DecanoLP Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Lyrics and live shows. They're the best live band on this planet at the moment hands down!
Tripe Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Such a great idea for a thread, Angeline. I love so many things about this band. First has to be the music and the lyrics. I love how I can fall in love with a song, and then later on, listen to it again, and it means something completely different. It seems like the songs are always reinventing themselves to me. I love how their music appeals to so many different people despite age, sex, race, blah, blah, blah. There are no boundaries - we all speak 'Green Day.' I love their live performances - I love the interaction with the crowd, the fact that they are always trying to make 'your' concert special and different, their (seemingly!) endless energy, the spontaneity of Billie Joe just doing whatever he feels like doing, stopping the band, making sure kids in the pit are ok, changing his shoes, etc. I love how they have so much fun while they are doing all of that - at times it's like I'm watching a bunch of friends 'play', joke, fool around, and I love that it's so natural. Last week at PNC, my brother in law turned to me and said, 'Wow, that drummer kicks ass!' I love when people tell me things I already know about Green Day. (and I love and appreciate Tre's kickassedness!) I love that their side projects are so different and so fun in their own ways. I love when they surprised us with the whole FHT thing. I have to agree with the BJ hair comment, Angeline - and I love that he changes it so spontaneously and so drastically. Ok, and I'll admit, I LOVE the blonde, lol. I will always love them for having the best fans in the world, and for helping me make some of the best friendships I have ever had because of them. It's so beautiful when you meet someone who 'gets it'. I've had some of the best times of my life with all of you! I'm sure there's more...lol. I'm pretty much stealing everything you wrote, Cheryl, because I agree with all of it. I love how they seem to be nice people, honest people, good people. It would suck mightily if I fell in love with the music and the band members were assholes. Staying together as a band, staying together as friends - that's hugely admirable to me. Nice thread!
st.idiot Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 EVERYTHING!!! i love the hair, the clothes, the music, the interviews, the video game. theyre just amazing at life.
gdpony Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 so many things.... 1. their music 2. Billie's lyrics 3. how down to earth they seem to be 4. How they give their everything when they're on stage 5. How they dont care what people think about them. 6. How they're not afraid to do something different. that and so much more things that dont come to my mind right now
CoreyGregory Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Their music...OBVIOUSLY Their fan / band participation at their live show
Mar Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I love just how much effort they give at shows. They could just go through playing the songs and introduce them like some bands, but they don't. They bring up people, bring out a t shirt launcher, water gun, and toilet paper dispenser. They stop in the middle of songs to make sure someone in the pit is okay, and to make people fighting shake hands and make up. I just love how much they put into their shows, and how much they care about the fans. For a lot of people, it isn't just 'a show'. It's one of the best days of their life. And it's not just crowd interaction, it's how much they put into their music. Sure, they may take years to come out with a new album, but it's because they out their heart and soul into it, trying a different style and not going backwards in term of style. They could take the easy way out and make another album similar to an older one, but they don't. I respect that. They challenge themselves to do something different. You said it so well! I love that they're so good live, that one can become addicted to them. They're just that captivating. I love how while each of their albums have a "Green Day sound," they also have a distinct identity. I love that they were able to turn things around for their careers (and, their personal lives, it sounds like) before American Idiot, that's an impressive feat (not imploding on themselves).
blitzkriegdeb Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 After seeing them live for the first time on Monday, I'm about to get more sappy then a maple tree, so excuse me. What do I love about Green Day? The fact that they make great music, the fact that they are unbelivable live, and the fact that they rely on their fans as much as we rely on them? Yeah, totally. But the biggest thing for me, is the emotional connection. Sometimes I sit back and wonder how Billie knows to word everything so perfectly. During the concert, when they kicked into Boulevard of Broken Dreams, I teared up. That song has so much meaning to me, I can hardly word it. It was the first Green Day song I heard, and to this day I can hardly get through the song without tearing up a little bit. Everytime I listen to it, it brings me back to when I first heard it. The feeling of being understood, well quite frankly, you can't describe So what do I love? I love Billie's lyrics. I love Mike's basslines. I love Tre's drumbeats. I love their music. I love their looks. I love their live shows. I love the Jasons. I love Jeff. I love the variety in their music. I love feeling understood.
