If I look beyond the music I love that they are passionate about what they love, they have stood by each other throughout the years and maintained awesome friendships, they have values that they stand behind and they speak their minds and tell it how they see it. I would say that makes them worthwhile human beings and good role models/parents.

Oh god.

Well. They are one of the biggest bands in the world, yet I feel like they're my best friends.

They make everyone feel so special. They make me feel happy. It's completely magical.

They make music that makes me FEEL something. Shit. I love everything about them.

Does anybody else love Billie's nose? I know that sounds strange.

EVERYTHING! I mean, they're famous and all but what I love the most about Green Day is that they don't play music just for fame, money and yeah, they do it because it's their passion and they're dedicated to their fans. That's what I really admire about them.

I love how you can be completely stressed out, worried about a thousand things and surrounded by complete chaos, and then a Green Day song will come on. And you can just abandon reality for a few minutes and relax. Your mind can slow to a stop and you just live in the moment, and when that moment is over you aren't being bombarded by thoughts anymore and things seem that much clearer. On the other hand Green Day can make you feel like you could take on the world, that nothing is impossible. One of the things I admire the most about Green Day is that Billie's lyrics can make you feel that it's perfectly fine to be different than other people, hell, that's how you want to be.

There's a million other reasons why I love Green Day, but I don't think I could write all of them in one night, so I'm not even going to try.

I love the way Billie writes the lyrics, they are brilliant and they speak to people.

The music is just fantastic. Billie, Mike and Tre are so passionate about it and they completely changed my life.

They are great people and have an awesome personality, I think you can have a lot of fun with them, but also discuss serious things. And their concerts are just epic. They really care about their fans not like most of the famous people.

Everytime I listen to their songs I feel like I'm in another world. A better world. With Mike, Tre and Billie by my side.

I fucking love this band

Thanks :)

I also love that, through Green Day, I've discovered so many bands that I never would have found by myself and I love that the three of them still act like fanboys when their favourite bands are brought up

This!

My special thanks goes out to BJ... If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have discovered The Replacements and their awesomeness.

What I like most is probably the way the songs make me feel and the mood they so easily put me in. I can honestly say no other band has done that, especially not for every song they write.

Of course there is so much more to love about Green Day, but I think that is my biggest reason :)

An opinions thread about Green Day on GDC that isn't filled to teh brim with hat0rz ...? UNHEARD OF! O_O

In all srsness, I've just been reading loads of people's replies, and I'm actually tearing up a bit because you all just seem to get it, you all just seem to have already summed up everything I've always loved about the band as a whole.

Their lyrics.

Their respective musical abilties.

Their stage presense.

The kind way they treat each and every one of their fans. ((The guy who supposedly got 'told off' by Tré here on GDC can get the fuck out, as far as I'm concerned. If Tré told you to fuck off, then you've done something wrong. Sorry, dude, but I ain't buying your tale of innocence.))

Their attitude at all the right times.

Their lack of attitude at all the right rimes.

The way they express themselves.

Their playful and lighthearted sense of humour.

Their honesty.

Their respective personal fashion senses. ((Or lack thereof.))

And there's no way I'm not mentioning this, as prohibited as it might be to speak of --- Their Goddamn good looks.

Or, in a nutshell, OMFG EVERYTHING!

Well what I sent to Kerrang for the 21st Century Icon thing, pretty much sums it up.

I vote Green Day, without any hesitation as my number one icon of the 21st Century.

Green Day has a passion for music that is unbelievable, and the fact that it still remains 20 or so years strong is something that cant be said for many bands. Billie Joe's songwriting abilities combined with an overall band attitude of 'we have put every last bit of energy we have into this' have worked to create 8 studio albums that are each as amazing as each other in their own ways. Thats not to mention Shenanigans and International Superhits. I may be bias, in that I love this style of music, but a certain a level of respect for this band is needed, even from those who dislike their style. The love they have for what they do, the determination, the passion, it's something to be admired.

