Doris The Spider Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Their music. Their "I don't care" attitude. Their humor. And lots of other things.
*withoutadoubt* Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I was wondering if someone else felt that way too -- in hindsight it was a "good" show, not a "great" one like I've come to expect from Green Day. I strongly suspect it had some to do with the band just needing to get their their sea legs under them after coming off of a month-long break of the tour. They were ON FIRE at Jiffy Lube though, and have had an awesome setlist more recently -- and from your sig block it looks like you either have or will get to see some of that soon too!! It's funny because this was one of my favorite shows. I was at the barrier with some great people, there was no pushing or shoving, and I was able to enjoy the music and everything so easily. It felt like one of those small shows, intimate and intense, but with all the pyro, lol. I guess it's all in the eye of the concertgoer.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Just the way that they can bring people together. No matter how much of an outcast you be be at school, or whatever like that. When you go and see Green Day, none of that matters, becasue its just like one big unit. People accept each other. Aw yes, that as well. I just love how when you're waiting for the show to begin, random conversations between strangers start everywhere. As if all usual social barriers are gone. And with the exception of a couple of dicks, everyone is nice as well.
*withoutadoubt* Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 by the time Holmdel ended, I could have sworn everyone in that place bonded with each other, even if no one knew each other. By the time JOS came around... the fist pumping and sing-alongs were crescendoing off the venue... And I have to agree with this, too. I love that Holmdel was so amazing, even tho I had lawn seats.
Adeline.Hearts.You Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Aw yes, that as well. Yeah totaly, i was at my first concert ever and i ended up right at the front of the pit, and it was awesome beacsue i had everone watching my back and looking out for me! i felt so welcome
Rosie May Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I love there lyrics, how they can progress so much and yet still not lose what makes them Green Day. I love that their music has grown with them and it's not just the same thing over and over. I love how they leave their egos behind as soon as they leave the stage, and I love how they really appreciate the fans and give us so much during their shows.
justcause Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Just the way that they can bring people together. No matter how much of an outcast you be be at school, or whatever like that. When you go and see Green Day, none of that matters, becasue its just like one big unit. People accept each other. Not to mention that they are one of the best bands out their, and they are brave, no affarid to speak or say what they are thinking. and i think its like comforting to know that your not the only person whos confused at whats going on in hte world. When I'm at a Green Day show, it's like coming home. Here's my nation, here's my flag and here's my anthem - it's Minority. Here's where I don't have to explain, here's where everyone speaks my language - and up there on that stage, there's my fucking band, as excited and happy to see all of us as we are to see them, ready to give it one million percent and beyond.
CoreyGregory Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Not Lately, but before AI he wrote true to himself heartfelt lyrics. I've always loved that about the first 6 albums. I liked the AI lyrics too, they were creative and gave a complex story, not heartfelt though. 21st Century Breakdowns lyrics were pretty lame though.
1039SweetChildren Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 This excerpt from Boston Globe's review of the Mansfield, MA show really just says it all: More importantly, Green Day proved itself still capable of doing what punk bands are supposed to do, which is speak for and to youth culture. “Are We the Waiting,’’ “Give Me Novacaine,’’ and “21 Guns’’ made adolescent turmoil feel like Us vs. Them, with a specific focus on the fact that there’s an Us, not just a You.
GreenDayisAmazing Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Wow like everything lol. They are amazing!!! I love how they write about what's important to them like war and politics even if other bands don't write about stuff like that. I love how they make concerts fun for everyone!!! I love Green Day songs, lyrics, sound and everything!!!
Adeline.Hearts.You Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Well said and nice first post! Cheers.. Gren Day community.. i guess that really is true around here
Moffie Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Not only their lyrics and how universally relatable they are but how the guys would stop the entire show to make sure that one kid who fell in the pit is safely picked up. It's just....

I completly agree with you. That what people dont get where i come from .. if your not down with the whole hip-hop vibe, its like they hate you. I mean they think your al l"emo" and cut yourslef, just because you listen to green day. But i'd rather take it with a pinch of salt. Becasue they are more than just a band, its almost like a lifestlye. becasue its not just normal music, it has connections on so many different levels... thats what i find hard to explain.. but you got it down right in them sentences... well said!
RockSeason Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I'd say everything... but that's kindoff plain.. so I'll try. First and all I love their music, I would never be into the band if it wasn't for the music. I love the way Billie writes music I love how funny they are I love their live shows I love how they teached me that you should be your self and not taking anyones shit I love how they care about the fans I love how they always are down to earth I could go on forever... but thet would just bore you totally right
♥PunkKitty♥ Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Their music is amazing. All their albums are awesome. They do whatever they want instead of following cries of "u arent teh punk! MAK DOOKIE CLONEZ". How hilarious they can be. How adorable Billie is. XD They're just amazing, and I'm too lazy to type every little thing. I'd be here all day.
petros Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 They're funny Their music is just awesome And they do what ever they want without care what everyone else says... What else do we need to love them?

The thing I really *love* about how Minority is written is the band isn't telling us simply that it's "OK" to march to our respective own beats, it's relishing in it, expressing pride and joy in it, and encouraging it. It's funny though, now they get up before 20,000, 30,000, even 70,000 fans (Wembley!) at a stop and tell all of us who are there, united, to see our common favorite band, how great it is to not have to go with the crowd. Unless we all reallyreally want to, I suppose!

Unless we all reallyreally want to, I suppose! Being at a Green Day show, I'm conscious of how every person there has their own specific, particular reason for coming. You go in the pit and you lose it in the bliss of the music, the communality, but at the heart of it, there's still the reason why you came. No-one can tell you, and everyone who knows, knows.
The Snark Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I love how they aren't afraid to be themselves, try new things musically with all their albums and side projects, and branch out into unfamiliar territory (ie the musical). How they can be both immature and yet get so deep and thought-provoking. I love how they look out for their fans in the pit and put on amazing 3 hour shows and put every other concert you've ever been to or will ever attend to shame. How their lyrics have deeper meanings than most non-fans expect and how reading those lyrics never fail to give me chills. Most of all, I love that I have listened to them for more than half of my life, and they are still my favorite. No other band will ever come close to that.
Pedestrian9394 Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Well, without getting super deep, I think it's their honesty that's so awesome to me. And that goes for any band that I like. I have a good sense for when I'm being bullshitted by music, and I've never felt that way about Green Day.
Schlappy Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 oh there are so many to choose from but ill have to say i love their modest attitudes. not that i know them personally but they always seem to have time for fans. they dont take the success for granted and are as happy to perform for you as you are to see them.

This is so true. When I saw them in Atlanta on the 9th, Billie Joe said, "It is my honor, and my privilege, and my pleasure to give you the best fucking show you've ever seen." and "Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you, for spending your hard earned fucking money to come out and see us tonight." Stuff like that....I don't know if they understand how incredibly amazing that is. I couldn't get over it. I have the concert on my iPod, and I love listening to the way he talked to us. It helps me re-live the whole experience.
Sheehan Rysa Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 The lyrics. They somehow just pierce through my soul. And you can actually feel the emotion ! Its freakin magical.
Isabel Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I think if I typed out every little detail then I'd have a list as long as my arm.
