pasalaska Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I found this: "While recording demos in Southern California, Green Day purchased a pirate radio transmitter and started broadcasting under the call letters KCUF. Vig, Green Day, and engineer Chris Dugan created playlists, recorded fake station IDs (“Listen to Rebel Radio KCUF!”), and flipped the switch. The bonus for unsuspecting Orange County commuters was hearing new Green Day material, live and unfiltered. Later, the band inserted bits of the pirate broadcasts into the final mix. The compressed, crunchy sections in “Christian’s Inferno,” “East Jesus Nowhere,” “¡Viva La Gloria!,” “Before the Lobotomy,” and “Last of the American Girls” are straight from KCUF." http://www.eqmag.com/article/green-day-simple/jul-09/97443 Exciting! I've read this before! I don't wanna start the rumours, but what if...? ooooooooooooooooooooooooh here's hoping someone records anything that may possibly get transmitted. not that I'm getting excited over this...
Disapperingirl Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Wow new tweet!! anyway I found that: "REBEL RADIO While recording demos in Southern California, Green Day purchased a pirate radio transmitter and started broadcasting under the call letters KCUF. Vig, Green Day, and engineer Chris Dugan created playlists, recorded fake station IDs (Listen to Rebel Radio KCUF!), and flipped the switch. The bonus for unsuspecting Orange County commuters was hearing new Green Day material, live and unfiltered. Later, the band inserted bits of the pirate broadcasts into the final mix. The compressed, crunchy sections in Christians Inferno, East Jesus Nowhere, ¡Viva La Gloria!, Before the Lobotomy, and Last of the American Girls are straight from KCUF. The band tried setting up the transmitter at their house in Los Feliz, Vig adds, but we werent getting a signal, so we turned up the power. It blew out all the power on the block! The next day, we found a note on the door from the FCC saying, Maybe you should cease and desist before you get into any trouble. So we shut it down. Mhmm... ok we posted the same thing ..wtf, why I didn't now about this radio station?!?

Holy shit it's that! Now I remember, there was even a photo of Mike in a Rebel Radio shirt at the time. Who lives near there and has a radio?!
Punk-tastic32 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Ohmaigawd. Someone needs to record this radio station 24/7.
Sanity Loan Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 As soon as I saw the tweet, I knew exactly what it was and thought, "Holy crap... new songs already?" But didn't they get in trouble for this last time?
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 That sounds quite cool! I am surprised I am the only one so far who remembered the Rebel Radio thing (shirt, pirate radio station). It was the first thing I thought of, haha.
farley drexel hatcher Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 so anyone here live in orange county? haha
pasalaska Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 KCUF mirror FUCK I can't believe I didn't notice this...
Undómiel Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 What does this mean? Who gets this radio station? Who's going to record it? And why just in the Orange County? And why did they get into trouble for it before? So many questions thrown up by one tweet.
GTI Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I remember this! I believe 99.7 was the frequency they used last time. It was on one of the first videos they put out leading to 21st Century Breakdown
jon18 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 In my opinion, Green Day are in studio recording a new album.
oda Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 And why did they get into trouble for it before? “The band tried setting up the transmitter at their house in Los Feliz,” Vig adds, “but we weren’t getting a signal, so we turned up the power. So they started doing that around 7-8 months before 21stCB? I remember everyone making fun of Jason Freeze for not being able to get pictures on his phone lol
