Empty Laughter Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 oh god, they look SO good, BJ specially awesome vid, thaaanks for the download link
DecanoLP Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Very good performance. Wonder why they never played it at their headlining live shows since this song is their last single...
justcause Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I liked it - it has this sunny, feelgood thing going on, and the setting was perfect for the song. Love the cheerleaders!!
Juliette Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Thanks for posting the video I don't like it with the cast, I don't think the voices go particularly well together... Like you've got Billie's voice which is really raw and rock-y, then these typical musical voices which are all shiny & perfect. Idk I just thought it sounded a bit weird. It also looked a teeny bit awkward when the girls were all like putting their arms round him & he didn't even acknowledge they were there or anything
Slappy. Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Love this performance! But I have to agree with everyone saying it would have been better without the cast, I have nothing against the cast but sometimes they make me cringe The grammys was okay but I just dont think they suited being on together at this occasion
Moffie Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 It also looked a teeny bit awkward when the girls were all like putting their arms round him & he didn't even acknowledge they were there or anything He didn't ignore them completely. Billie and Alysha Umphress shared a moment of looking at each other and smiling but he has to sing, perform and play guitar at the same time. He has to concentrate! He seemed happy that they were there. He looked like he enjoyed himself but that's just me.
GDM Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Thanks for posting the video I don't like it with the cast, I don't think the voices go particularly well together... It also looked a teeny bit awkward when the girls were all like putting their arms round him & he didn't even acknowledge they were there or anything I like the juxtaposition of Billie's voice and everyone else. And yea, the arm thing was a bit too Broadway for my taste, but it was cute.
oda Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Didn't love the girls in this performance. as many people say, they don't fit well with Bille Joe. Though I do love the cast on a general basis. And i have to admit the little "yeeaayeaa" thing at the end was awkward. Nice performance on green day's behalf though. (as always)
lizziebix Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I just watched this (without sound since I'm at work) and this performance looks absolutely amazing. Watching the interaction between the cast and Billie and Mike - is just so sexy. And the enthusiasm and excitement of the performance - just awesome. Everyone looked like they were having the best time. Can't wait to see again, but with sound, later. Although I might have to watch it again and again throughout the day without the sound. I really like the "look" of this performance.
RobyRoom Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Billie didn't look so comfortable during some bits, I reckon he has many things to do, playing, singing... but he looked really out of place. They don't belong to that world in the end, they should keep the two things, Green Day carrier and the musical, separated.
Bastard of 1967 Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 Just saw it.....another excellent performance by the band, definitely meets expectations in that regard, and most importantly it elevated LOTAG to a place where I find that it falls flat on the album -- I wouldn't have thought that LOTAG would ever be able to generate a "swift-kick-in-the-nuts" reaction in me, but in this airing it did. Well done, and they need to remix and re-release that song now. And while they're at it, they need to remix the whole damn album! But I digress. Now for a few critical thoughts: First, I have mixed feelings about the cast being there. The lead women definitely added something to the performance, but whoever did the audio engineering mic'ed them like SHIT. I could barely hear them in the mix, and that especially sucks because the ladies were really trying hard to add some well-harmonized vocals to the mix from the "She's A Rebel" lyrics. The already-great performance by the band would have been even better if we could have actually heard the backing vocals from the cast's female leads. As for the rest of the cast being "on stage" with the rest of the band? Mehhhh, they didn't really add much aside from eye candy. In terms of a collaborative performance between the band and the cast, they did a much better arrangement with 21 Guns at the last Grammy awards. That one got the entire cast involved and that style of performance would have been a better model to follow with LOTAG. Finally, Tre looked like he was suffering from a toothache. Whazzup wit dat continual grimace?
swarheely Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 i think it was good promotion for green day and the musical, the place is near nyc after all, but i think they could've picked a better song to do together, it's a good performance don't get me wrong, but at a football game i feel like a more in your face song is better ya know, i even think if they did the lotag\shes a rebel from the musical mix it wouldve been much more energetic
The Platypus! Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I didn't think the performance was that good to be honest, mainly because of the song I thought they could of chosen a better song, and what has Billie done to his hair!
jetsrule128 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 my only complaint about the cast is there is way to many people on stage did anyone even notice that Jason W Jason F And Jeff were there last night?
Boston Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Is it just me, or does Billie always look pissed off and bothered when he's performing on TV?
Bastard of 1967 Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 my only complaint about the cast is there is way to many people on stage did anyone even notice that Jason W Jason F And Jeff were there last night? Yep! All 3 looked great too.
Katarina. Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Here is my video on YouTube. Its in HD (if you turn it on) Download the HD video: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T27XTS37 Awesome, thanks for the links Matt!
SOMERTEN Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I really liked the performance and I thought the guys looked really happy (and younger!). The merging with 'She's a rebel' was great too. Only bit I didn't like was the Maria Carey/Beyonce style caterwauling at the end.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Hmm, I have to say the girls hanging all over Mike and especially Billie was a bit awkward, I don't really like how they 'set everyone up', now it was almost like the male part of the cast was just standing there for the sake of them having to stand somewhere while the girls kind of looked like they were just hanging around for a bit on stage, but for the rest, yay I don't think the cast's voices and Billie's voice work too well, but it still sounded cool, with the cast giving some depth to the vocals, if that's how you say it. Although the cast's mics were really too soft... did Billie re-dye his hair, or is it just me? Seems like there's more blond in there...
Smbcf Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Well, I thought Green Day were great But I'm still can't get my head around why the cast were even there to be honest. The whole "rocking out" thing looked so rehersed and fake it was just awkward, and I'm not sure there was any need for the whole Mariah-esque wailing at the end. I'm sure the musical is great, and I'd love to see it. But the cast and Green Day on the same stage, playing together.. nah thanks.
Vrock09 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I thought the performance was great, they could have done it without the cast, but it's all good Green Day sounded amazing though, I love Billie's "J-E-T-S!"
Smoothed Out Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 The performance was really good, I enjoyed it I wasn't sure at first because LOTAG isn't one of my favourites
JadedHaushinka Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Nice performance but would've preferred to see that without the cast.
CarnageXB Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 My mom just told me about this. GO Ravens!!!! Were going all the way this year.anyone else getting tired of seeing the AI cast with Green Day?
†...HAUSHINKA...† Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I didn't really like the cast being there. I have nothing against the cast at all and I would love to see the musical but it looked like there was no need for them to be at this at all. I totally feel the same!
