Happy Emo Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I was told that my Green Day allegiance would be just a phase and one day I would move on to "better music" I disagree however lol. I'm all for differing tastes in music. But for me, it's GD all the way. Luckily, my mum likes Green Day so it's not an issue having it on at our house
Holly Ann Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I've never really had that problem. Well, my dad was like 'This time next year you won't even be thinking about Green Day.' It's that time this year right now and where am I? It's not a phrase, I love Green Day forever now. No questions. (:
Mrs.Kerplunk Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 well after 6 years my family still think its a "phase" . they dont get it and they probably never will. they dont understand how much i love green day, how much they mean to me and that i will love them til i fucking die. its kinda pissing me off. ohh well, this remindes me of a fight me and my dad had like 2 days ago. at the end of it he was just like "those 3 idiots from california are the only thing you care about. care about your own life" - "so yeah, no dad. green day is a big, bigggg part of my life but its not everything i care about." like i said, they dont get it.
in_your_face Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 My parents think it's a phase, they just don't say it in front of me this.
sara_gd Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 WHY?! WHAT AM I LIKE WHEN I'M ANGRY. I'M NEVER ANGRY!! ALWAYS HAPPY!!! I actually don't know what my mum thinks about it... *goes to ask her* "Everything has a beginning and and end, you can still like their music when you grow up but you'll not be as obsessive as you are now". I've only been a fan for 2 years, so I suppose she'll realize in a few years.
VivaLaRosalee Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 my parents were right about my My Chemical Romance phase and my Nightmare Before Christmas Phase but they're wrong about the Green Day one.
Rosie May Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I get the feeling my parents think it's a phase but I kind of works to my advantage because they want me to get them most out of them now (like merchandise and going to shows and stuff) before I grow out of them and don't care anymore. Technically it probably is a phase, but it's five years and counting, certainly the longest phase I've ever had so far if it is one.
PunkRocks and Coke Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 yeah the first 2 or 3 years of my obsession love for the guys my parents said that but now I guess they see how much I really like this band and my love is not going any where any time soon.
Vespertine Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Well, for some people it is a phase. I've had phases. Seven years ago I used to listen to Rap music. Nowadays, I hate it. It really depends on a lot of things. I don't think Green Day is phase for me, but who knows what it will be like 15 years from now? Does it matter anyway? What really matters is that I love them now. And since I've become a fan of Green Day, my love for them hasn't changed at all.
saraHsunshine Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I hate when people use "phase" in a negative way. I mean, I go through phases, we all do. However, when someone says, "oh that was just your stupid [insert word here] phase" it gets old fast. The other day I made some silly comment about the girls at the camp where I work having stupid music taste (they are between 6 and 15) and my best friend was like, "when you were that age you liked Green Day, so you can't talk." I was like "WTF? I still like Green Day thank you very much"
Penguin Puffball Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I think my parents used to think Green Day was just a phase for me, when I first got into middle school and finally bought an album of theirs. But I still love them now, 6 years after first hearing them
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I don't think they ever said it was a phase...about anything, really. Although I do think they used to think it was. Or maybe they still do. Oh well. As long as they don't say it to me, it isn't bothering me. No, actually it is, because whenever I want to buy like, vinyl or something, they go all 'it's useless and you can't listen it and you'll grow out of it anyway!!!!!!!!!!!'. Which is why I'm still stuck with only CD's and posters.

musse Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I know my mom used to wish Green Day was just a phase for me... Pretty sure she's lost all hope by now. And some of my friends think I'm really weird because I don't change my favourite band every week (like they do) but they don't really expect me to get over the Green Day Phase. They know me better than that. So no, I don't think this is a phase. Maybe when I'm 60 I won't be that much into GD anymore, but I grew up listening to that band and I'll never be able to just get fed up with Green Day and walk away.
petros Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I've been listening to green day for like five years but my parents still think that Green Day is just a phase for me...I dont know why they cant at last understand that green day are something more than just a stupid phase for me.
Kaddi. Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 My ex-best friend used to be like that... we got into huge fights over Green Day all the time, because he was always like "Yeah, this is just a phase, I know what I'm talking about since I'm older than you. This band it shit, you should listen to some better music instead" He really made me angry, because he always acted as if I was a little child. I don't talk to him that often anymore, but we sometimes still fight about it, because he just doesn't respect how much I like Green Day.
Kayfabe Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Not just my parents, lul. My friends and peers are always like 'when are you gonna get bored of them? Don't you ever get bored listening to the same songs over and over?" No :eyebrow:
Holly Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Start of 2005 I was begging my parents to let me go to Milton Keynes over and over again but they told me it was just a phase and that by June I wouldn't like them anymore. I have never let them forget that. My friends think I'm ridiculous and that I'm stuck in some twelve year old's obsession, they tell me to grow up. The other day I told a couple of them about the fact I'm going to be getting a Green Day tattoo when I turn eighteen and they went crazy at me. They said it is stupid to get a tattoo of a band that I'm going to grow out of. I told them that stupid would be getting a tattoo of a boyfriend's name of a husband's because things like that can change but somehow I know my love for Green Day never will.
Katarina. Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Pretty much everyone in my family yeah.. They think I'm going through this Green Day phase or something. They said the same at school. I think it was around 2009 that someone in my class said: "What's that, you have a Green Day pencase/shirt/wristband? Isn't that more for 2004 since it's all over now?" I just ignore all that, cause I know it's not a phase. <3
poisonoak Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 some of my friends do think so, cuz i went through several other musician phases before, but not for green day, they are for life!
z5warrior Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 My parents never really say anything, but I'm pretty sure they're thinking it. I've love their music from all of their albums, and since there are so many of them, I don't think I'll ever grow out of them.
Smoothed Out Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Omg people always say that to me even though it's been over a year, the longest I've ever been `into` anything. They just can't accept I have actually discovered who I am and what I like, really annoys me. Especially when they start comparing me to other people who were `N-Dubz biggest fan for two minutes` or something wtf?!
