Nele Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Well, you shouldn't be making your mind up from what a celebrity says. Watch the news (all the news stations!) and do research, read books, etc. Now you're saying something different than in your original post. You're acting like we just follow them around blindly believing everything they say and agree with everything. Nobody here does that since we're all smart enough do have our own opinion. (Well... now that I think about it.. not everyone, but the majority.) i REALLY cant think of one thing. i guess the only thing would be that the three of them are not available that billie joe, mike and tre are not single Yes, because we ALL know they'd totally date a 14 year old fan.
Coffee409 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 i wasnt there. went to the show in sacramento though. i know hes kinda cynical about oakland at times, but i think he does like it. he grew up here and they got into music from the local music scene in the east bay. he couldve moved a long time ago. Well.... Just like any major city, Oakland has it's pros and cons. He's always been an East Bay Punk though, and even if some day he moves, he always will be.
Ellenkc Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 After listening to the album today I really wish they'd play more of Warning. I know it didn't sell that well, but it's one of their more recent albums and they usually only play Minority.

November's Storms Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 And having Billie call Bush an asshole is bull shit. They could still tell you to think for yourself without saying shit like that. They do tell you to think for yourself. "Don't be blinded by the light in your eyes." "Fuck em all" to name some examples. They do give you their opinion but they don't tell you it has to be your opinion too. It happens that I despise George Bush too, but not because Green Day told me to. Because of the troubles he caused, the controversies surrounding his presidency and his clear lack of ability in the job, in my opinion. I'm sure there are GD fans who support Bush too. Everything about this era sucked HARD. The singles suck, the music videos suck, the promotion sucked, the band skipping ohio sucks and their tour management suck. The album wasnt that great either as I mentioned above. I was sooo hoping that this era would be better or the same as the American Idiot era was. Hopefully Green Day will be back on top again. SOOOO DISAPPOINTING!!!! I can't disagree with this strongly enough. The promotion was a little sucky alright. But there was nothing wrong with the album. Some of their best songwriting and music is on there! This era was one their most successful. The 21stCB world tour was their biggest and most profitable tour ever and 21stCB the album has been widely praised by music critics. Green Day are as much on top as they have ever been. From all the comments this thread gets about singles not being played etc, I'm guessing 21st CB was more popular in the UK and IRL? Not by album sales imo, but they get played quite a lot on radio and tv here. Well I'm in Dublin. I heard 21 Guns plenty and East Jesus Nowhere once, and that was it. Nothing of Know Your Enemy, 21st Century Breakdown or Last of the American Girls.
Anita_GD Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Well I'm in Dublin. I heard 21 Guns plenty and East Jesus Nowhere once, and that was it. Nothing of Know Your Enemy, 21st Century Breakdown or Last of the American Girls. This. I've never heard EJN or 21CB on the radio...they always play American Idiot or Holiday...nothing else....

Punk-tastic32 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 For my first Green Day show I had no clue what 1/2 the pre-AI songs were, I knew some of the more obvious ones but not a lot. So I don't really have a problem with this happening at concerts, because I know if they were as impressed with the show as I was they'll be buying every album they can get their hands on the day after That's what happened with me too! It's actually kinda cool, I prepared for the show thinking, they would only play stuff they were promoting. I knew a few older singles, but not that well. It's kinda fun to stop singing along and just listen to the music for a little bit. And it's Green Day, so of course you're gonna be impressed ..... Okay, this conversation is starting to get creepy. Agreed. After listening to the album today I really wish they'd play more of Warning. I know it didn't sell that well, but it's one of their more recent albums and they usually only play Minority. TRIPLE YES!
Anita_GD Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Everyone in Ireland is thinking Green Day are just this soppy emo band thanks to them! Don't get me started on that shit!! These 2 chavs in my year at school were playing this complete and utter dance music shit one day at lunch so I turned and said "heres some decent music" and played Warning on my phone and one of them said "Green Day yeah go slit your wrists" Not that I don't expect anything else from a narrow minded chav.
Ellenkc Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Well I'm in Dublin. I heard 21 Guns plenty and East Jesus Nowhere once, and that was it. Nothing of Know Your Enemy, 21st Century Breakdown or Last of the American Girls. Really? 21 Guns got played a lot yeah, but I've heard all the rest of them a few times as well, mostly on Red fm or Spin then again I'm not sure if you get them in Dublin.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I guess it just depends on what stations you listen to, how often you listen radio etc... I barely hear them on the radio, anyhow.
November's Storms Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I guess it just depends on what stations you listen to, how often you listen radio etc... I barely hear them on the radio, anyhow. It might have something to do with the fact that I barely every listen to the radio
Whatsername_21 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I guess it just depends on what stations you listen to, how often you listen radio etc... I barely hear them on the radio, anyhow. yeah where i live, there are no rock or alternative stations so i never hear them on the radio
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 It might have something to do with the fact that I barely every listen to the radio That could contribute to it, yes
NowhereBound Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Sometimes you gotta be harsh to be heard. If we all stayed quiet and didn't fight what we believed was wrong, the world would be even worse off. That is very true...I don't know, I can't explain it....I just think it's a little much sometimes is all....but they do have the right to express their views and I'm probably acting a bit closeminded...
Doris The Spider Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Everything about religion is opinion (what facts are there about religion? There's only what people think about and do with religion), and politics, a whole heap of it as well. It's always " *politician* said this, and this is blabla's reaction to that". And how do you look up both sides? By listening to people's opinions. Why? It's their opinion, if they want to call Bush an asshole, they're very much allowed to do so. Freedom of speech. I'm just curious, do you say the same about people saying Bush was a good president? I just don't see why it would be a bad thing to express your opinions. If no one would do that, we'd still be stuck in god knows what or where, because there would be no progress whatsoever. But why are you trying to change people's views on religion? As long as it's not hurting anyone, who cares? Politics are different, that is affecting the whole country so I can see why people would want to change other people's minds. And yeah, it is freedom of speech for them to say things about Bush but why tell the whole world? Calling him an asshole isn't going to change people's minds about anything. And I didn't see many people going around saying they thought Bush was a good president. And not because a lot people didn't like him. Unless they are defending him no one went around calling him a good president. People like Toby Keith, who gave their opinions about politics, were able to tell their side without bashing the other side. But he should have kept his mouth shut in the first place also. Since you can't stop people from doing that they should at least present facts instead of being a douche. I hate Obama but I don't go around calling him an asshole because it's ignorant. If I really wanted to bad mouth him I would find lies of his and expose them to people. I want people to open their eyes about him, but not enough people pay attention to the news. And if they do watch the news they are only seeing one side. If I come on here and tried to tell you Obama's lies everyone would ignore me or tell me why I'm wrong. But when a celebrity gives their opinion, everyone is all ears. Giving your opinions isn't a good way to change people's mind anyway. There ARE facts out there. You just have to look for them.

