What's wrong with people wanting to let the band that they appreciate their music as well? I understand that it was Paris' actions first but to call it a "stupid idea" to make it some sort of tradition is childish.

Yeah sorry but as my english is shitty I can't find the right words...

It's fine. I just don't like it when people look like they're shooting down other people's ideas so harshly for something that should be made known every time.

Yeah, this is a good idea, definitely :)) They totally deserve millions of thank yous...:)

And..some of you in thread have mentioned some pictures with a lot of fans holding thank you signs from the show in Paris...Can anyone share this photo / photos? I would like to see them, but I can't find them anywhere...

I don't think throw a hat & thanks them is the same. The second is about emotion. Ok, the message will stay the same, but it won't have the same impact on them. Make it become a tradition, if you want (we can't prevent you to do that..), but we just tryuing to make you understand that you will be disappointed, because the band will have no reaction at the end.

@Moffie

We never said you can tell them you like them, we just want you to do not do it as we did, not in the same way. If I was Billie Joe, Tre and Mike, I would like to see the fans differents thanking at every show. It's just my opinion. And, yeah, jealousy is childish, but is human :)

It's kind of like, the first person who brought funny glasses to a Green Day show, or something like that. Perhaps they wanted to be remembered by that too, or something, but by now it's a tradition almost that people will bring funny glasses, hats or other stuff to shows, and both the band as well as the fans still really like that tradition (the fans because they keep bringing stuff, the band because they keep using it).

Oh I know it's not the same, but it was more about the principle of having an (original?) idea, and then other people doing it as well.

And of course they'll have a reaction. It might not stay as special, but for you that doesn't matter, since Paris was the first time that stays special.

And you said twice now to do it in a different way, but what other way is there, apart from signs? Throwing things on stage that say 'thank you'? It's still pretty much the same, the only difference being that it will probably fail and have a less effect. And there isn't much more you can do... it's not as if you can go sing a song to the band with the entire crowd or something, that's simply impossible.

edit: this post is also my reply to Babouche's post above me.

i think the thank you signs were a great idea and probably mean alot to the band. so you dont have to call it a tradition but for whoever wants to say thank you and make signs should go for it.

thats a real good idea :) And so cool that billie joe tweeted about it! :P xxx

Definitely this. That's all, what I wanted to say too. Not call it tradition, but it depends on fans,if they want to say thank you this way :)

Hum you can make a big flag or something big to put on the...(hum i don't know the word in english, the part where people are sitting ^^)

I think there's a lot of possibilities that I can't explain in english :)

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. You should all be proud and excited that we care enough to imitate your brilliant idea. And know we all will always know exactly where the idea originated.

The problem is not the imitation, it's just to make that as a tradition, 'cause the message that we would pass to GD in Paris will be not the same if every night it's the same surprise (No it will be not a surprise, every BJ will be waiting for his thanks...)

I stop post for today i'm going to bed, I hope that everything we have said didn't angry you. Now you know the opinion of the first people who make this idea =) Have a good day or good night (I don't the time in your country ^^)

Wait, what? I know one of you said that you were angry because the thank you's last night got a shout-out and you guys got "nothing." If you were doing it for the glory, you were doing it for the wrong reasons. I hope people continue to do it because Green Day deserves to know that they are appreciated.

Merci and Bonne Nuit.

Well, I'm one of the french fans who organized the "thanks signs" in Paris & we just fucking disapointed. We wanted the band to remember us .. we had nothing. Not a single word from their mouth. We wanted this idea to stay ours, we wanted people to said about us "that's the people who made..", you know ? A piece of glory, at least. But no.

So please, don't make it become a stupid tradition. We never stole your ideas, as far as I know. Moreover, the guys won't appreciate your thanks signs as they do in Paris or Virginia .. For me, it's useless.

PS : Sorry about this angry post, but don't hate me for being sad. You would do the same if one day you see yours efforts go up in smoke.. Oh and, I spoke for myself. Not for all my friends.

Dont be angry...it is only from your beautiful idea that I did it. I actually was thinking about instead of writing THANK YOU on the paper, writing MERCI as a nod to what you started. It would be awesome for someone to organize at one of the next shows maybe half the signs say MERCI and half say THANK YOU. Trust that this comes from a place of genuine appreciation for the sweat that these guys are putting into this "HO AS HELL TOUR" and not an attempt to rip anything off. It was a beautiful and touching thing you did and I do hope fans carry on your inspired idea.

For anyone wondering, I asked people waiting on line if they were in the pit, then I handed them a sign (just a regular piece of paper that I had photocopied with THANK YOU on it) and told them to hold it up during good riddance. Everyone folded it up and kept it in their pockets till the end Some held it up, some didnt, but obviously enough did.

She meant that she hoped that she didn't make us angry with what she said, I think, not that she was angry herself.

I've already given my opinion on this so I'll refrain from doing it again.

No, one of them said it earlier.

Yes, but they're two different persons. :)

I was talking about the person you quoted (in that previous post, not the one I'm quoting now), Babouche. She said 'she hoped she didn't make us angry', she didn't say 'she isn't angry about it'. Just kind of, wanted to say that because it'd be a pity if everyone got all 'ooh nooo you're angry at us!!!!' as her for no reason because of what seemed like a misunderstanding. I'm not implying that you were doing that, I just posted that kind of preventive.

But either way, I shouldn't have posted that, it's none of my business and unimportant and I should stop butting in, bad habit, sorry. :)

Yeah, yeah, she's cool. The other person just ticked me off a little.

But anyway.....COOL IDEA!

I personally think its a lovely idea.

I wonder if us Killjoys from Detroit can arrange it...

One's been posted in the thread already.

I would find it for you but I'm late for work lol. Just look back and there's a link with one on :)

Some of you made me reflect all night long (I posted yesterday at 1 a.m, still angry, so you'll understand the changing of opinion). You're right, we still be the first one, it won't changed anything to what we lived. It was childish to be jealous 'cause we had, in my mind, the best thanking someone can give you (by the way, Moffie, we didn't make it for the glory, but we were just quite disappointed the guys didn't say anything). Anyway, I'm not here to show off, but to tell you that, concerning your tradition, I finally agree. I adviced you to do not, 'cause I thought it won't had the same impact and I know how much a fucked up idea hurts, but I think I'm wrong, so why not ? :) My friends won't all agree, but I have nothing to say anymore against your idea. That's my last word.

PS : If the greendayloveat38's idea to write "merci" is applicated.. Just thanks you for the tribute ! And even if it not, like lizziebix said, "Imitation is the greatest form of flattery", so I just have to be proud :D

Cool idea.

And we could invent smth new as well :)

Hey guys!!! I'm a fan French too.

I haven't got any problem with the fact that you do the "thanks signs" a tradition.

I just want you to don't forget that the staple idea was from the French, and I think write "MERCI" on some signs could be a great idea. I hope you will do it, it could be a awesome tribute.

And sorry for my shitty english. :/
