What are things about Green Day that you don't like?

I think this rant is more about the fans:

I don't like how people compare setlists. When the band is putting together their tour, they put together a basic setlist and that list of songs gets played most often. But then people are always asking for rarities or changes or the differences between shows and condeming those that didn't get anything but the basic setlist.

But that basic setlist is phenomenal. That's why they put it together to begin with. So what? Maybe this show or that one didn't get any or all the extras, but it certainly wasn't a bad setlist. In fact, it was a great setlist and we should all be happy for every fan at that show that got to hear every one of those songs live - whatever they are. We should just be happy for our fellow fans for the enjoyment they got out of hearing and seeing their favorite band. Not condemn them for not getting anything, as you describe it, "extra."

This isn't geared towards any one individual at all. Just a generalization of how the tour threads tend to read. And personally I do not care if you want to rant at me that rarities or extras, etc, etc, blab, blab blab, are this or that or whatever - this just my opinion and I will not debate it.

Am I the only one who doesn't like that fact that Billie says "the second night is always better than the first", whenever they play two dates at the same venue? e.g. BIAB, the O2, MSG. Obviously some nights of the tour are going to be better than others which is usually not on purpose but this seems almost intentional as Billie will always the second night is better. Meaning if you are a fan going on the first night you've paid the same price as people going the next night, who will get a better show e.g. a bigger and better set list, which I 'spose isn't really fair on the fans.

I think this has to do with hype, or crowed pleasing more than anything.... Every show I have been to BJ claims "this is the best show of the tour, the best crowed yet"

I'm pretty sure it's something he says at most of the shows.

I know that it partly has to do with the hype, I've also heard him say that at the shows I've been too shows where he has said that as well, I just think this is good evidence to support my point

tbh in my opionion this is harsh. when a band tours they put on the same show thats whats it's supposed to be its the same show that tours and to say its annoying that they dont change a set on the same tour seems dumb to me because if they kept playing that set in the same place i'd see your point but there not there touring with that show and when they launch there next tour it will be an enteirly different show.

have you ever heard of punctuation?

The band does so much in every live show and puts so much into it, it irks me to hear people complain about it being the same all the time. If it weren't for people looking online you wouldn't even know that they have a routine anyway.

It doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I look online and see that the show last night was the same as the show two weeks ago... It has more to do that I GO to a show and it was (basically) the same show I saw 5 years ago........ As far as the "banter" goes, at least. But as I said from the get-go, it's STILL the BEST live show in the business. I just wish it was a little less scripted and a little more spontaneous.

BTW I'm not moaning about Green Day changing the set list frequently, I actually really like the fact they do that, it puts them apart from most other bands, I just don't like them having a significantly bigger set list one night than the next. But they still are the best live show out there.

I don't give a shit what the setlist is, I feel blessed to be seeing them live. Whether they play old songs or new songs, I really don't care. I'm getting to see them in their prime environment and that's all that matters for me.

I really can't stand the whole Network thing. Their music sucks, the whole costume thing is lame, and the fact that they're still trying to play it off as "oh it's not us lulz" is pretty dumb at this point.

There's not much that jumps to my mind right now. Except for one thing, tho.

I know It's mentioned a few times before in this thread, but I just feel like mentioning it again. You know, as much as I admire, appreciate and look-up to Billie Joe, sometimes I just can't stand he gets 99 procent of all the attention they get. I'm not only talking about him being the only one talking in interviews, or him always being in front in every picture. But it's just.. I don't know. I'm looking foreward to the moment that everybody's going to accept that Green Day = Green Day. And not only Billie Joe. And.. o yeah some drummer dude and a bassist.

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely not blaming Billie Joe for it. I'm not specifically blaming anyone for this. And I'm also not saying that everybody thinks about Green Day like this. I just feel bad for Mike and Tré for some reason. Ofcourse Billie Joe's the one that has written most of the lyrics, and who's written an album that now is one bad ass musical. But I just want Tré and Mike to have as much acceptance as Billie Joe does, from everyone. (Especially in the media, sometimes they only invite Billie Joe for interviews now, 'cause they're only intrested in him. I mean, come on!) Drumms and bass count as well, hell yeah they do. And I'm convinced Tré and Mike have put as much effort in the albums as Billie Joe has.

