Nele Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I can't believe people on here don't like that Green Day are expressing their political views. They wright songs about everything that's on their minds and if that happens to be political, what's wrong with that?

Moffie Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I totally agree with all of this...I mean I'm not sure if we should shut up about it, but I personally think the guys express their political views a little too much sometimes and a little bit too harsh... Sometimes you gotta be harsh to be heard. If we all stayed quiet and didn't fight what we believed was wrong, the world would be even worse off.
Coffee409 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Sometimes you gotta be harsh to be heard. If we all stayed quiet and didn't fight what we believed was wrong, the world would be even worse off. Very well said.
Nele Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Punk rock and politics go hand in hand. That's what I'm thinking. ^^ Sometimes you gotta be harsh to be heard. If we all stayed quiet and didn't fight what we believed was wrong, the world would be even worse off. Exactly. I was trying to say that sometimes earlier but my English kinda failed.
Bubbles. Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 ahaha I loved that. Probably more because of the fact that we hadn't had GD news in yonks, then this appears Hah, I loved it too.
mandajane Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Silence is the enemy. exactly. how could you like green day but not like them stating their opinion about politics and everything so bodly? thats kinda what theyre known for. its also what punk rock is known for, and thats their roots. theyre expressing their opinion the way they see fit, and they have all the rights in the world to do that.
JoeMcHugh Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 It makes me cringe to hear someone use the word "retard" to refer to an unintelligent person. It's one of those slurs that I hope will go the way of many other unacceptable slurs with time and understanding. I hear people use it often; people who I would bet have thrown it out carelessly and really mean no harm, but I think it's a toxic term nonetheless. 'nuff said... 100% agree with you, a teacher at my school called a pupil that and everyone laughed, I wanted to knock the lazy bastard out. Back on topic - I agree with most people when they say Mike + Tre never get any mic time, whether that be at concerts or interviews. They just seem to sit there quietly because they know Billie will answer the question.
Doris The Spider Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Wow, I couldn't disagree with that more. I'm sorry, but if everyone just "shut up" then nothing would ever get done. I think its unfair to expect the guys to keep silent about their views when they are so passionate about them. that is the worst attitude you can ever have. ever. Question everything or be a victim of authority. How will things chang if people think that way? You have to raise your voice in order to do change things and make things work better. People who shut up will never get anywhere. Well, you shouldn't be making your mind up from what a celebrity says. Watch the news (all the news stations!) and do research, read books, etc.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Well, you shouldn't be making your mind up from what a celebrity says. Watch the news (all the news stations!) and do research, read books, etc. [Okay, your original post was that your mother says people shouldn't express their opinions about politics and religion or something like that, and that you think Green Day shouldn't do that so much. I just wanted to keep that in mind.] What does the news do, what do books and their authors do, what does every source you research do? Expressing their opinion about politics and religion. What's the difference between a celebrity and the news? It's all opinions. Green Day isn't telling you what you should think. They have their own opinions, and they share them, through their music or otherwise. However, they aren't telling you that that is what you should think, they are telling you to think for yourself. "Question everything, or shut up and be a victim of authority".
November's Storms Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I find their gardening tips to be quite useless. But hilarious! One thing I am getting a little disappointed about is the predictability of their live shows. They are fucking awesome, and have loved every one I have been to. But they do the same tricks, and practically the same setlist everytime give or take a song or two. Just a little more spontaneity would be great!
Izzard Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Sometimes I disagree with some of the things Billie says about religion. But I don't really find it offensive or anything, I believe in freedom of speech and individual beliefs. but I don't want to start reading or digging into everything I may see as negative in Green Day, I honestly don't see the good, or even a use in it but that's just me Interesting to see that a lot of the things people seem to not like about Green Day, too me, are what Green Day stand for or believe in But hilarious! Supermodel*Robot Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I'm really not a huge fan of their image. The whole eyeliner thing puts them in a category with a lot of shitty emo bands and so many people judge them on that before their music. Also, despite Billie being able to pull it off and looking rather dashing in his attire, there are many a gross 13 year old boy that I would turn my head from if they were dressed in such a way. It's just a really juvenile style, the whole black and red. I get what they were doing in AI, but the suits were spiffy. Now, he's wearing black and red striped skinnies and it just doesn't suit where they're at as people or musicians.
November's Storms Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 This. Well I mean for some parts of shows I can pretty much recite what he's gonna say..
Izzard Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Well I mean for some parts of shows I can pretty much recite what he's gonna say.. I know...it's kinda sad. But the shows are still hella fun!

Anita_GD Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I agree with wanting a bit more spontaneity It seems like all the shows are the same give or take a few songs like you guys said, but then the last show(s) of the tour they'll throw out the first song that comes their head! I mean look at the Mainz and Prague setlist!! They were insanely good compared to the rest of the tour! Last years U.S tour had some rare songs played at the last 2 shows like J.A.R, and Pasalaqua AFTER good riddance had ended! Thats the kinda stuff we'd all love to see.... And just one teeny thing that annoyed me at the europe shows I went to in June...how every night Billie would say "insert country they're playing in" is the "new home of green day" he said it eeeeeeevery night I was like...

st.idiot Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 well yea i mean i don't think theyre really isn't anything i don't like about green day. i mean theyre awesome all around (in my point of view) but i do think it would be awesome if they played a few more older songs or like songs they barely play like i would love to see j.a.r. or panic song or take back or bab's uvula who? just like a few more from insomniac or nimrod or shenanigans
Anita_GD Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 To be honest, we'd all just come off as bitchy people. No one wants to read pages describing what people don't like about them. No matter how justified it is. It was joke. 100%. I'd never want him to read any of this, we'd all come off as ungrateful assholes but i live in cali (not too far from the bay area) and its like are you ashamed of being from here or something?!!? wtfffff no home town love??? I guess its just that he wants to make all the fans at every show feel special...no fan is better than any other fan kinda thing, we're all equal
