What are things about Green Day that you don't like?

this post is going to be looooooong and quotes only. 's easier replying to things that have already been said than typing those same things out myself.

but speaking of tre, his hair this era. it used to be all sexy and rraah :eyebrow: during ai, and now he's like slicked it back into this fauxhauk-ish thing?

it's like a triangle on top of his head. Dislike.

Yeah. At some of their bigger shows in Europe i.e. PARIS where a lot of fans travelled a pretty big distance just to see them live (ME), they played a pretty standard festival setlist. Yet, a week later in Mainz, they had this amazing rare setlist. It's not fair, really. I know I shouldnt complain... because Paris was good. But it really pissed me off

this deserves to be repeated.

also because in the shows before AND after Paris they played more rare songs etc and then for a big city like that (although I sorta don't like that the 'best setlists' usually are for big places/big cities, and the smaller places get the average setlists. The end of the 2nd European leg being an exception. So I'm being kind of a huge hypocrite now) they do a standard. And it happens far more often. More variation in ALL shows plz :)

Not saying that the show wasn't awesome and all and it's not like I suddenly think less of it as a show or experience because of that, it was still great and I loved it, but still, y'know.

I honestly feel like Tre's an asshole a lot of times. I always got the impression he was kind of rude to fans, and I feel like this in a lot of interviews/public appearances the band does.

Yes...sometimes it's funny, but more than seldom he'll do something or say something where it's kind of a dick move. I can't think of any specific things right now, but I recall feeling like that more than once.

about this, Im not a big fan of the song, specially cause there's no official recording, but I dont hate it.

Thing is, I think it's just important to the people that were at the show, and actually got to listen to it live, so we dont get the excitement about it.

Wait, what? So a song can only be liked if there is either an official recording, or you've seen it live?

I mean, it's not the most sophisticated of songs, but I still like it, even though I haven't seen it live.

I agree that Tre is a real dick sometimes. Sure, he can be funny, but a lot of the shit that he says and does makes me think "wait...what made you think that was okay?"

I remember reading an article that was written in either the Dookie or Nimrod era, where Tre put two Japanese fighting fish in a bowl with each other, and I think one ended up killing the other? He might have revived it, but either way, I was just absolutely disgusted.

Arghhh this. That was just disgusting, and I don't see how anyone could have ever thought that was or is funny in any way.

aaand like a lot of people have already said in both this thread and a whole bunch of other threads, that 21stCB is overproduced blabla.

1) There's barely any pre 21st Century Breakdown merch nevermind American Idiot

2) I've looked on all the official merch sites and there's barely anything that you wouldn't get at the gigs, I just think there should be a wider range, and definitely more merch from previous albums.

We fixed that, at least for tomorrow's show outside of Washington DC. We ran a batch of 11 custom t-shirts that a bunch of GDC'ers in the pit will be wearing. Bonus points for anyone who gets the joke:

Mike's hair. :)

I don't like BJ always being the one who talks in interviews and stuff, and Mike and Tre just sitting there and looking pretty. Or they don't even get invited to the interview because everyone seems to be interested in Billie alone. That's annoying because yes, BJ writes the lyrics and yes, he's the frontman, but no, he's not the only band member that matters.

I kind of agree, sometimes I want Billie Joe to shut up. But when Trè talks during interviews it's bad. He just says wacko things like "I got a boner". I was just thinking god you're almost 40 don't talk like that.

This. I mean, with the new tour that just started, they've been putting in a little variety, but still, it's not much. It's still the same routine, the same "hey-ohs", the same antics... I don't know. To me, it just gets a little old. I know a lot of people love it, and I realize that Green Day still puts on a great show, but it's not a very varying performance, to say the least.

tbh in my opionion this is harsh. when a band tours they put on the same show thats whats it's supposed to be its the same show that tours and to say its annoying that they dont change a set on the same tour seems dumb to me because if they kept playing that set in the same place i'd see your point but there not there touring with that show and when they launch there next tour it will be an enteirly different show.

I wish Joan Jett was opening for Virginia :( We got AFI.. I don't even know if I know any of their songs.

I heard AFI during the Camden opening. Their frontman's a bit bling-happy and they don't have the stage presence that Green Day does (heck, *nobody* else touring now does!) but they've got a good sound.

The only thing I can say I honestly dislike about them is that they haven't played a show even close to me. Closest would be Quebec. :(

@Bastard: Joey left before all that happened. Thank God he was only able to find out through Youtube.

