Mrs. Nobody Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 It's not the band that does this, it's the fans that saw them in the UK Tour. When people talk about setlists in the US Tour, a lot of people who saw them in the UK talk about it like they're gloating when it comes to the setlist. Like, "Oh, they played this at almost every UK show." Yeah, that's great but it's the US and a lot of us didn't get to see those songs live. It just bothers me. If you're speaking about on here, I think most people assume that everyone reads the tour threads. Which not everyone does. I personally have no idea what they're playing in the US right now.
lizziebix Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I think if everyone stopped worrying about what songs were played at other shows and just enjoyed the songs they played at their show, a lot of people would be a lot happier. At the end of the day when you're actually there it's great whatever they play. I love knowing what they've played at other shows and hearing all about it because I find it interesting, and of course sometimes I think "ahh I would've loved to see that!". But I'm not gonna let that spoil my memory of the show I did go to. If that started happening I'd stop reading about other shows. I agree. Just stop worrying and/or comparing and enjoy. I admit to reading the tour threads to see what surprises they have come up with for other cities, but it never makes me jealous because I KNOW I saw a great show - whatever they played. And nothing, noone, or any new/other additions to the setlist will ever change that feeling.
Eighty. Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 The one thing i dont like about Green Day is that they dont come to england enough !!! What should I say living in Spain?

You're completely right, but I don't think there are a lot of people who really let it spoil their memories. Sure, I would have loved to see some songs and yes, I do get somewhat jealous sometimes, but it's not like I suddenly go all "oh no my show was shit because they didn't play that song" or have bad feelings towards Green Day or people who went to a show with rare songs. My memory of my own show isn't one bit less great just because at other shows they played or did something they didn't at my show.

LMC Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I think that Billie is a bit short. But other than that they're a great band.

Oh yeah totally, I don't mean to say I'm the only person who can handle hearing about other shows . I'm sure it's the same for most people on here. But I've definitely seen it where people do feel a bit bad when they compare their show to others and I think that's a shame. I suppose when you're reading everyone getting excited about a certain song that was played it's all too easy to feel that way if you think about it too much.

Oh no I didn't mean it like you said it that way, it was more because a lot of people seem to say that you shouldn't compare shows because you'll feel bad, while I think most people don't actually do feel bad about their own show, it only might seem that way. Although maybe it does happen, I can't look into other people's heads, obviously. This is a good thing. I can put him in my pocket and take him home. And he doesn't have to pay for planes or taxis, he can just hide in Tre's purse or something.
Coffee409 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Ehm sry but i went to the show in Mainz and i dont think Fuck time was planned or scripted ! Also every band member singing after each other during king for a day.....you think that was planned ? i dont because it took us a long time to convince Mike to sing...... Same in Dortmund last year.....Billie goofing around with security wasnt planned either as far as i know They are the most spontaneous band i've ever seen..... No offence but what you say is bullshit since it's not the same show as 5 years ago in any way.... Well don't take it from me...... I've only been seeing Green Day since '95. Guess I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.
Coffee409 Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I don't think so. They've been playing pretty much the same songs all the time, and their antics haven't changed. Of course, there'll be things that stand out at every show. Like what you mentioned but the show is still the same, mostly. There are just some things that they do differently as to make ONE thing to stand out. idk if this didn't make sense. This, exactly. The set lists change from show to show. And the set list isn't what I have a problem with. It's more the structure of the show. I can guarantee you that they're gonna come out and play about 45 minutes of new material. After that, they make the transition to a combination of older songs, while pulling people onstage for various songs (knowledge, longview, JOS, etc....) somebody gets to use the super soaker, then it's time to break out the TP blower/T-shirt gun, BJ is going to have some kid stage dive, and then they finish up with the older material. Now it's time for the encore, which usually consists of 3-5 songs, and then the second encore is BJ finishing up some acoustic. It was the same way last year, it was the same the year before that, it was the same for the AI tour, and it was the same in 2001... I mean, who here has ever seen BJ down a bottle of Boones in the middle of a song? Who has heard Mike talk about wearing a cock ring to the show? Who has been invited to the after party? I have, and it was in 1995.
Guest Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 ^sorry, they're never going to be the same band that they were in 1995, and that includes their concerts. they have such a huge catalogue of music to choose from now. i agree with whoever said that it would be impossible to change up their show every night. i don't give a shit what they play, they always put on a fucking amazing show. and i also think that compared to how some other bands tour, all the european countries get quite a few green day shows on each tour. you can't expect them to go over there all the time, not to sound rude, but they are from the US, they are a US based band, obviously they are going to play more shows over here.

