711_Disciple Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Just got my smaller, 8.5" by 8.5" paperback version of the book in the mail today! I have to say, I was kind of fearful of the worst with this one - the 12" by 12" book was amazing quality and HUGE, perfectly readable, so I was worried that a smaller version wouldn't translate. Thankfully, it did. I just looked through all of the letters and all of them are readable, even if the type is a bit smaller on some than I would like. I'll admit to that part right now. The vast majority turned out pretty proportional, but I hope some authors won't feel that we were giving them less effort because the type came out smaller in the smaller version: rest assured, the version Billie was given was really, really big, and each letter was in large type because of it. Anyway, I'm pretty happy with the way the version I got in the mail today turned out, and I'm hoping you all would be as well. With that in mind, the list of "authors" are as follows: - Sara K - Elle H - Anonymous ("Just another fan") - Vanessa V - Jonny - Anke - Tanya - Gianna - Geoffrey O - Mary C - Decca - Analise - Izza H - Roxanne - Barbara K - Caitlin - Chelsea - Jenne - Presley - Jillian - Anonymous - Liz - Samantha - Sarah - Alice - Mollie B - Diana - Mavra C - Marie - Leisha - Francisco C - Maria - Jairo Alonso - Laura C - Consuelo - Gus B - Jimi M - Raissa - Christina - Eilise - Lorraine P - Claire T - Morgan - Mary S. With Photos From: - Steph - Elle H -Filip -Vanessa V -Sarah -Leisha -Jairo Alonso With Artwork From: - Laura -Allison -Nikki -Mary S ---------- NOTE: I think this also needs to be said. Due to the nature of the project, and its intended recipient, some letters did need to be edited for grammar, appropriateness (hopefully that goes without explanation...), and originality. When I say that, what I mean is that we preserved the author's story, voice, and word choice (basically everything, while sometimes fixing articles/punctuation/etc.) while we sometimes had to cut for space. That said, in those cases we had to choose the portion (often the majority of the letter) that really emphasized the main point of what the author was trying to convey. This was not an attempt to stop anyone from reading certain parts of it, but rather our attempt to be economical with our space and the pages we were allotted. I'm hoping that everyone understands that we would never do anything to distort what the letter said or its intent, etc., but it may not appear exactly as it was sent in via e-mail, etc. Call it artistic license, call it damage control, call it our attempt to simply save space and get as many letters in as we could. It's a little bit of all of those. Either way, I think this had to be made clear before Laura and I offered this to anyone. I know this could get me some "flames", etc, but I hope you'll all understand on a mature level why we did what we did and that, because we were so proud of the project and everyone who participated, we would never do anything to jeopardize the integrity of that. :Deep breath: with that said, if any of you have concerns (or are just curious) you can view a complete "preview" version of the book here: http://www.mixbook.com/photo-books/interests/letters-to-green-day-5009041 I believe if you play around with the display buttons on the bottom and hit "super size" you have a decent ability to read the letters, etc. If not, play around with the zoom on your browser, but it works for me on Google Chrome just fine. I'd feel better about offering it for purchase if you all had the chance to look through it first, so...there you go. Enjoy. And, once again, thanks so much for all of your help. As much of a pain as it was to create, it was a joy to do, and even moreso to hand it off to Billie Joe. I hope you're even a third as happy as Laura and I am in having it completed.

Emilie Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I really love the book, Morgan! I think you guys did an awesome job with it. Honestly. Yes, absolutely. The book is just amazing
711_Disciple Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 Awww thanks guys That means a lot. Obviously the goal wasn't just to make something that Billie would like, but that you guys could all like/relate to (or something, hah).
MCC Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I just read the book and I'm in tears. It is such a powerful and beautiful way to express our love and gratitude to Green Day. I'm so happy my letter was included on the second page. The book is awesome and defintely count me down as wanting one. I do have a suggestion though. Is there enough material to make like a second volume? I just feel horrible for those who poured their hearts into their letters and them then not being used. If money was a concern, I'd be more than happy to pitch in extra in order for another book to be made.
whatsername343 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 It's so freaking beautiful you did a great job I'm just a little bummed ou that mine is missing the part where I met Billie, cause it was kinda the most important one but it's still fucking great =)
solongfromthestars Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 It looks great! Very cool, I bet Billie loved it
Eighty. Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Me neither Me neither, I thought they told me they got my letter and I was in this thing.. so i got exited for nothing xD
Emilie Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Me neither, I thought they told me they got my letter and I was in this thing.. so i got exited for nothing xD I think at the beginning they were going to try and fit everyone in, but in the end there were too many letters for the book. Only room for 45, I think. Otherwise it would have been really expensive. But the letters that made it were really moving. I don't really mind that mine wasn't in there. And if I ever get to meet Billie, maybe I could slip mine into his pocket...
Sarabeth Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Oh my god. I just read the book and I have no words to describe how I feel. I broke down in tears reading about the one who lost their drummer and bass player withing 2 weeks of eachother, and I kept crying through the rest of it. Its amazing what Green Day can get us through. They really do have a huge impact on the world. Just amazing... *-*
711_Disciple Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 So...it's been a while. But basically, inspired by the tenacity of another Green Day fan to make a scrapbook celebrating the musical, I've decided that I should investigate how to open this up for you guys to hold in your hands, if you wanted. Turns out that's pretty easy. First, go here: http://www.mixbook.com/photo-books/interests/letters-to-green-day-5009041 Second, hit "order". Third, register (I know, I know, sorry). Fourth, pick from the different versions of the book. You should know, the 12x12 hardcover is HUGE, and the 8x8 softcover is a lot cheaper but looks fine. That's the copy I ordered for myself . Fifth, at checkout, enter the discount code g9m8 . That should shave off some of the cost. Ah, the wonders of Google! *Also, just in case you were wondering, Laura and I aren't making any money off of this. I just thought that I really dropped the ball in not working to get this to you guys sooner, and hopefully there's still some interest out there. This turned out so well and I"m still so, so proud of it.
Pedestrian9394 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Aww, mine wasn't in there. And I was the first to submit one! xD Oh well. It looks awesome.
