Honestly? You should go see the musical if you can and form your opinions with that. Don't let others sway you.

Yeah, I wish I could, but I can't, unfortunately. Unless it comes to Toronto, that is, which is highly unlikely.

I mean, the cast is really great and talented, but for some reason I still can't picture American Idiot on Broadway. It just doesn't quite work in my mind. But Green Day has a way of surprising everyone (in a good way) and they've never let me down yet. Hopefully one day I'll be able to see the fruits of their labor

As far as deciding whether to see it, it's not really whether it "sucks" or not, it's about whether you think you personally would enjoy it.

If it was on near me I wouldn't go and see it. That's not because I have some moral objection to it or I don't have an open mind. It's because I know I'm not into musicals, and none of the music or clips from this musical that I've seen or heard have appealed to me. You don't have to go and see something to decide whether you like it. If you've heard all the music from it, read about it, and seen clips, you can make some degree of judgement!

I feel quite the opposite about musicals. There have been many where I have fallen in love with the music before ever seeing the actual musical. Then seeing it the experience wsa only enhanced by the music I already loved.

Now we all agree we love AI the music. So AI the musical was that must better, for me, because of the music I adore.

At least that was my experience when I saw AI.

Well I'd just like to say that before I saw the musical, I had heard a few of the cast recordings and I didn't like them at all. I also am not a huge fan of musicals. Yet, I still saw the musical, and I still absolutely loved it. Also, clips of the musical really don't do it any justice in my opinion. After I saw it live, I watched a recording of it from Berkley, and it really was not even that good in the recording. When you're there, you just have this really great atmosphere and energy that you don't get through a clip/recording. Also, the songs sound much better and powerful when performed live. I'm not saying that you can't make a judgment from hearing the recordings or watching clips, but I think that your initial thoughts about the musical based on those things may not be very accurate.

Hopefully that's how it is for as many people as possible, I'm happy for anyone who's got enjoyment out of the musical. But I just think (as with all things) musicals aren't to everyone's taste, and this musical isn't to everyone's taste. I couldn't afford to go and see something when everything I've seen/heard about it isn't to my taste, to be honest . Everyone has to judge these things in advance to an extent even if only to decide whether it's worth their money.

Yeah I understand they invite them but I'm so upset that I can't watch Green Day play on Monday Night Football. The cast ruins it for me and I wish Green Day would just be Green Day and use this great opertunity to promote themselves and their album. Not the musical. The musical isn't Green Day. They are related but the musical isn't "Green Day"

Oh, but you see... you can see Green Day be Green Day while they're on tour. The cast isn't performing their songs with them there.

Green Day and the cast have a good bond. They feed off each other, and pick things up from one another. I enjoy seeing the two perform together, and perform seperately. For the most part, they perform seperately. But why shouldn't they get to have some fun, since they're performing THE SAME SONGS, and perform them with each other every now and then?

And to the people who say they're annoying:

Don't watch, then. Problem solved.

Although I love to see just Green Day perform I also loving seeing the cast perfrom with Green Day too. I wouldn't like if the cast went on Green Day's tour with them though. I really think they did an amazing job on the album not as amazing as Green Day's, but pretty damn good!!!

The whole musical and the AI cast really creeps me out. Its really embarrasing for me as ive been defending them as punks for years and now i see those creepy drama kids girating around in ridiculous "punk" costumes. yuck.. disgusting stuff. I try to ignore them. I love Green Day and I love the American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown albums (except LOTAG). Cant wait for The Shoreline September 4th!!!!!

Everything I would have said has already been said... So I'll just multiquote it:

Don't you get it? This is Green Day. This is who they've become and if you don't like it, that's your problem. Don't blame it on the cast, or Michael Mayer, or anyone else for that matter. They're not in their twenties anymore, the can't write songs about smoking pot and masturbation for the rest of the career and the time for writing songs similar to that of American Idiot is over. The world has change a lot since 2004 so it makes sense for the subject matter of the band's songs to change also.

This ^^^^^^

huh... when i read the title i though this would be a respectful classy place for us too discuss the pros and cons of the American Idiot cast accompanying Green Day in their performances, but then i read the opening paragraph and i guess not =/

Most definitely This ^^^^^

if you don't like it, WHO IS FORCING YOU TO GO TO THIS MUSICAL THEN?

Totally This ^

Two: If it wasn't for the musical, Green Day would not have performed on the Tonys. Just think about that when you're complaining about the cast performing with the band.

Obviously This ^

I'm running out of descriptive words This ^

Incredibly This ^

Aaaaaaaaand this.

These are MY opinions... HONESTLY.... TO EACH THEIR OWN SRSLY GUYS.

Nuff said.
