exactly how I feel cuz I just want to watch a fucking Green Day show without the cast performing over them.

As others have said, if you want to see Green Day perform live, go to one of their concerts. That's 200 times better than watching a performance of LOTAG on TV.

well they aren't coming to Pittsburgh this year so all I get is live videos and tv performances. I saw them last year when they came.

No bands ever even come to my state, dude. You make due, you travel if you really want to see them. If you don't want to/aren't able to travel to see them, I understand, but don't bitch about the performances you do get. Hell, you should be grateful that they're performing at all.

We got to realize that the AI musical is very important to Green Day and they want to be there performing with them. I don't think it's a bad thing, I love hearing them perform, you're just too busy ranting about Green Day "selling out" that you're not seeing that these are a talented group of people. I have the AI cast album and I love every second of it, don't judge talent based on whether or not Green Day is getting publicity. Trust me they're getting a lot of it!

I'm kind of iffy on this one. I saw the play and loved it. These are some freaking talented people. And I thought it was really cool that the cast played at the Grammy's because no one had really heard of AI musical and it really brought it to public attention. However, it's kind of annoying that they're throwing so much into promoting the musical and bringing the cast along to performances when 21st CB barely got anny attention. It's like they completely skipped the media circuit for the album because they knew they wanted to save the TV spots for the musical. I dunno, I get more stoked on seeing Green Day than the cast. The cast is a bit out of context when they only sing one song.

I can agree to disagree and my opinion is that Michael fucking Mayer's version of Green Day is taking top priority over real Green Day music. And that is wrong. Honestly though why Would you rather see the cast perform Michael Mayers music over Green Day's playing instead of Green Day playing Green Day music?

True true but Green Day DOES have a good say in the music that the AI cast does, and they do perform with them on TV, so you ARE still seeing 'real' Green Day performances, just with backup vocalists & some extra leads. Like in 21 Guns when Billie sings the second verse, and the band is still playing the music.

I much rather just see Green Day perform.

this. but i like the musical.

Musicals aren't my cup of tea. This being a Green Day musical I wanted to like it and I tried to, but I just don't enjoy any of it. I'm really happy for the band because they're obviously very proud of it, but that's the extent of my interest in it.

To be honest as soon as I read the word "musical" in a piece of Green Day news my interest switches off. So of course I'd rather see Green Day perform on their own for once. But....it's up to them. They can do what they want and I can take it or leave it.

It does sadden me that the musical seems to have completely overshadowed 21st CB though. They made an amazing album and they deserved for it to make a much bigger impact than it has. I suppose this is just another step in that direction.....but again that's their choice isn't it, and they seem pretty happy with it that way. Meh.

Hahaha! this is just like Marmite. You even love the musical or you really hate it.

I just get excited when Green Day is on tv...cast or no cast.

I dont really mind them, sure they're annoying at times, but I dont really care too much if they're there or not

I'll still enjoy watching Green Day perform but the musical bits will make me cringe. Can't help it . Just that whole cheesy, melodramatic, musical style of singing....I can't stand it.

i agreeeeeeeeee

let the musical stay on broadway god dammit lol!

Alright this is my first time starting a topic on this site so here is goes. Is anyone else pissed that the AI cast is always tagging along and performing with Green Day on any event that might get them some half decent publicity for the song they are promoting. This thing with the Jets home opener is fucking bullshit. I refuse to watch. I am fucking sick and motherfucking tired of that cast coming in and ruining televised Green Day concerts. They do a good job of singing but that belongs in the fucking play not every damn appearance Green Day makes on a tv show. This play thing is ruining Green Day and I have never dared to say this because this has always been a lie until now. We as Green Day fans need to realize the possibility that Green Day has sold out. It kills me to write something like this against them, but I'm calling it as it is. Green Day had a great chance to perform on Monday night football. Everyone watches it. But instead of embracing this opertunity they decide to piss on it and to make sure that we don't see an awesome Green Day performance, and to see to it that we get a bunch of shit and watch other fucking people sing for the band that we've loved and cherished for so long.

Oh God, I'm totally agree with you! And is exactly what I thought when I knew this. I think that the 'cast' wants to become famous through Green Day, and I HATE THAT. I accept that the musical can be great (i never saw it, so i can't say much about it) but I'm seriously sick of this fucking people. They have talent, OK, THEN THEY SHOULD STAY PLAYING THE MUSICAL IN THE FUCKING THEATRE AND STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM GREEN DAY! C'mon, everytime they're going to appear somewhere, it has to be with those assholes!: tv shows, awards, now the cast is going to make a 'meet&greet', God dammit!! Enough is enough!!! I never liked the idea AND the people inside of the musical anyway, I feel that the "masterpiece" AMERICAN IDIOT has been destroyed and worn-out. Green Day don't need these people to make a great performance... but I just don't know what the hell goes through their minds anymore... and it's killing me!

