folk song. And C&V is just plain classic sounding. Though it'll be interesting to see how C&V does on the live album, and how the studio recording will be, that is if they are in fact releasing it on the live album. Hell, the live version could even be better than the recorded version! It's happened before. Nobody cared about "I Want You To Want Me" until Cheap Trick released the live version. Though I can't think of an example where the song came out on the live album FIRST. o.O
JadedHaushinka Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 omg can't believe they've actually played these unreleased songs!! here's a video of olivia: Credit and many thanks to silver who posted it in the tour thread! Thanks. Very beautiful. That BJ laugh during LNOE. Aww.
pisquano Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I like Olivia very much...And cigarettes and valentines too, it really has the Insomniac sound, to me.

coghlan351595 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I am really glad that they have decided to release some of this stuff! Hopefully for a new album coming out soon! But actually I am glad they waited, becuase if they didn't release american idiot, the band would not b the same
