What do friends and family think of you liking GD

Exactly. I mean, they're not the best at mixing up setlists and they do play a lot of the same songs every night (this excludes Prague and Mainz!!) but they can pull it off. They make it so interesting and mind blowing every single time so it never ever feels boring or old.

And it's harder for huge arena/stadium popular bands to vary their setlists. At the end of the day they need to fill those arenas so they will always have to play songs that most people want to hear. i.e. the singles.

(although I can't imagine being able to follow a tour like American Idiot because that was pretty much the exact same songs every single night with the same things said in between!)

Yeah the reason they play most of the same songs every night is because not everyone is a diehard fan like us. Some people only like there hits. But they do different things at each show. They don't just stand up there and play. Longview is different at every show even though they play it at every show, and sometimes people throw funny things on stage. People who aren't die hard fans never understand. My life revolves around this band. Without them I'd be nothing. My parents even have said "The world doesn't revolve around Green Day."

I've been a fanatic since '94... I've been addicted and never looked back. Like most, in the beginning my parents thought it was a phase and didn't pay too much attention. I can remember that by the time Warning came out, they had all accepted that it was nearly my religion. When I was 16, my mother and I listened to Dookie together on a roadtrip and I recall her turning to me and saying that she heard so much of who I was as a person in their words. Then a few years back when I got the Rage&Love tattoo below, my grandmother asked my mother why I got that tattoo, and with no other explanation of "it has to do with Green Day", she accepted it fully and without question, knowing that it was simply a part of my life. In fact now my wife and family look at it from an optimistic point of view... for example when holidays and birthdays come around, they never have to worry; anything involving Green Day will always make for perfect gifts. From autographed guitars to a GD poker chip, I love it all.

My peers? I went through ridicule, as Green Day fell out of popular culture after Nimrod and so people of course questioned why I was still into them. I've remained a die-hard the whole time through and now people don't even question. Everyone knows that it is a part of who I am. I am a supervisor at my job, where I've worked for 8 years, and as much as I remain as a professional, I still have the Green Day action figures on my desk. The President of the entire company doesn't even question it, because it is me. I recently had an award added to my personell HR profile and they decided to make it the Green Day award, as circumstances last year led to me missing their concert, and they related my hard work and dedication to how severe it was in my world to have to miss that show.

It's just awesomeness... my world with Green Day.

My best friend got me into Green Day in middle school although I liked some of their older stuff before I even knew who they were. So my closer friends love them but some of my other friends aren't too fond of them and think I am crazy for liking them. My mom loves them and she thinks Billie Joe is sexy, she has loved them since I was born. My grandfather hates that I like them and thinks most music is garbage. My grandma loves Billies voice and will listen to them sometimes, so she is ok with me liking them.

Some of my family don't really care for Green Day and they think I should find another band to "worship" but the rest of them think Green Day are ok. Thank god my mama loves them :D

My family...well my brother thinks I'm a bit weird, my mom likes a few of their songs, but doesn't really understand having them as a favorite band, and my dad is cool with it, he will even let me listen to my cd's whenever we are in the car together and record any shows that he sees have them on it for me.

My friends all have different views. Some of my friends really dislike Green Day...and tell me I have bad music tastes :P then I have some friends who like Green Day, but only the typical stuff from American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. One of my friends used to think that American Idiot was their old music until I told them about Green Day's other cd's, which they didn't like....

I think my parents wonder why I care so much, but I mean, my mom loves listening to Green Day, so whatever.

I only have a couple of friends that like Green Day (they're not huge fans though) most of them are into r&b and dance...which really sucks when I have to sit in their car for an hour listening to Lady Gaga and such =/ My mum's been a fan for years too though, and my boyfriend loves them so that's cool :)

My parents think it's some teenage phase and they are constantly asking me "Don't you get bored of them?" ,"Haven't you found another "obsession"? "

I tell them that I listen to a lot of other bands/musicians but Green Day will always be my favourite band.

As for my friends, they are ok with them. My best friend even likes a few songs, which is pretty cool considering that she listens to pop and R&B music ( her fovourites are Walking Contradiction, Holiday and The Grouch  ) and I found myself talking about a lot of Green Day-related stuff, so she doesn't really have much of a choise :P But she never makes fun of them or me liking them so.. yeah she is great.

My brother, on the other hand, is always joking about Green Day but that's only because he is my brother and therefore his obligation is to be a pain in the ass  But since I caught him humming BOBD I'm pretty sure he likes them at least a bit. So yeah, dear World, I love Green Day, deal with it.

