Moffie Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I really think with the Billie talking more in interviews thing........that's how it should be. If they're asking questions about the songs, then well, Billie wrote them! So he's going to answer questions about them. Mike and Tre get more recognition and time to speak in interviews than the bassists and drummers in any other band I can think of. Who would even recognise the drummer of Oasis or the bassist of Coldplay? I think Green Day have it good in terms of them all having a voice in interviews. But of course the lead singer and songwriter is going to have more to contribute. I think they all seem perfectly comfortable with that. I understand that but what bothers me is when Billie would INTERRUPT everyone else. He did this a lot in the past and I think he's realizing that it's rude and apologizes to whoever was talking (mostly Mike) and lets them finish. But people make it out that Billie is like, "RAWR, MY BANDDDDDD." and he's not. The lead singer has always talked the most because they usually write the lyrics. I feel like Billie has gotten better recently in interviews in letting Mike and Tre talk compared to other eras. To those who make it seem like Billie makes Green Day into "The Billie Joe Band:" I have seen A LOT worse from other bands. Bands that some of you like.
justcause Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I'm probably biased cause I was at both shows so I can't really talk, but I just think we should leave their setlists alone. They can really play whatever they want, and whether we think its fair or not, some people never got to see them at all on the tour. I mentioned that Paris was a pretty average setlist somewhere and people were all "OMG NO IT WASN'T! IT WAS AMAZING!" I think its a matter of opinion, and definitely perspective. If we look back to past tours, they weren't playing like When Its Time or Nice Guys Finish Last or Waiting or...I've forgotten what they played in Paris, but in comparison to what they played in Australia or somewhere last year, it was an amazing set. Mainz and Prague were just off their nut. But they can't play shows that are that varied EVERY night. It often crosses my mind that this is one of those internet things - like, pre-internet, if you went to see a band, your only perspective would be the show they played that nite - your show. You wouldn't have any consciousness of the one they played in the previous city, or the next city - your whole focus would be on the experience you had, no comparisons. Believe it or not, there are still people who have that same vibe, because they're not checking out every single show online. Sometimes I see stuff in the tour threads here where people are ecstatic after their show, only to feel somehow cheated if there's a 'superior' setlist at the next show - I think it's a little bit sad.
MascaraTears Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I just racked my brain and I can honestly say, I can't think of a single thing. I'm not the kind of person who would never ever criticize them, I just really can't think of anything I don't like about them
Erica. Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 This is what I hate. Not Green Day themselves but Green Day fans who make threads like this. Makes people like me (people who love them no matter what they do) feel depressed when people put down the band in any way. Not everyone's perfect, and you can't expect a band to be. I love threads like these because they generate discussion. It is so irritating to read "Omg how could you say that, this band is perfect gtfo," because no discussion is generated, hence why this section is so boring. If you think the band is perfect and can do no wrong, then you go ahead and think that, say it, shout it to the heavens. But don't blame other people for trying to spark discussion. If you get so depressed, then don't read it. Nothing here is compelling you to click.
EvanAsFuck Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Well it's not exactly something i don't like specifically about Green Day, but when the hell is the Foxboro Hot Tubs tour happening! Even if it's just like 5-10 stops!

EvanAsFuck Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 The only thing I dont like is how they swear (using fuck or shit) in most of their singles. Sounds cheesy, but it causes problems, like if I'm in the car with my parents and Green Day is on the radio, and Billie Joe sings "I'm so fuckin happy I could cry" i have to say something loud to block it out or something. Its fine in some cases depending on the song but some songs, preferably singles, dont need swears. Ssee BOBD/Geek Stink Breath/Stuck With Me/Nice Guys Finish Last. Some songs like Minority are ok because it gets the message across, but other times it isn't necessary. And no, the songs aren't censored on the stations I listen to. So there ARE exceptions to my point. haha, well i think the swearing adds to the theme of the lyrics, it makes it more serious and gets the point across much better in most cases And that sucks though, my parents don't care...
coghlan351595 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 well it does bug me sometimes that they try to please everyone nowadays. I remember reading some letter to a mother that complained about the music where billie said to fuck off and that he writes music for nobody but himself. That attitude seems more green day to me than the more mainstream green day of now a days
amy_runs Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Today I was thinking about it, and I haven't listened to 21st Century Breakdown all the way through since the month it came out. I'm not a huge fan it of anymore. I hope they go back to their rooooooots

