She doesnt know much of their music other than singles ect, but she what shes knows, she loves. Also, she admitted that their concert was the only one she had ever seen to actually be better than Bob Marlay, which she previously branded the "Best" live. I do annoy her with my Green Day talk and stuff, but she understands and is happy i am passionate about something My little brother now adores them also, to the point he is catching up with me. It started off with him just wanting to be cool, but now they are all he listens to My Friends on the other hand, are a completly different story. Not one of them likes Green Day, or anything else other than radio pop for that matter. They dont seem to realise that they actually have not taste, they just listen to whats deemed to be acceptable at the time. Whenever i bring up green day, all they ever do is roll their eyes, and say "cooool" sarcasticly or something. But what REEEEALLY does my head in is that i often have to put up with listening to them talking about Justin Beiber and people off the X factor. Basically, they are fools
Silverlight Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I dont think my parents care, my mum likes their music and she thinks Billie is cute my dad is "meh" about them. He'll listen to them, only 'cause he has too (anyway, he likes metal). Only one of my friends really like them, but my friend Sarah is beginning to get into them, I dont want her to get in to them... I used to like boring her with my obsession... other than that, I am know as Green Day lover at school and no one gives a shit about my obsession.

That's actually how I got into them. We used to drive round in his car together and he'd suddenly throw on International Superhits, and I thought it was the coolest thing My Mum really doesn't mind that I like them. Whenever she see's me watching them on youtube or listening to them she'll say "Oh, that's the young guy with the gorgeous hair, isn't it?"

They're like "You're gonna get bored with them eventually, why do you listen to them all the time?" - Er coz it makes me happy!! It might have been classed as a phase when i first started liking them but i think 10 years is a long time to be going through a phase! Most of my friends on the other hand love me for liking Green Day coz they get dragged along to their gigs with me! (not that they complain) and i have managed to get the one friend i have who doesn't like Green Day, listening to Green Day...he loves them now! My job is done haha!

They think that I spend way too much money on buying their records or buying concert tickets. My family is a bit more supportive, because they all listen to GD's music, and I went with my parents to the GD shows. They still think that I'm obsessed with them and music in general. Fuck yes. I am. And I'm proud of it! But I prefer the term 'passion'.
Ellenkc Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Most of my closest friends like Green Day, only two listen to every album and they're the ones I go to concerts with, the rest listen to 21CB, AI and a few singles but i'm slowly turning one of them into a punk fan, she's been listening to The Bouncing Souls alot recently. Then there's another friend who finds them scary and claims they're screamo She liked 21 guns until she saw the video and figured out who it was. She's not exactly a rock fan. My parents both like them, my Dad more so becasue he's more into music in general and my mom listens to them but wouldn't listen to a full album. I'm not sure if my brother hates them or just likes annoying me, but either way he insults them fairly often his favorite one is 'You'll grow out of them', although he was completly pwned a few weeks ago when my 26 year old cousin started talking to us about them and said Basketcase changed his life, he's a cool guy he brings me to gigs all the time

Anything that can be as good for you as Green Day can't be that bad for you, huh? Yeah, it is an obsession, but as one of my heroes once said, "There's nothin' wrong with me, this is how I'm supposed to be".

My dad has liked Green Day since Dookie and always says that Mike is a good bassist and Tre is weird. My mom likes their slower songs like Give Me Novacaine and Macy's Day Parade.

It's just a joke, but a slightly irritating one. One of my cousins believes they are corporate sell outs and really does not like them, though im yet to find out whether its the actual band she dislikes or just the fact that I love them. I did take my cousins to their shows in December and they loved it but they are hardly fans. I don't really care either way. I know how amazing they are.

I don't care though, if I had to queue for a week to get at the front, I probably would!! =D

What irritates me alot is she says stuff like 'they write all these political songs but they're really corporate/successful/all that major label crap. She's basically saying that major label bands or bands that earn alot of money can't write songs with political or challenging messages. If that were to be so, what a crap world we would be living in.
VivaLaRosalee Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 friends: its weird, because once i start liking something, all of my friends start loving it. its almost like im an influence. i've turned SOOOO many people in my school into big green day fans. between playing green day rock band with them, seeing american idiot, and going to concerts. i barley every get made fun of, except for these 3 assholes in my grade. whatever. they love me liking green day parents: my dad and my mom love green day. my dad bought me tickets to the green day show august 3rd in camden, new jersey and saw it with my friend Christina and i. my mom bought us tickets to see american idiot for her, my friend Livvy and I. and we always jam out in the car when green day is on. they love me liking green day brothers: my 2 brothers hate green day SOOOOO much. they are the biggest green day haters i have ever seen. they cant stand it and constinatly put me down for being a fan. they always talk about gay they are and they suck and sellouts blah blah blah.... they dread me liking green day

However, my best friend was the one that turned me on to Green Day, and I love her for that. My dad thinks their crazy but love the live show when he brought me. My nephew is so, cute. He loves Green Day almost as much as me. Unfortunately I did not know this so I didn't get to bring him to the concert with me when Green Day came to Georgia in 09, and now they're coming around again and it's the first day of school for him. He was so sad (me too since I can't go either). I'm actually teaching him to play Time of Your Life. He says Billie Joe inspired him to play guitar

My mother doesn't like the band, too. My father hates them. He always says that Green Day makes "headache music". My sister, she is 10 years old finds Green Day quite well. She isn't a real fan, but what she knows she finds good. But she still has no real taste in music...she hears Charts.
SixtiesJunkiie Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 My dad actually likes Green Day (he's not totally ecstatic about their music, but he thinks they are talented and sound good.) I'd say about a quarter of my friends also like Green Day and the rest are either 'eh' or don't like them at all. I have a really eclectic collection of sounds (from classical to punk to pop-rock to classic rock, and the list goes on and on.) But Green Day is one of the few modern bands that I really do enjoy listening to. I can't stand a lot of the stuff they play on the radio these days (Lady Gaga might have a cool taste in fashion but I think she's done enough in the world of music.)
UnderClassHero Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 well everyone at my college are such justin bieber feet-lickers and they think i'm weird for liking a band that is "rock". in rare cases where some don't like pop, they like techno instead which is just as worse.. ekk. they mock me and criticize it, and i used to argue back, but now i know they'll never get it into their thick skulls. too bad they will never have the joy of finding out and relating to such an awesome, amazing band. PROUD TO BE A GREEN DAY FAN!!