*withoutadoubt* Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I love feeling understood. I love this, too.
Metanoia Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 yeah me too being understood and just that they're thankful to their fans....at least i think so.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 That whenever I listen to an album, or just a couple of songs of theirs in a row, I discover something new, be it a real cool sounding bass thingy that never occurred to me before, or a lyric I hadn't quite noticed yet. The list of great little things in their music, especially lyrics, is just endless.
*withoutadoubt* Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I love the acapella/Rockband tracks. There are things I've heard that I never knew were there. I was listening to Homecoming today, and I never knew there was a background track saying, 'I don't wanna be an American Idiot' during Rock and Roll GF. I thought it was just a musical thing, lol.
Tubbie Head Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 I lovve reading this thread, it's so full of love... but yeah.. OMFG EVERYTHING! And that includes: Billie Joe's Lyrics 'course; The (variate) music they make; them as individuals, their friendship, their LOVE for this band; their effort in shows, how they have as much fun in concerts as the fans, the crowd/band interaction; the happiness and inspiration they gave me for life. My life would suck without them... I might have forgotten something, but it's really everything. That whenever I listen to an album, or just a couple of songs of theirs in a row, I discover something new, be it a real cool sounding bass thingy that never occurred to me before, or a lyric I hadn't quite noticed yet. The list of great little things in their music, especially lyrics, is just endless. I also keep finding something new every time I listen to their songs. I really do enjoy reading this thread so much. Everything everyone is saying, I keep nodding my head agreeing. Makes me smile. exactly.
unabrasiveadhesive Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I love how they have epic setlists. Their shows are worth the money. I also love that they seem to care about their fans unlike some people that just ignores them, at least they make an effort to greet as many as they can.
SuzieCreamCheese Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 1. They make me sing 2. They make me laugh 3. They make me dance 4. After hearing some of the american idiot musical - and it's great - the guy can sing alot better than I can but I learned how much I love Billie's voice 5. They are family oriented 6. They make me think 7. They're incredible live - they never ever disappoint 8. Billie's so sexy and perfectly effeminate 9. They're not celebrities - in People, and Us and all thoes magazines all the time 10. The way they did "A Quick One" really made me feel like Billie Joe was a friend I grew up with and listened to him play that song after seeing The Who do it in The Kids are Alright
Maura99 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I agree with almost everything that's already been said here So I'm just going to mention one specific thing: the way Billie shakes his head while playing Welcome To Paradise.
xgirlcalledkillx Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Their lyrics are pretty much number one for me. They can be and are, literally life changing! I also love how they care so much about their fans and they always interact with the crowd. They are amazing overall though!!!
Punk-tastic32 Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 The "We're awseome, but whatever..." and "I don't give a rat's-ass about what you think of me" attitude!
Leisha-LUNA Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 There are so many things. But for now, I'll just say that I love Mike. I love the way they just keep on giving. When I'm sad, I just think about the moments when I've had them look me in the eye. When Mike looked at me and blew me a kiss. And when he gave me the vest and then just smiled - that smile said so much and it was like I actually meant something to them. I don't know. I'm rambling a bit - having a bit of an emotional moment haha. What I'm trying to say is I love the way they interact with their fans. And they are perfect.
Ally Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 that they are just everyday, down to earth guys. Y'know there is not a lot of stars that will stop and talk to in the street, a lot would just ignore you, but from stories i've heard, they will stop and have a chat in the street, and this is what i like about them, that they actually do give a rats fart about there fans. Theres many other reasons to, but that is the main one
Kayfabe Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I agree with almost everything that's already been said here So I'm just going to mention one specific thing: the way Billie shakes his head while playing Welcome To Paradise. and pretty much all the old songs Green Day - they make everything better <3
warding_off_regrets Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 When I'm at a Green Day show, it's like coming home. Here's my nation, here's my flag and here's my anthem - it's Minority. Here's where I don't have to explain, here's where everyone speaks my language - and up there on that stage, there's my fucking band, as excited and happy to see all of us as we are to see them, ready to give it one million percent and beyond. Amazingly well put I love their lyrics, their humor, their work ethic, their dedication to their fans...
Ben I Come Around Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 There is just nothing to not like, they are perfect, perfect music and perfect live. PERFECT.
