VanVan Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I have been super pumped for my concert on the 9th since I found out how much old stuff theyre playing. Yeah, I like their 'new sound' just fine but nothing can compare to their early work and I definitely like it MUCH better. As far as them actually going back to it completely, Im not sure if I really see that happening

I see it more as some happy medium between old and new that sounds good.
fadi_7 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 i think 21CB is better than the others don't know why people hate it i love 21CB
Sanity Loan Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 OK, you are right, but as a mod, you wanna tam your outrage down a little bit there?.......... Does that help calm your outrage or reading comprehension? Example one of why I hate commenting here sometimes. Sigh. My outrage? I did not have an outrage. Sorry for making it seem like that
GDM Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 My outrage? I did not have an outrage. Sorry for making it seem like that No worries. But it did seem pretty outraged.
Sanity Loan Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 No worries. But it did seem pretty outraged. Haha well my "outrage" was towards MTV... not you
Guest Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I think they will try to mix old and new Green Day into the next album. I think it all started with Rock Band. i remember reading somewhere about how they listened to the older songs and hearing little things that you would not usually hear on CD, MP3 etc. I also remember hearing that Dookie was one of the most requested albums on Rock Band so that will most likely lead to a more punk sound but never think of it as going back cos with Green Day they always find a way to move forwards I hope so!
AfterShock Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I love the fact Billie has gone oldskool with his looks. I've missed oldskool Green Day! ...Did you read the posts literally right above you?
BreakdownBrit Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 ...Did you read the posts literally right above you? Yes...yes I did! I just wanted to throw my opinion out there thats all!
AfterShock Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Yes...yes I did! I just wanted to throw my opinion out there thats all! Alright, I just didn't understand why you said how Billie's looks were old school when 2 comments above you it was exlpained how the only difference was his hair color
Guest Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 personally...i wouldnt say that i like either the newer stuff or the older stuff better. i love it all, and i really don't prefer one album over another. there are certain songs on every album that i just don't listen to, not just on american idiot or 21cb. and i think people are reading into them playing old songs too much - they've been playing older songs more because they know that's what a lot of people want to see at their concerts. i don't think it really means going back to their roots, and they won't ever make another album that sounds like their earlier stuff.
BreakdownBrit Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I'm really looking forward to hearing what they're gonna do with the next album. I recon if they get to the place they were in during the Warning era that would be pretty awesome. They lost their grit AI and 21CB eras, (avoiding the words sell out coz its not fucking true) hopefully they'll drag some of the old fun back into their music, they lost a lot of their fun... I'm sure though, whatever we end up getting from the Gods of Punk Rock, it will be damn awesome.
st.idiot Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 i was at that camden show and it was awesome to hear new stuff as well as old. to be honest they don't have to go back to their roots because they're doing better than when they were playing in '94. but i think theyre trying to connect with their older fans and true fans who love their older stuff (like me). if they were truley going back to their roots they would play more songs off of kerplunk and 1039 smoothed out slappy hours.
Vespertine Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Sometimes I think it'd be great if they made another album like Nimrod or Dookie. But I don't have any preferences, tbh. I think it's good to change and we all know Green Day is always in constant change.
Shaekwon Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I'm gonna be the shallow guy here and just say idc what they do as long as it doesn't suck.
1039slappygirl Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I became a fan of Green Day 4 years ago, almost 2 years after American Idiot came out. You know, when I first saw the AI video at MTV, I thought they were just another happy punk band out there. Then I listened to the song better and the other singles and I realized how special they are, so I started downloading their older songs and after that buying their CD's. So I can't say the old songs remind me of when I first listened to Green Day. Brain Stew is the first song I ever heard from them, but that happened when I was just 6 and I didn't care about the band who played it. Sure I'll get excited if I ever get to watch them live playing Burnout, Christie Road and other old songs I really like, but I think I love that songs as much as I love the newest. I'm glad Tré said that, 'cause now I know there's a chance for me to listen the classics if I go to a concert. It doesn't really matter to me which songs they play, I'd love the experience anyways, tho. And Billie's hair, he looks awesome either way, too Sorry if this was too long
JohannaRaeRamone. Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Well, see the awesome thing about Green Day is regardless of what we think they'll do whatever the hell they feel like! I agree that they have been shifting towards awknowledging the old stuff again, which is awesome. I mean I don't want them to regress but I feel so cheated on missing out on 90s Green Day. I think maybe when AI came out they felt worn out on "old school Green Day" and how they couldn't really do much with it anymore, so they found something new and focused on it. Now they know they can endure and have an amazing career so they're looking back and proud of it. Haha but enough psychoanalyzing the band, I am happy enough seeing Billies hair blonde.
Metanoia Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 i'd hope so. another rock opera would be really boring to be honest. if they still decide to do one i#d have a look if i like it though but i'd prefer if they now (for the next album) would either try out something completly new or do some faster,punk-isher stuff
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 I absolutely adore the setlists from this tour. They have been absolutely fucking amazing because of all the old and rare songs they've been playing. I thought my show in Hartford had an incredible setlist, but then I saw the ones that happened after, and I gotta say- I'm mildly jealous of the people that were at them. Especially the one in Montreal with Platypus. OH SHIT! XD Last leg of the tour was more about the 21st CB songs, and doing the whole new album thing. This time- all bets are off, and they could play... anything. That's what's so great about this tour. Everyone comes out satisfied. You want newer stuff? They play it. You want older stuff? They play it. They just do everything, and it makes for one fucking amazing show. At Hartford, when they played FOD, Dominated Love Slave, JAR, and 2000 Light Years away, I could actually hear people yelling "Did that really just fucking happen?!" and I gotta say, I echoed their sentiments. Seeing Green Day this time around is like... no words can describe it.
dawn71 Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Green Day has never lost their roots they have just grown deeper!!
swarheely Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 i don't think they'll be going backwards, but i do feel like its gonna be a more straightforward record, no concept this time, simply because i feel like the fun of foxboro and playing sooo much of their old stuff on tour right now and exploring all those songs again i think is gonna bring out something really special, i'm gonna love whatever they put out, but i could use a break from the concept personally haha, i love the concept stuff but to go 3 in a row.. wait a couple albums, when a truly awesome idea comes up again, go for another concept ya kno, as much as i lovve 21stcb the concept wasnt nearly as strong as american idiot
The Platypus! Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I think they wont go back to their old style , yes they're playing aload of old songs at concerts but i think it's just they're glad they made those songs but they wont go back to them.