I have, and it was in 1995. I understand what you're saying there and it must get a bit tedious but they have their way of working the crowd and playing a concert and if they want to stick to it then that's fine with me anyway...oh and Billie downed 2-3 pints of guinness at Marlay Park so that part hasn't disappeared, can't say much about the cock ring do Edit: Hermione posted a way better response to this above That's just the way it goes though, shows evolve slowly over the years. If you look at an Insomniac era show, it was very similar to a Dookie era show with just a few changes. A Warning show was simliar to a Nimrod show. Even the AI shows were remarkably similar to the Pop Disaster shows. Their antics/songs/banter have never changed dramatically in one go, their stage act is something that's developed gradually. When they started they created the best show they could, and they've gradually made it better and better over the years. In doing so they've created an amazing show and become the greatest live band out there. Getting the structure of the setlist right, keeping traditions going, making it all run together seamlessly - making it so every show of a tour is amazing is a very complex thing. It would be impossible to do that if they tried to change everything.
NowhereBound Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Wow, Maddy, good and thought-provoking topic......off the top of my head I can't say there's much *not* to like about 'em, but give me some time to think about it. Edit: Ok got a couple of items for you.... First, when the whole band does an interview together I'd like to see Mike and Tre get a little more mic time, and I'd like to see Tre *earn* that mic time by approaching the interview more seriously than he usually does. I know Billie is the frontman, and that in the interviews Mike plays the straight-man and Tre plays the clown, but Mike is really intelligent and often has a lot of good things to say. The skill and experience that Tre has, that justs busts outta him when he's playing live on stage, sometimes gets overshadowed when he goes goofy on us on camera. The other thing that comes to mind goes more toward what their next studio album might sound like. The thing I dislike the most about Butch Vig's production of 21CB was how Mike's bass licks got mixed so far into the background that you have to listen real hard to hear them. I think that's one of the reasons why 21CB's songs play so well live while they tend to go "meh..." on the album. Next album's gotta bring Mike back into the foreground again. All for now. I'll add more here if anything else comes to me in a dream or somethin'. I agree with absolutely everything you said...
mallorymaloney Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I think that Billie is a bit short. But other than that they're a great band. This pretty much sums up all of the posts in this thread, actually.
Kayfabe Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I agree with the Mike thing. When was the last time they made a song where the chorus was bass dominated like Longview, or even an awesome bass intro like No One Knows or Stuart and the Ave.
Rosie May Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 There's nor much that I don't like about Green Day, obviously, there's only small things. Sometimes I think Billie Joe can sound kind of ignorant when he says things like "now that the retard's out of office" about George Bush, and "all those conservitave assholes." I just think it's a bit much, it just comes across kind of narrow minded. I don't think he is closeminded, but when he says things like that I just cringe. It's the same as someone who doesn't agree with Green day's opinions calling them assholes because of it.
AdelineGrenades Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 There's not much I don't like, but I'd like to hear Mike sing more on the album. I mean, I love Billie's lyrics/voice and everything, but I think some of the coolest songs they've done as of late are collabs like Homecoming and American Eulogy. If they did more of those, I think I'd be pretty cool, and it'd put the rest of the band in the spotlight a bit more. I honestly don't think if you mentioned Green Day to a group of people who don't listen to Green Day regularly, Mike or Tre would be the first two people to come to their mind. As much as it's Billie's band, it's their band too, and I'd love to see them have a bit more vocals on the albums. And I kinda hate how a lot of people don't take Tre seriously. I was watching an interview the other day, and had to go back a few times to realize that Tre can actually come up with an intellectual answer when he really wants to. As much as I love him being psychotic during interviews (and hey, maybe it's just his nervous habit like Billie's is his 'y'knows'), I'd love to see a more deep in thought Tre who answers a lot more questions.
NickD Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 i don't like how they've sorta started to become an image/style and kinda followed an image/style for the past few years, especially during the American Idiot era. but my biggest thing is that now during the choruses to virtually all of their songs is that it's either just billie singing or it's bllie and everyone singing. i really miss when mike sand the backup to the entire choruses.\ but those are such small things, i can't really argue, as i'm a lifer
Doris The Spider Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 That they express their political and religious views. My mother always told me to never talk politics or religion with anyone. Just let people believe what they want and shut up. And that Mike's bass is hard to hear in songs now. I loved the heavy basslines in the early days.
GenerationZer0 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I think that they can kind of come off as assholes at times. Not really like specific things they say or anything but just sometimes it seems like they do. But I still love them.
