Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 I just mean, fine, write songs about it. You can say you don't like the war. You can say you don't like a certain President. But you look like a douchbag when you call the President an asshole. I haven't heard any musicians calling Obama an asshole. Maybe because they know it will make them look bad. And why the fuck is everyone ganging up on me? Can you just let it go? We aren't going to change each other's minds! This wasn't meant to be a political thread but once you attacked me YOU ALL made it one. Maybe no musician has called Obama an asshole because they all think he's a good president. Although I doubt that no musician has called him an asshole. And if no musician, he's got enough people who dislike him. Also, I don't think you look like a douchebag when you call the president an asshole. I'd rather think it's stupid if you dislike a president but don't say it. I have more to say on that, but I won't since this is not the thread or time for it. We're not ganging up on you or attacking you, we disagree and discuss with you. I agree with you one hundred percent! ((And not just in this thread, pretty much in every thread you've ever posted in, LOL. For some reason you always express the same opinion as the one I've already formed in my head. )) I have to deal with this sort of thing personally all the time, both online and off, as I'm extremely opinionated ... And according to my 'haters', I'm also extremely influential? They all seem to hold the identical stance that whenever I state a strong opinion, I'm doing it purely to force everyone else to agree with me. Uh, no. Just like right now, I'm simply stating my opinion because I want to, and because I can't stand keeping shit bottled up if I can help it. If I care enough about something, either positively or negatively, you'd better Goddamn well believe that I'm going to let everyone within twenty miles know about it. However, this doesn't mean that I expect everyone to agree with me. In fact, just the opposite ... I usually expect to be completely struck down for my opinions. But because I personally find it important that I always speak about things I feel strongly about --- Whether or not anyone's going to agree, or, Hell, even listen --- I consider a bit of a smack down afterwards worth it. Basically, I'd rather get spat on for saying what I really think, as opposed to keeping my mouth shut purely to be safe from the flying spittle of others. Haha, nice Ah I get the same shit, especially in my family I'll disagree with something, I say it, and it's all "stop fighting!". Although I guess when I get into the discussion I do get kind of fierce on it. But anyways, I completely agree with what you said. Well, my originally post said nothing about Bush or Obama. I never wanted to start a debate. You asked what I didn't like about Green Day and I told you. It should have ended there. Your original post was that you didn't like Green Day calling Bush an asshole.
711_Disciple Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 if they would just fucking tour with Alkaline Trio..... Ok, so I know this was days ago... but THISSSS. Also, I'm not a fan at all of any single they've released for this album (except I'm kind of a sucker for "Know Your Enemy"...). I get that some of the tracks may not be "radio friendly" in a catchy sense, but when you have Before the Lobotomy and East Jesus Nowhere on an album, you pick Last of the American Girls instead? Really? Also, to everyone who said that Billie needs to back off the mic: I could not agree more. I don't even blame him for it, really, most of the time...it almost seems like the interviewers go to him by default. Tre's more than capable of calling plenty of attention to himself, and I wish he would use that skill in those situations.
Doris The Spider Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 . Your original post was that you didn't like Green Day calling Bush an asshole. NO, it was not. This was my original post That they express their political and religious views. My mother always told me to never talk politics or religion with anyone. Just let people believe what they want and shut up. And that Mike's bass is hard to hear in songs now. I loved the heavy basslines in the early days. I said things about them calling Bush an asshole after everyone relied to me asking why I think that.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 NO, it was not. This was my original post I said things about them calling Bush an asshole after everyone relied to me asking why I think that. Oh, okay, sorry then.
Tripe Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 So much this. Like you, I realize the band doesn't control the tour schedule, so I don't mean to sound like I'm blaming them. But it is something about Green Day as a band that I don't like - that I can't see them. So, I guess it's more of a gripe against Green Day as a BRAND. I honestly cannot figure out why they skipped the state, especially this time around. Blossom could have easily been filled. As you said, they wait so long between albums. That's why I'm so bummed about not being able to see them, because I doubt they'll tour the US again until after the next album comes out. And at this rate, that's basically 2015. Annoyed Ohioans, unite! I've been calling for the all-Ohio tour right after South America for awhile now, haaaaaa. I imagine the skipping of this state must have had something to do with the availability of ampitheaters at the right time or whatever. Riverbend in Cincinnati would have done nicely, too.

I feel bad for anyone who's state gets skipped. Wisconsin gets skipped sometimes. I think Billie Joe has a thing against Milwaukee after his little nudity incident. xD I agree with you one hundred percent! I hate to say this, but you kinda did this to yourself, hun. You might've guessed that a Green Day fan forum would be full of Bush bashers and Obama supporters. Obviously you're gonna get shit for what you said! Which is ironic, since your main point was that people needed to shut their traps and keep their opinions under wraps. I love you.
Hermione Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Well, my originally post said nothing about Bush or Obama. I never wanted to start a debate. This thread ASKED for my opinion and I told you. It should have ended there. And I'm not attacking you, I'm just saying... The whole point of threads is to discuss and debate. It's up to you if you want to continue a discussion or not, but you don't need to take it personally or get offended if people try to debate with you about something. That's just what the forum's for.
Chad is Rad Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Sometimes, the way Tre' acts is a bit too much for me, to be completely honest. He should take it down a notch sometimes...but then again it is Tre'. If he wasn't crazy it would just be kind of odd.

