My friend is a professional singer. i sent her the lyrics to paper lanterns and she liked the lyrics a lot but when she heard the song she couldn't stand billies voice! I love his voice more than anything in the world because it's so raw but also clean at the same time. his voice has become something i could recognize anywhere now and her saying that it wasn't good broke my heart. But i don't think shes into the whole punk rock stuff. I asked if she would want to come to a concert with me, i told her it would be sweaty and smushed and AWESOME. she said 'no thanks...'. i just became a total greenday fan maybe 8 months ago so I just finished my sort transition if you will. my friend accepts me for liking them so much and having changed (she likes the new me) and i accept her for liking the music she does. Thats what green day has taught me, to accept people for the way they are but don't let their opinions about you affect your opinions about yourself. if that makes any sense at all.

The opionions of the people around me are very different.

My mom's the one who understands it the most, because she saw them live, too, and I guess that's the reason for that. So she's kind of in it and I can talk about them and everything GD related with her, but it doesn't have such an importance for her. It's just like she's the last one getting irritated, you know? My dad's only ' I can't hear it anymore and I don't support you going to another show'. My boyfriend hasn't a problem with them in general, but at the moment he doesn't wanna hear anything that reminds him of them, because he said it's too much for him and yeah, like my dad. I'm trying not to talk about them that much if he's in the same room which isn't that easy, because a lot of things I'm talking about are GD related in any way ;)

Other people and my friends don't understand things like travelling for them, but they accept it. That's great, I guess. They do think I'm kind of freaky, but it's ok for them.

My dad liked them when he first heard When I come Around on the radio when the song was new, and he's loved them since and going to their show a couple weeks ago he said it was the best live show he's ever seen besides TSO (He's seen a ton of bands live since he used to be a dj and just went to shows everywhere whne he was a teen/young adult (he's in his fifties now)). My mom liked a couple of there songs until she went to their concert a couple weeks ago, now she wants to see them again. My friends don't really know I like Green Day but they like some of their songs too. It's not a huge obssesion with them but they like them none the less.

Why does everyone posting on here seem to seem to be (somewhat) alone in their fan-dom?

My friends all think they're "eh," "overrated," "sell-outs," or "ew! green day?"

And people wonder why I get so squeamish about telling people what bands I like.

THIS.

I never like to tell people that my favourite band is Green Day.

It's so weird how there's so many of us fans, but not that many fans know other fans.

Almost every one of my friends besides 2 of them think Green Day is gay. But i don't give in.

yes.

or it's like there's one designated fan in every town, but only one.

like i know others exist, but i still can't find any.

YAY FOR GDC! :woot:

you don't know how happy this makes me right now.

yeah. it's like we've been blessed so greatly by the awesomeness that is Green Day we have to be punished by not knowing anyone else like ourselves. Such is the way of the world.

YAY FOR GDC indeed! :woot:

annoying as it is, there is a tad of sense to it.

i mean, if I knew more fans, then i would have a lot more friends, and i wouldn't be able to relate to all their songs about alienation and stuff.

but damn, does it still suck. :pinch:

I feel like when I tell people I like green day I get judged?

My friends think it's cool, but they think my obsession is unhealthy. I think that a little obsession can be a good thing, if you know what i mean. My family used think i was insane also, but ever since i convinced them to go to the concert with me they've kind of understood me more. Now they think I'm just partially insane instead of totally insane.

That's very true.

It would be so nice if I could have somepne to obsess with, though :/

I feel like when I tell people I like green day I get judged?

Same here.

But if Green Day has taught me anything, it's "its a free for all, Fuck em all, you are your own sight!"

So now I show my love for the greatest band ever more freely and fuck anyone who's gonna judge/hate.

:D

My parents when I first started liking them thought they were some band I was just obsessed with and would get over fast. Yeah, I was a lot more obsessed when I was younger.... but things have really changed. My dad has only heard Good Riddance and likes it. He's watched their music videos with me... didn't really say much. As for my mom, I've finally made her a mix and she likes them. But as she says, she likes their 'soft music'. :P As for my older sister, I don't think she really likes them, she's never told me but, she's the reason why I fell for them in the first place (she had them on her iPod... without her knowledge her bf put GD on there...)

As for my friends, when I first started getting into Green Day, my friends helped encourage it more, since they were Green Day fans... but i was just like three of us... and the rest of our class hated them. And throughout HS not many people liked them... and I was the GD Girl... But now in college, it doesn't really matter. No one says anything, but then again we're all classical music majors... it's funny. I am getting my friends into GD a little at a time. But it's cool though if they don't, I have a lot of you guys from GDC and elsewhere on the internet :)

Everybody calls me obsessed.. My mother doesn't like Green Day, she thinks it's too loud, my dad hasn't got a problem with them - he even likes some songs like BOBD. My friends think Green Day is okay, though they don't really listen to it - in fact, two of my friends are very strange, they don't listen to any music. And one of my friends also sometimes listens to Green Day.

Family -- My mom likes all of their songs that are played on the radio and has seen them live before, so she "gets" my obsession more than anyone else. My grandma has also seen them live, and although she "couldn't understand a word they said", she still considers it one of the best concerts she's seen and thinks Mike has a nice ass. My dad thought the whole thing was just a phase I was going through and can't believe that I still like them. As for my extended family, they all either don't care about music or listen to country. I just never bring it up around them.

