ifmemoryserves Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Wow everyone is going to hate me now... I don't like that Tre had gotten so... ~big. He just looks a bit silly now. BUT I STILL LOVE HIM. lololol Ellen... I kind of agree. I mean, I don't hate or dislike Green Day any more for it, but I would like it if he was a little thinner. He doesn't look good when he's chubby. But apparently he's lost a little weight recently? Speaking of chubby, Jill does not like the Chubby BJA Era.
lizziebix Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Wow everyone is going to hate me now... I don't like that Tre had gotten so... ~big. He just looks a bit silly now. BUT I STILL LOVE HIM. Big? As in large or big-headed?
greendaygal89 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 i hate everything about Green Day they suck hahah i love them really
Maddy. Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 Well for one, I don't particularly like the image they have at the moment. For instance, you say that you like Green Day and people say "they were cool in 2005" or "Green Day is gay" or even "Really? Green Day?" Yes, they were "cool" in 2005. You have a point. But it doesn't necessarily mean that they're not a good band anymore. As if it's required to be "cool" to be a good band. The fact that many people move on after Green Day being a bit of a fad annoys me. But that has more to do with the fans more than anything. I could say a great deal more about Green Day fans but I won't. In answer to the "Eyeliner" comment, that did help sort of shape their image. Green Day (during American Idiot) wrote rather depressing/emotional songs that caused a lot of people to say that Green Day was emo. Especially with the dark circles around their eyes and their clothing. I don't particularly hate their look back then, I have to say it was rather snazzy and ~hip but it didn't help make them look a bit prat-like. In reference to the last comment people make about Green Day, I hate it that they're seen as a bit of an immature, "beginners" band. As if your music tastes sort of evolves after you go through a phase of liking Green Day. I don't really know where this comes from. Well, maybe it's because of their early days when they were little snotty brats. I guess that's how they fashioned their "we r immature bastards deal with it" image. So it's pretty much their own fault. I guess it's not really their fault as they couldn't help being immature bastards, I guess, but still, it's sort of stuck and people can't let it go. For two, I think that Green Day could have done a much better job at promoting their most recent album. So far (?) the music videos have been shite, to match the singles chosen and barely anyone who you mention Green Day to has even heard of 21st Century Breakdown. Then again, you could say that Green Day aren't really to blame for the bad promotion but they still could have stuck their oar in a bit, right? After all, they did say that this was the album of their lives. Well, you just threw it away. Nice one, Green Day. I'm sure they must have had a say in the choosing of the singles. Am I right? Because if so, they did a really bad job. Granted, they might not want another "we r so popular~" era like in the American Idiot days but still, that's what Warner does best. To me, this whole era has been exceedlingly disappointing. I had high hopes for this album, it could have been brilliant. But it's been shoved to the background and barely spoken of. Fucking shame. Another thing that annoys me is the lack of variety in their shows. Okay, they play a few different oldies songs but to be quite motherfucking honest, I don't care. During the concert in Ahoy, Rotterdam, I could predict what they were going to do almost down to the word. After Bullet In A Bible, you'd think they'd change their antics. All the shows are, are BIAB + a few songs from the new album. The kids on stage thing is pretty cool, I must admit. But the rest has completely lost its novelty. Granted, it must be hard for them to think up a whole new show and a lot of people are happy with it. And the shows are quite good. But it's all a bit old hat. There are a few more but this post is big enough as it is.
heartscollide Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Big? As in large or big-headed? As in a little chubby/overweight.
minorty13 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 The thing I dislike the most about Butch Vig's production of 21CB was how Mike's bass licks got mixed so far into the background that you have to listen real hard to hear them. YES YES AND YES! I couldn't really pinpoint what was off about the album versions compared to the live versions and that was it! Haha that was going to bug me forever! Thank you! I don't think there's anything I can add... you summed it up completely!
Lauren Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 How for the past 2 albums it seems like Billie's a solo artist. I mean I watch videos and Mike used to talk SO much! Way more than Billie! Billie would just sing, and Mike would talk. I've never heard Mike's voice in person (except for harmony singing and Modern World)... and I've been to four concerts!
Maddy. Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 What Lauren said, is true. It's almost become the Billie Joe Show. And once I recall him saying there is no "I" in band. Okay, sure Billie.
lizziebix Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 As in a little chubby/overweight. Yeah, I agree. But he does have to sit down for this "job" and to practice. There is that to consider!
Eeefaa. Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 That they smoke. I dont know if they still do or not, but yeah... I have bad experiences with people who have smoked most of their lives. I dont want them to die. That would suck. That there is such a stigma attatched to their fans, too. i dislike Billie dying his hair blonde Ohhh, and their videos for this album. Actually, any album that wasnt AI. Bring Back Bayer. I agree with the above comments about how Mike gets shadowed by Billie and Tre. More Mike is good for us all