Another reason I fell in love with Green Day, was the personality of the members. Once again it is probably subjective, but Billie, Mike and Tre are the 3 funniest people I know, or know of. It was tre's 'Like a Rat does cheese' and their 'top 5 gardening tips' that I first watched on youtube. It was clip after clip, and a veryy stretched broadband limit from there on. However, underneath the comic act there are caring and incredibly intelligent personalities, and that combination is what I absolutely love about them.

Last but absolutely not least, Green Day live. From the very starting moment to the last chord they get every single fan out there having the best time of their life. I was fortunate enough to see them on the 8th of December and it was like a dream. There is such a connection with the audience, and it remains until the very end. I have to say it was the funnest most incredible night of my life.

I know I was supposed to nominate 3, but as you can see I can easily fill up that space with just one. Hope you didnt get deterred by the length and had the time to read about such an influential band to me.

I love, that after listening to Green Day's songs hundreds of times over the past six years, that I'm still incredibly amazed at the music they've created.

I'll have moments where I'm listening to them and there's one line in a song that makes me think, "holy shit. these guys are fucking geniuses."

I love the fact that Green Day still have that effect on me after all this time.

I love the way Billie Joe sang the "Dried up and bulging out my skull" line during Brain Stew on the arena tour. Yum.

 well as noses go, I suppose it's a nice one, I dunno, :P

I love how they come out at 8 for their shows and play for 2 and half to three hours, where's most bands/artists come out at nine and have shorter sets.

I recently noticed that I reeally love their changes throughout the past years... that we all could see how they matured...I mean... I know I'm not that old ... but I think it's very interesting to see how they were these "brats" just jamming around and making really good music ( they do it now, too, of course^^) and now.. how they are an inspiration to other musicians and actually teaching others..

like I know someone who's a drummer and he really looks up to Tré beacuse he's just so awesome and he's always analyzing the his technique which is amazing. so my brother, we went to the concert and he was like "I learned so much about some tricks by watching him live" ...

I think this is is soooo great about them..that they actually become those GREAT TEACHERS and rolemodels ( also when it comes to friendship and family stuff)

and there are sooooo maaaany more reasons why I love Green Day...I probably could write all day about their awesomeness :blush:

Does anybody else love Billie's nose? I know that sounds strange.

I think he's got a pretty nose ;) well... I love his thighs...so I'm strange, too

They're one of the few American band that does loooadds for England which is nice when so many bands don't :)

Tbh, they're general interaction with fan's is pretty damn good, we get loads of stuff.

Another thing is when they donated £100,000 to help Haiti - not that I didn't have masses of respect for them and their work with NRDC and stuff before, but that sealed the deal for me.

Oh, and their music's not bad either ;)

They make me happy.

Especially when I put one of their songs on after not having listened to them for a while.

I met the best people in the world through them. They make my life feel more complete. And they taught me how to live.

That's just two of a few hundred reasons why I love this band more than most things in my life.

I had to find somewhere to share this so I came to this thread. I love that Green Day is able to help people who aren't even major fans. I showed that Advocate interview with Billie Joe from 1995, where he talks about being bisexual, to one of my online friends quite a long time ago.

Well today she randomly came on MSN and asked if I wanted to know something, and then told me she was bisexual and had never told anyone before. I mean, I was pleased enough that she felt close enough to me to have me be the first to know. But then she told me that it had a lot to do with the interview with Billie Joe that I linked to her. She said it made her see everything in perspective and that it inspired her to tell someone. She said if she hadn't read it she doesn't know if she would have accepted the fact that she was bisexual. That made me even happier. She likes Green Day but she's not a huge fan, more of a casual listener. I just thought it was awesome that something Billie said helped her out, when she's not even a big fan. That interview made me love and respect him more than I already did (I have it in my favourites and read it a lot), and I'm so glad it was able to help someone else. I thought it was really nice.

Obviously i love them for their music, Billie Joe's lyrics which amaze me, and their live shows, putting so much energy in to every one. Green Day are just the perfect band to love for life.