I'm quiting now, otherwise I'm going to get all emotional over it. Nope, just kiddin'

Neh, I just want you guys to get my point, I'm sure there are people out there who think about this the same way as I do.

Cool idea :D

I don't like it when they just disappear of the `radar` I know they like to be private and everything, but it's frustrating when they mention a new video/single etc. then nothing. And the fact they don't give official dates for things until like the week before it's released =/

Yeah I feel the same way =)

I mean, setlist wise my first show was as normal as um, their normal setlist. But still one of the best concerts I've ever been too, and I had so so much fun. But it is ever so slightly fustrating when the next day they pull out some rarely played songs. (I would have loved to have heard AE for example)

But yeah, I'll keep away from the tour threads next tour :P

That's a pretty good idea for a topic, Maddy!

Hmm, let me think about it. I totally agree with the thing that Mike should get his beautiful bass lines back after they were slowly vanishing from American Idiot, to now. I was going to mention the eyeliner thing but it seems that they stopped that for now. Hmm, that's actually a quite hard topic, Maddy. xD

I'll think about that and I might add something later. :)

also when playing live they tend to focus more on the fans in the pit at the very front, unless that was jsut at wembly, if it is every gig then sorry but some of us have jobs that we have to hold and cant stay outside the venue for 3 days straight

I always think they make a big effort to involve everyone. They do the best they can do by having singalongs, call and response and "heyyyy ohhh"s, the t-shirt gun, and just by making the show as spectacular, lively, and interactive as possible. I can't imagine what more they could do really! Of course it's even more enjoyable if you're closer but that's just the way it is, there's nothing anyone can do about that.

Yeah, I'm not bothered about rare songs and stuff like that, they can play anything and I'm more than happy. But when I was at the first night at the O2 last year and Billie said "see you tomorrow night!" it didn't exactly feel great knowing I wouldn't be there. Apparently he was talking about the Foxboro Hot Tubs playing afterwards at the Wembley Arena show last year too........must've been nice for all the people who knew they couldn't get there because the tubes weren't running or were too young to go! Obviously it isn't intentional though, it's just part of the hype of the show. But maybe sometimes he should just keep his mouth shut :D about the next night.

Ummmmm, yeah... They stopped that a long time ago.

Yea, I was at that gig as well at The O2 when he said that and felt the same as you, plus I was only 17 then so couldn't get into the FBHT gig, so I was hoping they would do another tubbies gig when in the summer stadium leg.

that's another about Green Day... NEED MOAR FBHT GIGS IN ENGLAND!!

Yep I was at the FBHT gig and I couldn't agree more. More FBHT gigs everywhere please :D

Yeah more FHT gigs!

Other than that, not a lot annoys me really ... that wouldn't be nitpicking. It'd be nice to be kept a bit more in the know during their down times, and I don't mean anything major, just the odd "Hi, hello" type thing so we know they're still alive. XD

Im not joking they do like 5 shows in england a tour :(

They only do one show in a fuckload of other countries. They don't come AT ALL to a whole bunch of other countries, or only once in a blue moon. Seriously, together with the US, England/the UK gets by far the most Green Day stuff out of all countries, both in terms of numbers of shows as well as things like radio/tv shows, contests etc.

Dude, they only do Canada like two or three times when they're touring --- You should be grateful they stop by for so long over the pond!

Also, some of the other posts in this thread make me rage seriously hard. Not gonna call each and every person out, because then it'd just be me 'starting a fight' or whatever, but I gotta say ... Some of you guys need to drop the insanely judgemental attitude, stat.

Geez.

Ehm, wtf. The USA get's the most touring dates but after that it's definitely England and the rest of the UK and it's not even a big country! I live in Germany and we got 5 touring dates the first, 3 the second tour and I'm so glad about that. I mean what do you expect? This tour they play in some countries that never got a date before, that's way more important then another UK date.

That's more than enough, c'mon face it, England isn't even that big. Some people have had to travel miles to get to a sho