I mean, i love their music, but i am not so obsessed that i cannot even find a flaw. Its not like billie tre and mike are holy

Of course you love them or you wouldn't be here. But in the span of Green Day's entire career, I don't understand how someone can sit there and say they love every single thing about them. Of course, earlier I only mentioned one flaw, but plenty of things they do annoy me. I still love them, but I managed to be rational enough to see that flaws exist.
iwroteholdencaulfield! Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Is there something wrong with one man kissing another? no it's just that it gives even more reasons for the haters to hate
Mar Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 PS - I should mention that I DO find it amusing that they always fuck things up (i.e.- Its ho as hell!!!!), but sometimes it's just kind of embarrassing Yes, their grammar makes me cringe often. I honestly feel like Tre's an asshole a lot of times. I always got the impression he was kind of rude to fans, and I feel like this in a lot of interviews/public appearances the band does. I'm still disappointed with Billie for the DUI. There's probably more, but those are the two most common things I dislike.
spark in the night Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Most of their merch is ugly and it always has been. lol thisalso, I am not a fan of all the floor humping and peewee-nis grabbing that Billie does on stage and sometimes I also get kinda irked after he brings up a child for EJN and then when he sends them away saying "get the fuck off my stage!" or something like that I know he swears at concerts, and that children do attend, but still.... I really think the humping is old, and I'm SO glad he stopped masturbating to Hitchin' a Ride. I still love you Beej
CaesarSalad Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 watch me get crucified: i hate the twitter updates. okay, not the updates themselves. i just hate how it because the new coolest thing to say. "it's ho as hell." i did not laugh when i read this. not the first time, not the four hundredth time. i will never think that's funny. and the whole "it's fuck time" thing--fuck it. it is a grammatically whack sentence that annoys me so so so much. no it's just that it gives even more reasons for the haters to hate so what. fuck the haters. isn't that the ~punk thing to do?

That's true. That's kind of why I've stopped following the tour forum so extensively, because I get sad when I see them perform songs at another show/a longer setlist than when I saw them. It's a catch-22...you either have people pissed because they only play certain songs once in a blue moon rather than regularly, and then you get the complaints that the setlist is too basic. I understand both complaints, by the way. and the whole "it's fuck time" thing--fuck it. it is a grammatically whack sentence that annoys me so so so much. I was never into the song or that whole movement, or whatever you want to call it, don't worry.
spark in the night Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I thought the fuck time was funny, but the lyrics to that song.....

Aw hahaha so true I do get a bit tired of all the questions being answered by Billie, but they're all questions that only he would really know. My biggest complaint is I wish they would do more just-for-fun-type interviews. They get asked the same. exact. questions. over and over and over. I miss the interviews that asked stupid things like "What's your favorite color?" type questions. Just make things less serious for once yknow?

Erica. Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 and the whole "it's fuck time" thing--fuck it. it is a grammatically whack sentence that annoys me so so so much. I hate the existence of "It's Fuck Time" or whatever the fuck it is. I listened to a shitty recording once, didn't like the song at all. But all I ever see is how obsessed people are with it and how they keep wishing they'll play it and it's like, why? And if I'm going to see Green Day, I want to hear Green Day songs, not FHT songs. idgaf if they're the same band. The song sucks.
Vespertine Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 and the whole "it's fuck time" thing--fuck it. it is a grammatically whack sentence that annoys me so so so much. This is kinda annoying.
gdpony Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 This is kinda annoying. about this, Im not a big fan of the song, specially cause there's no official recording, but I dont hate it. Thing is, I think it's just important to the people that were at the show, and actually got to listen to it live, so we dont get the excitement about it.
mandajane Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 i dont like how they have clothing in pacsun.....i still dont get what green day has to do with surfing..... and i still think they should go back to their basic 3 chord punk rock. that would be the best thing EVERRRR