Politics are different, that is affecting the whole country so I can see why people would want to change other people's minds. You think religion doesn't hurt anybody, or doesn't affect the whole country??? Unfortunately, more and more religion and politics have been one with each other, and that's pretty shitty.
Doris The Spider Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 They do tell you to think for yourself. "Don't be blinded by the light in your eyes." "Fuck em all" to name some examples. They are people that liked Bush and Green Day. I was one of them. But young people are stupid. So, there are people that will believe what one of their celebrities.

But when a celebrity gives their opinion, everyone is all ears. Giving your opinions isn't a good way to change people's mind anyway. There ARE facts out there. You just have to look for them. Because some people's views on religion are definitely hurting people, and affecting the entire country as well. Affecting the entire world, actually. And yes, I care about that. Why tell the world? Because they think he is, and they want to share that. And I didn't mean the Bush is a good president thing literally, I meant that as in, would you also be all "Nooooo they're not allowed to tell the world!!" if someone shared a positive opinion about someone. I don't want to sound patronizing, but I think you should stop thinking that by saying for example that Bush is an asshole, that person says that with the goal to make everyone think Bush is an asshole. When I say I like a song, I don't say that because I want everyone in the whole wide world to like that song as well, I say it because I want the world to know I like that song. And it's bullshit that people only listen to celebrities, and if they do they're really stupid. And if you would go and tell Obama's lies here, people might disagree, yes, but if there wouldn't be discussions about things, the world would get nowhere. I don't know what those lies are, but let's pretend it's all true and something very important (I'm not saying that in a mocking tone...jsyk xD). If no one would speak up about that, Obama might do something utterly awful to the country, because no one has spoken up about it and said what those lies are and why they think Obama is an asshole. See now why it is, in fact, important that people share their opinions? (because lies often are at least partly subjective --> opinions)
mustlovedogs Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 To me, Green Day DEFINE perfect. Whatever they do or say or think is what perfect should look or sound like (in my opinion). So I love everything about them... Well. Maybe there is one thing... Their concert tickets are so DAMN expensive!! So yeah... The prices on the tickets drive me crazy but other than that I can't think of anything.

See now why it is, in fact, important that people share their opinions? (because lies often are at least partly subjective --> opinions) I don't mean to jump in on this conversation, but here's my opinion. All musicians, actors, etc. will share their opinions. It's natural. Because their voices are often heard louder than the everyday person's, people take it more seriously. But that doesn't mean that they should have to be careful what they say. I talk about politics every day in my house, and that's totally fine. Just because people MIGHT get offended by Green Day's opinions doesn't mean they should have to hide them. In my opinion, part of what makes Green Day and other "political" bands so great is the fact that they find things like politics and religion that get them worked up, and use them to write good songs. I don't have a problem with Green Day speaking out about Bush and the state of the nation because all in all, it's for the music. You don't have to agree with them. I agree with basically everything they say, but I don't take it too seriously. the most important part is that it helps them to write their songs. And while we're on the topic, every single president in history has lied. It's not just Bush or Obama. It's every one of them. Bush just lied a little bit more, so frankly I'm not shocked or upset that basically every democratic celebrity had something to say about him. So yeah. I agree with you.
