I don't know if I'm crazy, but on the vinyl version of this song I hear muffled talking during the beginning of the Nobody Likes You part, like noise from a TV or something. I can't hear it at all if I'm listening to it on CD or digitally. Haha.

This song is great, i love how it's so diverse and changes every 30 seconds. it's like if i wanted to listen to Green Day and i wanted a fast, slow, medium, and funny song...i listen to this haha

one of the best songs on American Idiot. I want to hear this live so bad.

This song is all about the double meanings that American Idiot is about. And it's epic. Double win.

I started fuckin' running,

Just as soon as my feet touch ground,

We're back in the barrio,

But to you and me, that's jingletown

That's my favourite part of this song.

Definitely my favourite Green Day song overall :D I saw them for the American Idiot tour and they did perform it, but I barely remember that show because it was so long ago and I didn't even know any album tracks prior to the concert :(

The Death of St. Jimmy is my favourite "section" of the song lyrically but I think Rock N' Roll Girlfriend is the most fun to sing along with

As with JoS too, I love that each part is like a song within a song, if that makes sense. They mesh together so well and flow, but could definitely stand alone as... I suppose interludes.

oh wow. This is my all time favourite Green Day song.

I love the changes

The lyrics

The fact that each member wrote a part..

It is just such an amazing song and its helped me throgh so much

I love Homecoming!!!!

Just because I think no one has mentioned it yet...this is the new GDC Collab song! Join in, join in, all!

and yay great song but I don't have time to type something like that out now :)

I can totally picture that too. Like, Billie and Tre skipped recording/jamming to throw bread at ducks without Mike.

I REALLY like this song. I love Tre's part in it.

Great song! one of their best...and longest :D ..but i was just wondering......what inspired this song?

From interviews with the band, the kernel of the song was the "Nobody Likes You" part that Mike wrote. Apparently, the three guys were all in the studio one day working on some ideas, then Billie and Tre both had to leave -- Billie to complete some stuff for his DUI probation, and Tre to sign the divorce papers that dissolved his last marriage. So poor Mikey was left all alone in the studio, and somewhere along the line his little autobiographical piece came to mind and he wrote it down. When Billie and Tre got back to the studio, they liked it and each tacked on their own piece -- Billie with East 12th Street (Jesus filling out paperwork now...) and Tre with Rock & Roll Girlfriend ("I've got a rock'n'roll girlfriend/And another ex-wife"). They apparently already had the American Idiot title track in their arsenal, and built the rest of the storyline around that -- who is the American Idiot, and how did he end up like this? Much of the rest of the album evidently stemmed from there. Great story.

Woo nice post! I knew some of that, but not the details (why Billie and Tre had to leave and going with that, which lyrics had to do with that). :D

I love this song. I've always liked it better than Jesus of Suburbia for some reason. It just seems more... epic? XD

I adore this song. This is the one song above all others I want to see live.

Its a really good song. I like it that Tre sings Rock n' Roll Girlfriend.

With Letterbomb being the climax (in my opinion) Homecoming just fits it's title, it's going back to how it all began, I LOVE this song!

green day rox...homecoming rox....BJA is my GOD!

One thing I love about this song personally is the great variety within it. There are so many songs within the one song, each standing alone, and yet all together, they have a cohesive message. There are moments of heart-stopping beauty, intense rage, and even (for me) just good fun here and there.

I totally agree.

This is a song I'd love to hear live!

great song...highlight: Trè's part!