I'm sick of arguing about it.
Hermione Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Yeah, but if I back down it's as if I lost. Or at least that's how I feel. But whether it means I lost or not, I'm done. I imagine the skipping of this state must have had something to do with the availability of ampitheaters at the right time or whatever. Riverbend in Cincinnati would have done nicely, too. Yeah, anything! Cincinnati would have been much farther than Detroit for me, but dammit, I could have MADE it to a show, that's the key. I feel bad for anyone who's state gets skipped. Wisconsin gets skipped sometimes. I think Billie Joe has a thing against Milwaukee after his little nudity incident. xD Ooh, elaborate on that, please! To be honest I have no idea why Ohio is skipped. We went blue in 2008, what else can we do?
Isabel Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Yeah, anything! Cincinnati would have been much farther than Detroit for me, but dammit, I could have MADE it to a show, that's the key. Awh I can imagine how frustrating that must be. I'm so lucky when it comes to Green Day, they've been coming to Ireland since 1991. But Less Than Jake on the other hand, they haven't been here since 2006 so I have to fly over to England to see them. It's so frustrating, especially since they play in places like Luxembourg and Belgium and they don't play here.

Li Sa Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Wow, Maddy, good and thought-provoking topic......off the top of my head I can't say there's much *not* to like about 'em, but give me some time to think about it. Edit: Ok got a couple of items for you.... First, when the whole band does an interview together I'd like to see Mike and Tre get a little more mic time, and I'd like to see Tre *earn* that mic time by approaching the interview more seriously than he usually does. I know Billie is the frontman, and that in the interviews Mike plays the straight-man and Tre plays the clown, but Mike is really intelligent and often has a lot of good things to say. The skill and experience that Tre has, that justs busts outta him when he's playing live on stage, sometimes gets overshadowed when he goes goofy on us on camera. The other thing that comes to mind goes more toward what their next studio album might sound like. The thing I dislike the most about Butch Vig's production of 21CB was how Mike's bass licks got mixed so far into the background that you have to listen real hard to hear them. I think that's one of the reasons why 21CB's songs play so well live while they tend to go "meh..." on the album. Next album's gotta bring Mike back into the foreground again. All for now. I'll add more here if anything else comes to me in a dream or somethin'. good points well.... maybe that every german concert is at least 1 and a half hours/300 km from my hometown

Oh man, I feel like people are going to get sick of me saying this, but yeah, the reason I can't go to Detroit is because it's my first day of classes, and due to first day attendance policies (where I'll get dropped from the class if I don't go), I can't make it there in time (because my school is about 2 hours away from the venue). So it's like, SO CLOSE, SO CLOSE BUT YET SO FAR! But I mean, like you said with Luxembourg and Belgium, those are big places like Detroit (not in the same scale, but I'm talking figuratively). But like Ireland, Ohio is a pretty big concert market (again, not in scale)! So annoying! Billie Joe got arrested for nudity in Milwaukee Man, and I thought I knew everything about this band! Thanks!
bat-chen Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Billie Joe got arrested for nudity in Milwaukee when? details please!
RockSeason Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 I never liked that they did a collaboration with U2. I don't really know why but I got kind worried that Billie'd start thinking he's the one who can save the world, like Bono sometimes does. and it's nice if they care about the environment but to be honest I don't think they do anymore for saving it then anyone else. Of course I don't have a proof for that. but y'know. agreed. i didn't like that collaboration, too. but besides that, i am really in love with everything about green day.
Hermione Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 when? details please! Billie Cited For Indecent Exposure November 21, 1996 - Mecca Auitorium, Milwaukee Billie Joe pulled a Jim Morrison and exposed himself to 6000 or so fans at the Mecca Auditorium, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. That was, of course, Armstrong's clever way of letting Green Day fans who understand Green Day-ese know that the Mecca was a mediocre show. After Green Day finished their hour long set, police officers took Armstrong to the Milwaukee police station, where he was cited for indecent exposure. After he paid the bail of $141.85, he was released. But why don't we let Lt. Thomas Christopher of the Milwaukee PD explain what happened, as only law enforcement can: "Mr. Armstrong dropped his pants to his knees and exposed his buttocks to the crowd. After the concert, Mr. Armstrong was taken into custody, given a city citation for indecent exposure. He posted a bail and was released." Officers went out of their way not to disrupt the concert, in order to avoid a potential riot. Instead they waited until the last notes were played and apprehended Armstrong on the way to his limo. "The problem was he exposed himself to a crowd of about 6,000 people," said Lt. Christopher. "Including people as young as ten. That was our main reason for taking the action."

I second the motion! Road tripping to see Green Day was an awesome adventure and all, and totally worth it...but I could definitely afford to go to more gigs if I wasn't rushing across the country for each one.

Ah, I'd never seen that article before Quite recently there was an interview with Billie Joe in which he also told about this. He used to do stuff like that often, which the police didn't want, so ultimately they told him that if he'd do it one more time, he'd be arrested. At all shows from then on were police officers, and then there in Milwaukee it went wrong. I wish I could find the article, I'm scared I rememberd something wrong or something. xD
