Yeah, I remember this from Paris.

I was given about 50+ signs and handed them out to every one in the queue, it was an amazing idea. :)

I wondered what Billie meant by that, that's so epic :D

Last year at the Tampa show, I contemplated bringing a sign, but I'm glad I didn't, because security were assholes and took many of the signs, and told us in line if we had any to go put them in our cars. Grr.

I seriously held such a vendetta against the security there that night. haha.

My mom even had to smuggle my phone, her phone, and my camera all in her bra.

It worked though!

Anywho, I think the 'thank you' signs are a brilliant idea. They totally deserve it, they give so much to put on a kickass show.

that's awesomee.. :)

I had a THANK YOU SIGN, too!! XD I was at the Munich show on June 11th XD

This is such a cute and nice idea, and it clearly means a lot to them.

People should definitely keep this going!

awww I wish I could be part of that =)

It's such an awesome move

yeah this was was so fucking amazing at the Paris show. you could definitely see how much he appreciated it during Good Riddance.

im so down for doing this at every show.

Awww. Who started it at Paris?

Was Billie really choked up? What a nice idea

I loved that he acknowledged them in the Tweet. I think it's great to see.

Aaah maybe I'm just getting a little emotional but this literally made my eyes water! It's an absolutely beautiful idea and well done to the guys in Paris who did it and the recent show which Billie Joe tweeted about.

I can just imagine how lovely it must have been to see all those signs from on the stage. I just think it's the least we can do to show how much those guys mean to us and I wish I could thank them as I'd mean it from the bottom of my heart. Okay, it's just words and paper but I'm sure that it must mean a lot.

We should definitely continue at shows. Unfortunately I last saw them at Wembley and I'm probably not going to see them for a long while :(

Like the other shows, it doesn't need to be obtrusive banners or things, just a piece of paper you can fold up in your pocket till when you want to take it out. Literally just a A4 paper or larger with 'Thank You' written on. The words are simple but I think they sound so sincere and very touching. I really do think it would be especially effective during Good Riddance too :)

Sorry about my soppy message!

I like the idea A LOT!

And if I had the chance to go to any of the upcoming shows of this tour, I'd definitely make a thank you sign too for them. I guess I have to wait till the next tour! xD

I could totally do this for the Toronto show and hand 'em out, as I have LOADS of Bristol board left over from something I recently made to be featured in the next Green Day collab video ... But wouldn't it get kinda unoriginal after awhile? I'm not against thanking Green Day for all they've done for us as fans, but I dunno ... I just wish there were another way to do it. :pinch: But I can't think of anything!

Well, I'm one of the french fans who organized the "thanks signs" in Paris & we just fucking disapointed. We wanted the band to remember us .. we had nothing. Not a single word from their mouth. We wanted this idea to stay ours, we wanted people to said about us "that's the people who made..", you know ? A piece of glory, at least. But no.

So please, don't make it become a stupid tradition. We never stole your ideas, as far as I know. Moreover, the guys won't appreciate your thanks signs as they do in Paris or Virginia .. For me, it's useless.

PS : Sorry about this angry post, but don't hate me for being sad. You would do the same if one day you see yours efforts go up in smoke.. Oh and, I spoke for myself. Not for all my friends.

I think you actually got the glory, because you guys were the first to make it, and I'm sure the band remembers that!

Also, the person who started this thread, mentioned that it wasn't her original idea.

If I was the one who had the idea at first I would feel just amazing to see the "tradition" going on...

Why wouldn't they appreciate that?

I can totally understand your point and why you're sad. And I'm sure the band has remembered it, by the way, I couldn't see it from where I was, but from what I've hear Billie really reacted to it - surely they'd remember something like that! But look at it from the bright side - IF it become some sort of a tradition or something, you're the ones who started it, who took the original initiative! :) And besides, since you were the first ones to do something like that, it will surely be remembered. But also, don't you want other people to also have the opportunity to thank the band they love just as much as you do? And of course the band will appreaciate it.

I couldn't agree more. The first time I saw this, I got over emotional just thinking how it must feel to end the show, and having the Thank you signs laying there. It's just so sweet.

I don't know how to explain with my shitty english .. As times goes on, it won't do the same effect on them. You know, it's like your girlfriend or boyfriend tells you "I love you" everyday. The first week, it would make you cry, the second week just smile, then it will be a habbit. I don't know if you get what I'm saying ..

Maybe it's childish reaction, but no, we're not happy at all to see our idea (well, it's not our idea, but we are the first fans who made it) become a tradition, because we did that to make them remember of THIS SHOW. You could thanks them at gigs, but, try to make it in a different way. Please.

I'm a french fan who made some Thanks too.

I think it's a stupid idea to make a tradition, you know if we have done that it was to show to Green Day how they have changed our life. If every people every night will do that the message will forget... Cause BJ will be waiting for his thanks every night and it wouldn't be a surprise 'cause roooh I can't explain in english it's too difficult ><

Just for resume make the "thanks" as a tradition isn't a good idea for me and every people who made the thanks in Paris =(

I'm sorry for my english, I hope you understand my post ^^

I know what you mean, but they'll still appreciate it. :) Also, it won't be done at every single show, I highly doubt at every show there are a bunch of fans who want to make a whole lot of signs.

You know, that is true, but you stated yourself it's not your own idea. You're just the first people who did it, but I'm sure a whole bunch of other people have thought of it as well. What if those person's hadn't heard about the signs in Paris, but would have also made thank you signs for another show because they thought of it themselves, would that feel any different to you? The result is the same, and it's not like anyone here is claiming to have thought of it themselves. Besides, perhaps it's not even the first time someone has done this. Maybe not this large, but still.

I do, I really understand why you're sad, in some way I'd be like that too, but think of it as something good, that you started something that touches the band :)

and I wouldn't know how to do it in a different way... it will always be similar.

What's wrong with people wanting to let the band that they appreciate their music as well? I understand that it was Paris' actions first but to call it a "stupid idea" to make it some sort of tradition is childish.

Nothing's wrong with your English, it's perfectly understandable (same for the English from virginxbeach) :)

Of course they won't forget the message! I'll use the before used example. When a couple tell each other they love each other, it doesn't suddenly lose it's meaning after a while.

and you're not the only ones whose lives have been changed by Green Day and who want to thank them for that.

It's kind of like, the first person who brought funny glasses to a Green Day show, or something like that. Perhaps they wanted to be remembered by that too, or something, but by now it's a tradition almost that people will bring funny glasses, hats or other stuff to shows, and both the band as well as the fans still really like that tradition (the fans because they keep bringing stuff, the band because they keep using it).

You guys can rest assured, Montreal will be thanking Green Day with more signs than you can imagine :)

Edit: I just read through the rest of the thread... I don't understand why anyone wouldn't want this to happen at more shows... The band won't forget that Paris was the first place to do this, and neither will the fans who continue to bring the signs. We love you guys for starting this, so why not give everyone a chance to thank the band in such a simple way :)