My mom is ok with the fact that I love Green Day but she's not into them and that kind of music at all. My dad thinks their music is cool but he doesn't listen to it. Only when it comes on the radio, especially KYE. When it's on TV, he always loves to call me over to the living room to watch the video and listen, awesome lol. My sis likes them but she's not a fan and not that into as I am. She went to see them with me this year along with my friend. My brother, who's only 3, likes Green Day, too. He always recognizes Green Day songs when I play them on my iPod or on my computer to him. He loves to say the names of members. As to my friends, only one friend of mine likes Green Day. She was at the concert with me and enjoyed it because she loves them too. All the other people I know don't like them and that's sad.. a lot of people think they're emo and stuff. I don't get why.. the fact Billie and Tré wear eyeliner doesn't make them emo.

my friends don't know them so i don't have problems with that but my family no one knows except my brother and he kinda like them so i don't have problems with that and i will i will make them suck my ******* ya i will :P

Haha. Thanks... most people like the way that the GD tat came out... and then when I pull up my shorts and there is a giant stitch on my thigh, they looove it :)

I got into Green Day when I was 14 and I had just moved to Ohio from Pennsylvania.

I had to start over at a new highschool, in a new state, with no friends.

I met my best friend Kelly in highschool, and one of our first conversations was about Green Day.

I'm not sure we would have ever talked if it weren't for our shared love of Green Day.

As for family, my mom likes Green Day. Not to the extent that I do, but she will call or text me when she hears about Green Day on tv or the radio or online or sees something in a store. Haha.

My fiance can't stand Green Day for the simple fact that I am obsessed with them.

:pinch:

When we first started dating, I looked through his cds and he has Nimrod and American Idiot, so I know he liked them at one point.

I probably ruined it for him by listening to them non stop, talking about them all the time, buying their merchandise all the time, and just generally being obsessed.

My 3 best friends are "into" Green Day, but not to the same extent as I am.

My friend Eileen only started listening last year when I played her 21CB, so I lent her every single CD the band has put out... It proved to be futile though, she's only a fan of 21CB and likes American Idiot a little bit, the rest is lost on her.

My friend Laurie liked em before I met her, but that's cause I only met her after American Idiot came out... She's absolutely obsessed with Jesus of Suburbia, and although I love how she's so into the album, she's not really a fan of any of their other albums, old or new.

And finally my friend Chris... I've got a knack for getting him into music that I like. Alice in Chains, Alter Bridge, System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, The Doors, Audioslave, The Living End, Marilyn Manson, Serj Tankian, Wolfmother, Weezer, and of course, Green Day, are all bands that I've managed to get him hooked on. With Green Day, he likes one or two songs off of each album except Kerplunk and 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. That can be attributed to his lack of love for punk, so the more hardcore stuff is lost on him. But without a doubt, his favourite Album is Warning. He loves every song off of it, which is awesome, cause I love the album too, but again, he's another one album friend.

Aside from those three friends though, most of the people I know despise Green Day. They call them fags. They tell me I'm a loser for liking them and their shitty music. They were once all sitting around having a hate session on the band and when I was in the kitchen getting a drink I heard them say that any man who wears eye liner is a loser... I promptly went upstairs and put on eye liner, to see if they'd open their mouths then, and of course, they didn't.

I try not to talk about music with them too much. They're into Rob Zombie, Five Finger Death Punch (Worst band name ever...), Hatebreed, Lamb of God, Slayer, Megadeth, Lamb of God, etc... I mean I do like my fair share of metal, but I'm obviously not as big a fan as they are. We recently all went to Heavy MTL, and I was the only one there pumped to see Alexisonfire, Avenged Sevenfold, and KoRn, the three bands that they all didn't want to see. These same friends are also into frikking Dubstep. If there's one kind of music I can't stand, it's techno. I don't see how anyone can be so into the genre, it makes no sense to me. No words, no lyrics, no meaning, just repetitive bass lines. I mean at least rap has creativity involved with the lyrics and rhythm delivery.

Lastly, my family... I don't see my dad often, but I do know that he's pretty neutral about the band. He likes a few songs, but that's it. My mum absolutely LOVES the band and shares my crush/obsession with Billie Joe, Mike and Tre. She'll listen to anything and everything Green Day, and while she isn't a big fan of the first two albums, she loves everything onwards, including the Tubbies and the Network. She randomly calls me and plays the sax solo from Pieces of Truth and hangs up without saying a word. She'll text me lyrics all the time, which'll start a string of lyric trading that goes on for hours... My aunts/uncles are all impartial. One of them, who's only 25, was a big fan of Dookie and still gives them the occasional listen, but that's about it. My grandparents tolerate it, they don't like it, they don't hate it. I can't complain about my family.