I wonder how much of this might be Warner's or their own PR people putting Billie Joe out there instead of all 3.
bollard_11 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 There is something that really annoys me about them, but I can't quite put my finger on it right now I will report back after some soul-searching
heartscollide Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Yeah, I agree. But he does have to sit down for this "job" and to practice. There is that to consider! Yeah, I'm not really like 'EW HES SO GROSSBSHAHANAB' I know it's quite easy to put on weight but really hard to get off and I'm really glad that he has started to lose some weight.

I mean, with the new tour that just started, they've been putting in a little variety, but still, it's not much. It's still the same routine, the same "hey-ohs", the same antics... I don't know. To me, it just gets a little old. I know a lot of people love it, and I realize that Green Day still puts on a great show, but it's not a very varying performance, to say the least.
Bastard of 1967 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 YES YES AND YES! I couldn't really pinpoint what was off about the album versions compared to the live versions and that was it! Haha that was going to bug me forever! Thank you! I don't think there's anything I can add... you summed it up completely! Thanks! Others (esp. Adam/crock6000 but his comments have been echoed by others as well) have noted that Butch's production also thinned out Billie's vocals. This personally doesn't bother me as much as the diminishing of Mike's bass does, but I wanted to note this for the record as it also impacts the studio vs. live sound that the band has now.
ifmemoryserves Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Yeah, I agree. But he does have to sit down for this "job" and to practice. There is that to consider! Drumming is still a lot of exercise though, when you're playing the type of stuff Tre's playing. Although I guess he's used to it by now.
blitzkriegdeb Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I don't really like the fact that 21st Century Breakdown was another concept album. When I first heard about it, I was just like "......again?" and whatnot. I don't know, to me it kind of killed some of the hype for the album. I like this thread, it's cool to read the responses. Hopefully no one gets all ho headed and starts an argument.

If someone starts an argument in this thread I'll shoot them in the face. lol jk, I just want this to be a serious discussion type of thread where not everyone is all lovey-dovey about Green Day

fadi_7 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 i can't think of anything that i don't like about them.....my love to green day is not normal at all it's so much big
Eeefaa. Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 No, this is a good thread Im interested in reading the responses.
heartscollide Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I agree with this also. But that's mostly arms and legs. It's his middle that has gotten rounder lately. It's all the beer
Ellenkc Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I miss being able to laugh at stuff in their albums. American Idiot had amusing moments but 21cb not so much. I know they're getting older/mature and all that crap but if you see them live they're always cracking jokes, but that didn't translate well onto the new album.
Nele Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 How for the past 2 albums it seems like Billie's a solo artist. I mean I watch videos and Mike used to talk SO much! Way more than Billie! Billie would just sing, and Mike would talk. I've never heard Mike's voice in person (except for harmony singing and Modern World)... and I've been to four concerts! This! I love Mike's voice and the fact that he and Billie would sing songs together for the first two albums. Now Billie's doing all the singing and Mike the oooh's and ahhh's in the background. And the bass-in-the-backgound thing also annoys me. The bass sound at some of the concerts was SO amazing! When you listen to the album it's barely there and if you can hear it clearly it's stuff like Last of the American Girls which is really simple. Come on Mike, we know that you can play, show it!