Still pretty damn ... like, used to it or not, I wouldn't like to find videos of my dad doing that

also when playing live they tend to focus more on the fans in the pit at the very front, unless that was jsut at wembly, if it is every gig then sorry but some of us have jobs that we have to hold and cant stay outside the venue for 3 days straight

Could you explain that? I don't really get what you mean. Like, because they pick out people from the front, something like that? :)

I think you can get into a fan thing of getting hung up on set-lists, and forget how amazing the 'regular' songs are - jeez, when I heard 'She' at the Bowery Ballroom, it just went straight to the place of the first time that I heard it.

I agree....especially just about *anything* that pushes Mike's power chords into the foreground. The bridge in She (*so* angry and full of rage), the chorus in WMUWSE and 21 Guns (the despair and exhaustion), and just about everywhere you listen in Church on Sunday and Westbound Sign are just a couple of examples that come to mind. When Mike's on like that, his bass and Tre's percussion become synergistic and push the songs to a level they just couldn't reach without that.

Thing is, I think it's just important to the people that were at the show, and actually got to listen to it live, so we dont get the excitement about it.

I think that's true - it was one of those in-the-moment things. And honestly, even if it's not the most deep and meaningful song, lol, it was really exciting and fun to hear a new song and be part of it live.

The thing that cracks my wife and me up is that Billie's got one tween and one teen of his own. I'm sure Jakob & Joey are used to it by now, but could you imagine at Bowery Electric a few months ago, Joey's band is *opening* for FBHT and then later, Dad's hanging from the ceiling pipes, chugging the PBR, hips gyrating, screaming "oh baby baby it's f**k time!!" with all the 20somethings in the audience feeling him up while his son is right there in the room with him? What does Joey do if someone asks what he thinks -- just shrug and say "yup, that's my pa...."??

We were all wondering how that was gonna be - it was odd and slightly uncomfortable with Adrienne standing in the back of the room while the Rev was doing his 'thing' lol. Thankfully, after Emily Army's set was over, they went backstage for a bit and were escorted out.

EDIT: Oh well, someone got to answer before I did. I would hope he wouldn't even want to look for videos...lol.

I honestly can't think of anything that really bugs me about Green Day. There are songs I like less than others and looks I like less than others, but nothing really stands out enough to complain about.

I can't really say anything that I dislike them as people, because I don't know them to that extent, but....

I would like to hear Mike and Tre talk more in interviews....even if Tre's comments are useless...

I totally agree with the point made about the internet being the reason why there's a bit of a fuss made over how some songs were played at certain shows.

Im thankful for any song we get when I see them and sure I might be a bit disappointed to find out that somewhere else got rarer songs but I dont mind that much at all. I guess its because partly seeing them live was always a dream of mine since I first became a fan, regardless of what songs they play I will always be ecstatic that Im seeing them.

I mean, I can see it from both sides though because if it werent for the internet, I wouldnt've known about the tour most likely, maybe I wouldve seen it in the newspaper but it wouldve been too late to get tickets at that stage. But I do partly think that because we basically know everything that happens at every show due to the internet, that it might seem that other places get special attention/songs.

And in response to the person saying they tend to focus on the fans at the front of the pit and not anywhere else, I mean you surely cant expect them to go around to every section of people in a 90,000 capacity stadium  I've always felt they include everyone in their shows, and I think that's part of the reason they have a catwalk, so they can come out into the crowd. And at the arena shows last year and this summer's stadium shows Billie would specifically shoot tshirts up to the seating section and depending on the layout of the arenas last year he would go up to the seats during Know Your Enemy and play his guitar solo.

I still have to make up my mind about this question.

I don't know, right know I would say that I don't like the fact that they have too much attention from the media, I think that it is a creativity killer somehow. I would like them to be more free and spontaneous, cause I think, though I like the record, that 21CB ended up to be too sophisticated.

I would like an album like Warning, something more playful

I don't dislike the inaccurate spelling in the first place. I think Billie's not doing it intentionally, trying to be funny. That would be ridiculous.

The only member I can still say that I really like as a person is Mike.

i dont really think tre is that much of an asshole. a lot of what he does is for a reaction. from what ive noticed, he seems to mess with people when hes bored or when he doesnt like someone. hes just at total smartass. he seems to give respect to people that he thinks deserve it [i can be the same way.... :) ] when i met him, he couldnt have been any nicer. i think billie is reallllyyyyy sweet guy too.