Friends -- Really only one of my friends knows that I love GD...and she hates them with a passion. Strangely, though, she won't tell me why. During my one summer class, I was talking with my teacher about music and told her that they are my all time favorite band. Another girl in the class overheard me and since then won't let me live it down. She keeps telling me how much they suck, how she only listened to Dookie, and how all the 8-10 yr. olds she teaches loves them. She's a total music snob who only likes unknown bands that play small venues (her and her husband were HUGE Kings of Leon fans, but since they've gained popularity, they hate them). She's in her 30s and acts like a jealous little child.

THIS. I generally don't go around advertising that I'm a fan, because I seem to get judged for it.

To be honest I don't think any of my friends care...and I'm fine with that. If they want to listen to horrible music that's fine! There is only like 2 of my friends who like green day, but not as much as I do. But my dad is happy that I don't listen to the crappy music that goes around today, and my mom she always helps me look for green day merch so I guess she's fine with it!---so that deserves a happy face -----> :D

Pretty sure it's to the point where EVERYONE I know KNOWS Taylor = Green Day

But I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. Haha. I talk to this one radio DJ all the time and it's pretty funny because I posted the video- of Jimmy Fallon impersonating Billie Joe at the Emmys -on his facebook wall. And he commented saying "I KNEW you would like that!" and I asked him if when he saw it live on tv if he was like "Taylor!!!" And he said "Honestly, yes." Hahaha.

I'm so happy I found this post because I'm currently frustrated at my best friend because of such a reason. She texted me asking how the concert was and I was telling her how extremely amazing it was an how even though we had lawn tickets and couldnt see much, I felt as though Billie was singing to me alone, and how it was the best day of my life, etc. So she said something along the lines of "Jeez, calm down. I'm glad you had fun though." But this wasn't the upsetting part. I then asked her what she had been doing this weekend and she said she went to look at cars and she wants a mini cooper. Now, I personally don't understand such and appeal and I said "Ew, a mini cooper? Why? I'm sorry I just don't understand." She could have simple stated why she liked it, but instead she comes back at me with "It's cool. I think the same thing about Green Day." Well thanks a million for that, after telling you how amazing I think they are. I explained to her how it's completely different and how if you actually listened to them, you would understand. A car and a band are two different things. But no, she says, It's not different. "I have Green Day music, you've never been in a mini cooper." Actually I have driven in one and the only two songs she has are American Idiot and Brain Stew, cause I stuck it on a mix I gave to her and she hasn't even listened to it! You can not say you don't understand why people like them if you haven't even tried. Honest to god, you have no fucking idea what they mean to me, but you could care less.

So basically, my best friend thinks they're shit and can't even fathom my love for this band, not even in the slightest. It's quit irritating. I apologize for the rambling. A tad pissed at the moment. =/

I have a couple friends that are just the average fans, they only know and like their singles. My dad went and saw them with me and he enjoyed it and he is 55 so I am quite proud of him! My mom thinks they're ok, but she does think Billie Joe is cute. My sister just flat out hates them, but she listens to rap music only. Thankfully my cousin is a big GD fan and know a lot about the band so I can talk to him about Green Day.

My best friend knows about Green Day being my favorite band and she's really cool about it. I re-converted her (she used to be a fan in the early 90's, but stopped liking them because of how they insulted thier fans at shows and stuff). She was screwed after she got to know me better and found out about my fondness for Green Day. She has since gone to two shows with me (I drug her to Tacoma for the Pop Disaster Tour... ah, memories. lol.) and is now re-converted. My other friends know they are my favorite band are are cool with that, we really don't discuss Green Day that much, if at all.

My parents and relatives are really cool with it. My dad has gone with me to every Green Day show and likes them (we've been to at least one show for every album since Insomniac). Infact yesterday when my dad and I took the dog to get a bath, ironically BOBD just started playing on the radio in the place. My dad was like "this is one of my favorite songs by them". My mom likes them too and even went with my dad and I to Seattle last year to see them. They had so much fun and were talking about the concert for about a week after we had returned home. I have one relative who calls me "Green Day girl", and she wants to go with me the next time I go and see Green Day (she's really cool and likes going to punk rock shows and is a big music fan), which will probably be for the next album. My aunt has even called me a few times when Green Day were going to be on Television.

Always when I say anything about Green Day my friends reactions are like "oh noeees this crab again.."

So yes, my friends are very understanding

Everybody thinks I'm like attracted to Billie Joe and madly in love with him. wtf, no.

Okay Billie is HO AS HELL but god dammit no I'm not like in love or something.

I admire him and green day because they make the best music and are so inspiring and funny and stuff.. you know :)

One friend likes to listen music with me from my headphones and usually we listen Green Day, ofc. She is nice and understands me however she says she don't like green day much, but still I think she likes the most East Jesus Nowhere and Viva La Gloria... And she told me that she loves my dookie-shirt which is huge improvement.

..Well she still think Tré is sick because of Rat Does Cheese and All by myself...

My family is ok with it, luckily

I don't get nasty annoying comments from them.