I don't have anything against the cast. I havent seen them live so i am not making any final judgements. But them performing at the Jets Opening Game? eh i kind of agree. there's a better time and place for that

not the cast

Okay, I hope that you know that for the Tonys... that was technically the musical inviting Green Day, for all extensive purposes. You can't have it both ways! And honestly, they haven't performed that many times with them! Were they on tour with GD? Nope. Were they on Fallon with GD? Nope. And the cast have performed solo... lots of times! Letterman, Good Morning America, Kelly & Regis, Bryant Park... no Green Day anywhere. So, it's not like they won't/can't promote themselves.

And...

I'm sorry but seriously? The hatred for the cast is ridiculous. While there may be a handful of people who go to "American Idiot" because it's Green Day, there are many, many more who go for the cast; some of whom were 'famous' (if you will) *before* the musical came out.

Looking at some of the responses in this thread... it makes me wonder if some of you are jealous of the cast. You know to be friends with Billie, Mike, Tre, etc. To be able to hang out with them. To collaborate with them. If that's the case, then that's an entirely different problem all together.

The cast is pretty cool. And believe it or not, a lot of people out there in theater land DO CARE about the cast and NOT ABOUT Green Day. Go figure!

And Green Day cares about them. Not sure if they really need us to care about them or not.

I am really sorry to laugh at this, but I'm going to have to laugh at it.

It's KILLING YOU? Are you serious? Get a grip, people, as Plaid Ducky said, some of these cast members were famous before Green Day came along. You really think that they are trying to ride Green Day's coattails? And so what IF they were? It's an awesome opportunity that they all have in this show, and you ride your surf board to glory as much as you can.

AND YOU THINK THAT GREEN DAY DOESN'T WANT THEM TO BE WITH THEM TO PROMOTE THE SHOW THAT THEY LOVE?????

Lord, people, sometimes I think everyone around here is like five. It doesn't matter IF YOU LIKED the idea or not... the IDEA is out there and done and frankly, there is nothing anyone can do about it.

Sheesh, finally Green Day sees their dream of this come true, by making it what they wanted it to be in the first place, and this is the reaction that they get from FANS? It's fine that you don't like it, but it's KILLING YOU is so over the top that it borders beyond the ridiculous.

I think that I left clear that I'm very serious with what I said.

And you know what? It's okay what you think, whatever, but leave me alone with my own opinion.

I can't be jealous of people that I don't even know and I don't care about, but I don't like them at all, so I don't see the problem expressing that

You're allowed to express your opinion, but as it is so irrational, don't expect people to leave you alone.

If Billie, Mike or Tre didn't love the musical and the cast so much, why would they go see it as often as possible? This is part of them. This is their music and their vision. They are very excited, and should be, to include the cast that plays THEIR MUSIC with join them in song. I think it's a honor both ways.

I'd like to see Green Day doing more tv performances on their own, but it's not like the cast is completely taking them over, they've only done a couple of performances together (which I all liked very much). And while I think I would have preferred it if they did the half time thing on their own (Green Day, that is), it's also cool they're doing it with the cast. I'm happy either way. Green Day's also doing a big ass tour, so it's not like we never see them on their own again

Chill.

everything I otherwise would have wanted to reply to that has already been said, but I just want to add you need to chill out.

I honestly don't mind them performing together. I don't follow everything they do. If I want to see Green Day perform I'll look on youtube or go to an actual show.

I think there's a line in Road to Acceptance regarding blind hatred that you'd do well to listen to. Even if you are correct that the only reason those actors even auditioned was to become famous through Green Day...Green Day are letting it happen. Realize that this is one of their babies. They want the play to get exposure, and what better way to do that then through half-time of the first Monday Night Football game of the season?

Also, it's good to keep perspective. We all follow Green Day pretty closely, so we're hyper sensitive to what they do and how they do it. Most of the people watching that half-time show are not aware Green Day have a musical on Broadway. Some of those people might be prompted to investigate it a little further and maybe even buy tickets. That is what the band wants. That is what will make them happy. I think we can all agree that a happy Green Day is a good thing for us fans.

but I just don't know what the hell goes through their minds anymore... and it's killing me!

Did you ever honestly have that ability?

I don't know when you became a fan, so I don't know if you were around or old enough to care when publicity for the AI album began. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you would have been, or were, one of the fans having a cow about the whole rock opera concept. You love that album - the same album people were saying "what the fuck are they thinking" about. Just a thought.

Getting off my soap box before I'm shoved off...

That said I think it'll be a cool performance. I actually like how they do Last of the American Girls for the musical