I've heard that Tre's been rude to some fans too. I don't know how it is to being chased in the streets to get pics and autographs everyday, I guess it can be understandable if he isn't always so friendly.

I'm almost feeling judged by them for having one. Like, did I miss something, why is it any worse than Twitter?

Yeah, this bothers me too. It can be a great tool for keeping in touch with people. Not all of us are sitting hunched over our computers all day, pale from lack of sunlight and following every move of our virtual friends on line. I've found it to be great for getting back in touch with old friends from high school and college and old coworkers. Also an excellent way to keep up with my GD friends - I could never talk to them all on the phone on a daily basis.

Certainly there are bad things about it - stalkers, bullying, people pretending to be someone else...god knows there are enough fake profiles out there for all three of them. And maybe all that shit is enough for Billie Joe to stay far far away. I guess I would. But I don't think I would judge anyone who found it useful and enjoyable.

Yeah, I dont get the FB hate either, I know there are fake profiles about them, but c'mon what else can they expect? obviously a real fan will know it's not them. And I dont know, I've always liked fb, it's different than the other social networks, it has privacy settings, and I can only be friends with people I know, or people I want to be friends with. But oh well, to each his own, I wont take what he says too seriously

Wait, what? So a song can only be liked if there is either an official recording, or you've seen it live?

Oh no! that's not what I meant! it's just my opinion about why some people make a big fuss about it, I listen to the song too, not that often, but I do and I like it. The people that were at the show simply enjoy it more cause they were the ones that actually got to listen to it.

I dont know, words arent coming out right right now, I just woke up, just dont take it the wrong way

People can have good days and bad days. That's what being human is all about.

I couldn't agree more.

Ahh okay. Yeah, I guess people who saw it live do enjoy it more. Or maybe in a different way. I still think it's hilarious (although it's a little 'too much' )

I agree with this absolutely! Such a simple thing, but I think people forget that Billie, Mike, and Tre are indeed human. :)

I couldn't agree with you more.

People ask me about setlists from the AI era and I honestly have no clue. and I know at my show I had no clue if the set was the same as any others either because I was spending so much time on the internet reading about the shows.

I still don't really do that to be honest - I know the set off by heart now because I've seen them so many times on this tour, but last year I didn't really pay that much attention.

It is really sad when people discredited the shows that meant so much to them, until they see that somewhere else heard a rarer song or whatever. I love the innocence of young kids at shows that don't really know what to expect and don't realize that they're getting the "standard". They just get so into it and they love every moment and yeah, stupid internet :P

This. The first time I saw Green Day I didn't get to hear any rare songs but I was still so overwhelmed by.. well, everything. I sometimes forget how awesome a song like Holiday is, especially live. I try to stay away from the tour section now.

Does anyone remember the show they did in Chicago years ago, I think it was during the Insomniac tour. Anyway, all three of them were so stoned or on speed or whatever. It was just not funny anymore. Especially when Billie started to strum on his guitar like a maniac with this spaced out look on his face. I was kinda embarrassed for all three of them.

I shouln't have read this thread. I didn't know any of the stuff about Tre and the fish  That's disturbing.

I love Tre (not like that...but, y'know), but he can be a dick.

I miss being able to laugh at stuff in their albums. American Idiot had amusing moments but 21cb not so much. I know they're getting older/mature and all that crap but if you see them live they're always cracking jokes, but that didn't translate well onto the new album. =/

^ & This. They kinda seem to be losing their sense of humor in their songs.

I don't think they're losing it, It's Fuck Time is proof of that  They just didn't put them on the record, don't get me wrong I love the album but I missed that a little.

Am I the only one who doesn't like that fact that Billie says "the second night is always better than the first", whenever they play two dates at the same venue? e.g. BIAB, the O2, MSG. Obviously some nights of the tour are going to be better than others which is usually not on purpose but this seems almost intentional as Billie will always the second night is better. Meaning if you are a fan going on the first night you've paid the same price as people going the next night, who will get a better show e.g. a bigger and better set list, which I 'spose isn't really fair on the fans.

I'd like to see Mike get more recognition like getting more time to talk and be able to hear his bass, like a lot of you guys are saying.

And as much as I like following them on Twitter, I would like to see them use it like other bands and musicians use twitter so you get to know them a bit better instead of just facebook hating and bad grammar.
