Just Kate Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 my mom has Shoplifter as a ringtone but it doesn't stop my parents from thinking i'm crazy
Conspiracy. Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 My brother thinks their music isn't ~good because they have a lot of simple 3 chord songs.
Moffie Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 My family encourages it! My mom and brothers like them so it just works out for me.
jensername Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Yea, my parents also thought that me liking Green Day was a mere "phase". Oh, how I proved them wrong lol. Years later, I still find them to be the best band that has ever walked this earth. A lot of my friends really do not understand why I'm so "obsessed with Green Day". I only really have one friend who likes them as much as I do. Other than that, others usually find them to be mediocre. They just don't see or hear what I do when it comes to Green Day.
Whatsername1911 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Pretty much everyone I know has shitty tastes in music, except one girl from my school. I've seen her at shows before, and she's probably on GDC and I just don't know about it. Annnnnd my parents tell me I'm going to be a groupie.
SweetChildren_ Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 It was the same for me, my parents also thought it was a phase. That I would stop listening to GD after a while. But I haven't, so I guess they've gotten used to it by now.
rinu Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 They know I love them but they haven't say anything good or bad about Green Day.
Polly1987 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Like genuinely hates them? How heartbreaking. Yes! He doesn't like there music but he accept the situation. I'm since 2004 a fan of Green Day and since 2004 we are together....
Juliette Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 My brother suggested I turn my walkin wardrobe into a Green Day shrine...
clairemarie Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Yes! He doesn't like there music but he accept the situation. I'm since 2004 a fan of Green Day and since 2004 we are together.... Aw, well thats cool that he loves you enough to be able to accept it and not judge you on it or anything.
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 My friends always give me a bday card with the dirtiest photos of billie....
St3veHimself Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Lately it hasn't been great for me as a fan since I went to the concert. At the concerts you can really see the energy these guys give and Billie Joe has been my hero and idol for quite some time. After the concert, I admired him 100x more. I want to play music in sold out arenas for a living and I look up to Billie Joe as my #1 influence. Now, some of my friends have noticed this and started questioning my as turning gay. It's weird. Now my closest friends know who I am and have told them I am not gay, but I just wish people would understand that Billie is my greatest influence on life. I wouldn't care if regular people in mall or something thought I was gay, but when my friends started questioning it, I was confused. I do notice many females on this forum lol, but I'm sure everyone here understands where I'm coming from.
ANJI Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 None of my friends/family like Green Day or even interested in rock music but a few of my friends think im too obsessed with them I dragged my mum and my cousin along to the GD shows i went to cos i had no-one to go with...and they enjoyed it but i asked if they would come again...and the answer was no

Yeah I really understand where you're coming from, when I say Billie is my hero everyone thinks I only like Green Day because I think he's sexy or something, but actually I can see that he's a really good looking bloke but I don't personally want to lick him or anything. He's just amazing and happens to be the guy I look up to. The only person I know who understands how much I like Green Day is my mum haha, she likes them as much as I do but everyone else I know thinks we're idiots and that we're wasting money going to all the shows and collecting GD stuff. My auntie tried to voodoo me at the second night in Birmingham last year. I actually got pulled out and had to go back to the hotel. Bad on the people that are never going to have our Green Day experiences
Velocity Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 I was talking to my friend online earlier. This is the kind of stuff I get from my friends all the time me: i need a job. i spent so much on Green Day this year Allison: OMFG. no. just kick the addiction Allison: and srsly THEY ARE NOT WORTH YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. just had to say me: YES THEY ARE Allison: they are already FILTHY EFFING RICH. and not that awesome. me: THAT'S NOT THE POINT Allison: DO NOT understand blowing your $ of these things me: what, concerts? ummmm Seriously the haters need to GTFO. This is a big part of my life. My friends need to accept this. They suck.
lizziebix Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 I can't remember if I've said this before or not - but they all think I'm crazy. Too old to be acting like a fangirl. BUT I DON'T CARE!! The band and their music make me very happy.
euphoric-pareidolias Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 my parents are usually indifferent to the fact...although any time someone says something like gd related -name a song, specific lyrics- in general convo, as an automatic response i say Green Day!! and now my parents get pissed cos anything they say, i find a way to gd relate it!
Nele Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 My friends don't really mind. They like a few Gd songs and listen when I talk about concerts I went to. Sometimes they'll tell me to shut up but that's ok, I really talk too much about them from time to time.

(well, that's true ) but sometimes they say that my behaviour is ridiculous.. they just don't understand what it means to love one band like i do.
RocketPower Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 My friends are so fantastic, they got me into Green Day! (Long story) A solid majority of them dig Green Day and have a song or two of theirs on their iPods. A few of my friends are just like "WTF? Green Day? Those dudes with eyeliner? Hell NO!" but they really and truely don't mind them as much as they mind other musicians. Even all my "hardcore" guy friends have them on their iPods! It's like "Slipknot...Megadeath...GREEN DAY". But don't tell anyone My dad thinks they're awesome though. (However he thought American Idiot was their first album) So does my bro. It's pretty solid...
Karen. Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Family: my brother constantly rips the piss and says that they are crap, not because he actually thinks so, just because I like them so much. This is a daily occurance and really annoying. He also constantly slags what he calls "The Green Day Community Blog". My parents are totally oblivious but they would hate and disapprove of the swearing, the tattoos, the eyeliner, the decibel level...need I go on? Friends: those that are aware of my committed interest in the band think I am crazy. I get a lot of "omg, you're obsessed". As for my other set of friends...last year I dragged them to karaoke for fun. I said that the night had to end with the song "Time of Your Life". (I knew calling it Good Riddance would be pointless.)My best friend asked if that was the song from Dirty Dancing? It hurt. Physically.
euphoric-pareidolias Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 same! my mom is sometimes getting so annoyed when i mention them for the 100th time during one day but she knows that i just love them. and my friends.. all of them agree that i'm obsessed. (well, that's true ) but sometimes they say that my behaviour is ridiculous.. they just don't understand what it means to love one band like i do. hahahaha yeah, same here again. only one of my friends love green day and the rest of our group know that if we are in deep convo, we cannot be interrupted as we are talking about gd and freak lol! and then about loving one band.. my friends love so many ppl (justin bieber to taylor swift to some other band and all) whereas for me, its only Green Day and i dont listen to anything else!
alligunn86 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 man, i really hate it when people sit there and hate on people for liking green day, reading all these stories made me pissed, they can GTF... I do get crap too, and lots of people just sit there and say green day is shit or the very popular "green day sucks now, their old stuff is so much better" and all that shit. and the worst part is, lots of those people only know just some singles so it makes me made when they sit there and make that statement. but as for my actual friends, they aren't super into green day but they dont sit there and tell me they suck or I need to stop being so addicted. They make jokes and shit, but it is all in good fun. They get it, as much as they can ha. And my siblings just laugh and say its cool, and im just really obsessed. In fact, I went to go visit my sister and had her go see green day and she thought it was awesome. And my parents just kinda support whatever im into. My mom loves them, but I think its just cause I do ha. If ya know how that goes.. its cool though.
Burnout98 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 My family and friends hate green day...except for the ones that i've converted... they tease me about liking green day and they say you should listen to other music other than them. But i don't care, i love green day and nothing will change that. They can go listen to their crappy little pop bands who they think are "cool". But they will never learn that punk has always and will always be the best genre music in history.
Miss Hedgie Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 My dad hates them. Well all my musical choices. But I don't care. I love Green Day.
