Bastard of 1967 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I'm really digging Cigarettes and Valentines, can't wait for the live album! Me too, it's just a shame they shelved it when they were transitioning into the AI era. I agree that they "needed" to take AI where they did, but that doesn't detract/distract any from how good C&V itself is. I love hearing Mike's bass lines so distinctly again, and the song overall has such a Ramones-like feel to it.... kindof like "Kerplunk!" but evolved.
1039slappygirl Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I'm loving Cigarettes and Valentines and Olivia so far As someone said before, AI was perfect record, but that doesn't mean Cigarettes wouldn't have been a really good one too Thanks a lot to everyone who's post videos and lyrics here, you've indirecly made me happy!
warding_off_regrets Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Same here!! Really getting a Dylanesque vibe from Olivia - hope we can hear a full version of it on an official release! "The city's in ruins but there's a flower in the crack of the streets," is such a pretty line too! I hear it too! There's something very "Mr. Tambourine Man" about the way he sings "Olivia, Olivia come follow me home." I love these songs!
GreeN_DaY_4_EveR Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Is it my idea or Cigarettes and Valentines is similar to "blitzkrieg bop" of Ramones ?
Conspiracy. Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 My dream: A live album with all the rare songs that were played during the tour (C&V, Olivia, Letterbomb, Homecoming, Whatsername, 86, etc.) + a live DVD of Wembley.
RockinRyan13 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 It's fuckin' amazing that we have lot of new music: It's Fuck timeStay the NightDreamcatcherCigarettes and ValentinesOlivia Did I leave out something? I'm just listening them all day fuck time is originally a FBHT song
1039slappygirl Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Is it my idea or Cigarettes and Valentines is similar to "blitzkrieg bop" of Ramones ? No, I do think so too!
GuitaRocker4567 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I don't wanna go back home I don't wanna kiss goodnight Let us paralyze this moment til it dies To the end of the earth Under the Valley of the Stars There's a car crashing deep inside my heart Take a ride through the avenues Across the Great Divide There's a siren screaming "I'm alive" It creis Red alert is the color Of your paper valentines Intertwined on this moment passing by Take a ride through the avenues Across the Great Divide There's a siren screaming "I'm alive" It creis Red alert is the color Of your paper valentines Intertwined on this moment passing by Do you wanna be my valentine? So come with me (?) We ........... tonight (?) With cigarettes and valentines Cigarettes and valentines! So come with me (?) We ........... tonight (?) With cigarettes and valentines So come with me (?) We ........... tonight (?) With cigarettes and valentines Cigarettes and valentines! Haha maybe something like that? The part "So Come with me we ... tonight" is actually "So come away with me tonight". Everything else is dead on though
Adeline.Hearts.You Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 yes XD you didn't mentioned the other song ""oh girl" XD I love oh girl!!! Is it mabey a bit sad that from what i've heard of olivia i can alreayd sing along
manilla Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 ''olivia'' is a great song, i'm singing it all the time and i just love it but personally i must say that ''drama queen'' a bit better.. can anyone help me to find some videos so i could listen to ''oh girl'' and ''wonderful''?
Katarina. Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I love Cigarettes and Valentines so much, can't stop listening to it and singing along. Same with the other song. I keep singing "Olivia, Olivia, I'll give you my best.."
Bastard of 1967 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Haha maybe something like that? Thanks for that! Now that we can get into the lyrics a bit.....it definitely has the feel of a Ramones song coupled with old-school (Kerplunk!-era) Green Day, but thematically there's something pleasantly and energentically optimistic about it, as if it were cut out of the same mold that Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run" was. Likin' this one MUCHLY. This week I'll try equalizing the f*ck out of the MP3 rip that's already been uploaded and see if I can get something more iPod-quality out of it. First rule of thumb with this kind of thing, tho, is that you can't equalize what's not already there....but I'll give it my best shot and will post a link here if it doesn't come out sounding like shit.

Tubbie Head Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I found a video of the first part of Olivia!! Hope it wasn't already posted =) I really really like this song
LetItBeHappy Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 No one knows yet but I'm assuming it's either at the end of this year or the beginning of next year. Maybe they want to put something from the South American concerts too. yes, please that would totally compensate this last 12 years! I'm sure that Wonderful is a totally different song. It was written immediately after Obama won the election and is the song Butch Vig really liked and wanted Billie to put on 21st CB but Billie wouldn't because it didn't fit. I think Olivia is another song written possibly for 21st CB that again was never used on the album. My guess is that Wonderful, Olivia & Drama Queen were connected is it bad that I can't remember the melody of C&V when I'm awake, but I dreamt with the song anyways?! xD I found a video of the first part of Olivia!! Hope it wasn't already posted =) I really really like this song I love you
Hermione Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I found a video of the first part of Olivia!! Hope it wasn't already posted =) I really really like this song Fantastic . Thanks! Still loving both these songs. I'd so love to hear studio versions :eyebrow: , along with Drama Queen and the others. Can't they sort us out with some b-sides or something?
st.idiot Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 i'm so oooooooo sooo sososo excited for this!!!
Fuzz Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I've pieced together the two parts of Olivia. Mp3 download here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I25D550V You can obviously hear the split, since the quality of the two videos were so different, not much I could do. I figured some would enjoy it though.
Marlon_GD Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Full lyrics, thanks to the new video! Olivia Olivia it's raining outside the city is drenched there's a moon out tonight there's a break in the clouds just under the stars we wanna go on and watch from afar we couldn't care when and stepped in the mud It makes no sense but you misunderstood The city is in ruins, but there's a flower in the crack of the streets Olivia, Olivia, I'll give you my best safe in my arms, I'll lay you to rest you can borrow my coat, you wear the dress Olivia, Olivia, come follow me home
SOMERTEN Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I really wish they would do another live dvd (Wembley would be great, and maybe some behind the scenes footage of the tour). Other bands (crap like Muse) seem to be constantly on tv with live footage of their gigs and it annoys me that the masses have no idea how fantastic Green Day are live. There hasn't been enough professional footage of this tour captured for posterity, and to show the world they are the best live band out there. I know people (real concert animals) who saw Green Day for the first time on this tour and were taken aback, listing it among the top 5 concerts ever. I hate when bands do festivals they limit or don't allow live footage, it's so annoying. All the rubbish bands seem to get tons of air-time because of it.
