OverjoyedAndroid Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 My family is pretty supportive of my Green Day obsession. My sister talks about them like she knows everything about them, but when I ask her how old they are she freezes up. She's pretty annoying. Anyways, my friends are OK with them, but a couple of them are always like "Green Day sucks!" but I find them listening to Green Day and singing along. They won't admit it, though, and force me to listen to Lady Gaga and crap like that when we're hanging out. Kids in my school hate me. There are like 2 Green Day fans in the school and I'm one of them. Just one other reason to hate school. Oh well...
BreakdownBrit Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Well mum got me into Green Day so she's cool with it. When I went to see my Godparents they were shocked at how much I've changed. I used to be all little sweet girl who used to turn up to church on a sunday with a pretty dress on (the fact mum literally had to force it on me was a different matter!), and a long blonde platt of hair. I turned up to their place to stay with them with black short spiky hair, loads of tattoos, peircings, heavy black eye make-up, black nails, a Green Day hoodie and t-shirt and a pair of dirty blue jeans with many, many rips in them. The LOOK on their faces were priceless. LOL! Yeah that was a huge shock for them...but they were like, "Oh so who is this Green Day on your hoodie?" so then I had to go through the whole fave band thing and I had to say the awkwardest thing ever. "What's your favourite album of theirs?" "Ummm...*mumbles tittle*" "Sorry didn't catch that, my hearings going." "Umm...my favourite album is Dookie." : so yeah that was awkward...but they were very nice about it. They even recognized Good Riddence because someone sang it at a wedding at the church LOL!
GenerationZer0 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 My best friend thinks that I'm crazy for liking Green Day. And my family thinks that it's a bit.... strange. Basically everyone thinks that it's weird that I listen to Green Day/other good music instead of whatever is played 700 times a day on the radio.
BreakdownBrit Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I love being in a Minority, I'm the only through and through Green Day fan in this TOWN (as far as I know) and people in the town call me Green Day kid because I wear my Green Day hoodie EVERYWHERE lol.
GenerationZer0 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I love being in a Minority, I'm the only through and through Green Day fan in this TOWN (as far as I know) and people in the town call me Green Day kid because I wear my Green Day hoodie EVERYWHERE lol. I WANNA BE THE MINORITY! I DON'T NEED YOUR AUTHORITY! Ahem. I'm sorry, but that was necessary. Also epic win as the Green Day kid!
MCC Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Eh, my parents are a lost cause, they are stuck in the 70's music era but they don't hate them. My Dad likes that they spoke out against Bush but that is the extenet of his GD knowledge. My sister calls them the "Anti-American Communist Bastards" all bc of American Idiot. She refuses to listen to the entire album or even attempt to dig into the lyrics in order to see that she is, in fact, wrong. She's the lone Republican and Bush supporter in the sea of Democrats that is my family so she is just being close minded IMO. My husband likes Green Day but they are not his favorite band or anything. He is supportive but lately is tired of hearing my countdown to the Dallas show everyday. He says I play so much GD that he isn't even going to want to hear them live at the show. I don't know about anyone else but when I feel the need to "get away" from the hardships in life, I turn on their music and feel better instantly.
minorty13 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 My grandpa loves Billie Joe for his politics Parents don't mind, friends the same One of my friends heard I was a fanatic and is trying to set me up with a fellow fan haha. We'll see how that goes
Shenangirls Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 My family, as usual, thought it was a phase I was going through. My mum and sister (who I live with) try and get me to listen to Eminem and Lady GaGa ALL the time. I don't think they have accepted the fact that I don't like mainstream anymore and would rather listen to the Sex Pistols!! My friends used to look at me funny everytime I said I loved Green Day. But lately they've been asking me for albums! It's really weird, but hey, at least i'm spreading the Green Day love around!
ihaveapenisbitch! Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I don't think any of them really care, they just leave me to it.
♥PunkKitty♥ Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 My dad was glad when I started liking Green Day, since he loves music and I wasn't into any bands before that. Because of me he ended up listening to a bunch of songs and seemed to start liking them more and more. Now he's going to take me to a concert. He isn't really a "fan", but he does like them. His favorite song from them is Restless Heart Syndrome. One day I had him listen to the song because I felt like it fit what I was going through at the time, and he said he understood after he heard the song. He isn't big on the loud "head banging" songs like "Horseshoes and Handgrenades", though. As for my mom, she likes some of the songs. I think "Basket Case" is her favorite. She doesn't really care too much, anyway. My two nine year old brothers don't really care, I think, but one of them said he loved the Dookie album. My friends like some of the songs, but aren't really "fans". Since they're awesome, they don't care that I like it as much as I do.
PeaceMucker Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 My friends and family have just accepted my obsession. I took my mom, dad, uncles and grandma to a Green Day show in Sacramento last August, they loved it. One of the most satisfying feelings is converting someone who initially "hated" Green Day into a fan.
UnderClassHero Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 My family is pretty supportive of my Green Day obsession. My sister talks about them like she knows everything about them, but when I ask her how old they are she freezes up. She's pretty annoying. There are like 2 Green Day fans in the school and I'm one of them. Just one other reason to hate school. Oh well... whoa.. are you sure we don't go to the same school?!!? lmao, sounds a lot like mine ^_^
Holly Ann Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 My family don't mind at all. They like them too. We're some of the lucky minorities that have good taste in music. Freinds... are just dicks. 'Eminem is a LEGEND!!!' My ass.
iwroteholdencaulfield! Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 they think i have a trauma My family, as usual, thought it was a phase I was going through. Rachel Nimrod Armstrong Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 My dad and one of brothers doen :lol:t mind me liking Green Day, cause they got me into them lol! But my mum says i am to addicted to them and she says i need to see a shrink cause she thinks it's a problem lol! and she says they are taking over the house lol! My friends all make fun of me liking them lol! they all say i should start listening to another band and they are like "we are gonna steal Green Day from you" lol!! and i turned my obssesive Avenged Sevenfold friend into a Green Day fan!! YAY!!
Vrock09 Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 My dad thinks it's still a "phase" even tho I've loved them for six years now...going on seven. My mom doesnt care too much, but I listen to them so goddamn much, she already knows some of the songs.. I have made my three sisters fans, one of which is almost as big as a fan as me....at times more My friends all kinda got into GD the same time I did, they still like them, but not like I do
st.idiot Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 my sister and brother both like green day but not like i do but they have both been to one of their concerts. My sister used to like them more than she does but she and my brother like their earlier stuff rather than stuff after A.I. My parents like green day too and my dad almost came to their concert with me and my bro. my mom loves billie's songs for adrienne and thinks he's really good and loves green day's sound and thinks it's unique. so yea my family doesnt really care how much i like green day because they know im obsessed with music anyway so yea its awesome!!
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 My first group of friends (or well, mostly used-to-be-friends, I barely see most of them anymore ) are okay with it, they don't really care that much. Two of them have been with me to Green Day as well, and they liked them. They like a couple of songs (they don't know more than a couple of songs, either) but they're not big fans. My other friends know a bunch of songs of theirs, they like them somewhat but not big time. They think Jesus of Suburbia is a really good song I don't really talk about Green Day outside of the internet, it's just not much of a subject. I'm also the only fan out of all my friends, so there's no need to start talking about them. My friends' reactions to my blogs about the gigs were generall 'aww it's sweet you care so much about them/that song'. So I guess it's that. They know I'm a fan, and that's just it. My family uses it as any excuse to tease me. In any context they might use something like 'at least I'm not obsessed like you are with Green Day', or they'll compare something. They don't hate them though, and I keep it low-key so they aren't bothered by it. My dad likes them and he has been to two concerts of them with me, my mom doesn't like most of their songs but it's just whatever, my one sister likes them, and my youngest sister doesn't really like them, I think. I caught her singing Little Girl though she said it was because I play it on Rock Band 'all the time', but still, she was singing it! No one apart from them peeps on GDC know how obsessed big of a fan I am, though
OverjoyedAndroid Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I just had a flashback. I was at school, and it was lunchtime. They let you listen to "school appropriate music" at lunchtime, and throughout the room Justin Bieber was playing. I finally had enough. I went up to the boombox and changed the CD. Now Muse, Green Day, Foxboro Hottubs, and Linkin Park were playing. As soon as I sat down the sixth grade girls went to war with me. They said that the stuff I listen to is not real music, that it's for boys. I told them to listen to the lyrics in a Green Day song and compare it to a Justin Bieber song and tell me Green Day isn't real music. They never talked to me again. One girl even apologized! Go me!
Annie, get your gun Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I don't know what they think, and I don't care either!!! Well, maybe I KNOW they don't like Green Day at all, but it's just because they don't like what they don't know. Everyone in my family has their own music taste (which sometimes I think it sucks!) and I'm ok with that. The only thing I hate is that sometimes I have to endure a lot of shit, 'cause it's evident that these people don't know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT GOOD MUSIC!!! (stupid ignorant assholes!) But like I said, it's ok, because I'm ready to say my prayers, light a fire and start a war, because... GREEN DAY IS BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
keefe Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 That Green Day is 'gay' and 'mainstream', i just say who gives a fuck, good music is good music!
Mrs.Kerplunk Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 my friends always make fun of me for loving them, well not everyone.. i got some friends into green day but my dad thinks that i'm too obsessed. pssh aha
Krusties Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 my friends know that i love them, but they kind of make fun of me for being so "obsessed."
LittleAnchovy Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 My friends are used to my "obsession" yet they still regularly make comments along the lines of them being "lame" and "a teen band". My mother has always amused me with her judgmental remarks regarding the band as a sort of lighthearted disapproval of them. Everytime she see's a recent picture she claims that: Mike has aged another 10 years, they have a new drummer and that Billie "obviously has angry little man syndrome". subtly has never been her strong point