All in all though, aside from the friends who hate the band, people think my love for Green Day is really cute. They know it's not a phase, I've been into the band since I started listening to music at age 8. I get teased a bit by Eileen, Laurie, and Chris, but they're just making harmless little jokes that make me laugh too. They always know when a birthday or Christmas comes around, a really easy gift to get me is anything with Green Day on it. One of em found and bought me 9 cans of Green Day Full Throttle the other day, and I flipped, hahaha. They know the band and everything about them ARE my life, and they love to have fun with that. I guess I open myself up for it when I start an hourly countdown on Facebook counting down the hours to the show (every day at midnight I post the amount of hours left)... I've convinced the three of them to buy tickets and come with me to the concert on the 21st, and I can't wait!

*sigh*

I <3 Green Day

Only one of my freinds like them but all my friends know how obsessed I am with them and accept it now but I try not to talk about them too much. My mum and dad both really like them now and I think they have accepted my obsession now as before they thought it was just a phase and I would grow out of it.

Everyone who knows me, knows about my GD obsession and all of them thinks I'm a freak because of that

My mum likes Green Day, she was with me at the concert in October last year, and she liked to go to another concert this year, but I only had 2 tickets, so I didn't take her with me :P

(I had standing tickets and she didn't want to stand).. and the other concerts were to far away for her :o so she didn't let me go to another concert -.-'

She only likes AI and 21stCB... but anytime there is a song of GD in the radio she turns the volume up and screams "listeeen! there is a song of GD" haha that makes me smile everytime again =D

my dad didn't really care about my GD love.. I think he thinks I'm a freak or whatever.. and maybe he's thinking that it's just a phase I'm going through, but it definetly isn't. I'm still into them since I'm 11..

my friends are just thinking I'm a freak xD but most of them are liking some songs of them (: so they don't tease me for it.. :shifty:

uhm and my grandma didn't know them till I make her listen to some songs... but she didn't liked them. (I think most because it is english, and she can't stand english...because she doesn't understand it).

and my cousins can't understand my love to them. but they accept it.

Posted

my dad loves it, my mom hates it.

most of my friends hate them, but that's 'cos they have bad taste in music :P i have a few that like them, but not as much as i do

Posted

My friends think I'm really crazy for them. I used to listen pop music like Britney Spears, Girls Aloud, Selena Gomez... but when I discovered Green Day, everything changed to me and my friends don't like my change  i like it, anyways... i think Green Day made me find right way

my parents think they're good. they don't know english too much. and they don't understand the lyrics  they just listen the music and love them.

my mum likes green day, i mean she often asks me to lend her the cds, and she offered to go with me on a concert, 'cause she wouldn't let me go alone on a very big festival which is not in my homecountry, but at the end we didn't go because of some appointment or something (which actually, because the concert was cancelled, turned out good at the end, when i nearly got too insane..), but whatever. it's a huge thing for me, that my momma likes this music, 'cause u wouldn't expect that from her (she's a bit old-fashioned). her favorite song is Macy's Day Parade. but than here comes my dad, which thinks gd's music is the worst music on the world, he says that when u hear one song every other is the same and i always get cross with him because of what he says, which is so untrue. and my brother, he's only 6 but he likes them, because he's obsessed with all the guitars and drums and her favorite song is 21 Guns, he knows the whole sung "in his own language" (he doesn't speak english yet).

there're are some of my friends who like green day, but i think of them that they're some "wannabe" fans or something. they now just newer famous songs, some of them don't even now that dookie exist:S they now for american idiot and 21st century breakdown, and from those to almost not all the songs, WEIRD PEOPLE :ninja: sometimes i'm ashamed i know fans like that.. and yeah there comes one friend of mine who knows for only the whole 21st century breakdown + american idiot, blvd. of broken dreams and holiday and it's so funny to talk to her about Green Day when she knows nothing about dookie, kerplunk, insomniac, nimrod... at all:D so, i know in person only two true Green Day fans, which i'm ashamed of a bit. and ofcourse there are also friends of mine that hate or don't like green day, that's life.

My friends don't care. But I think my family is annoyed by it. :/

Posted

my friends think im crazy for being so obssessed. But my family, on the other hand, i got them all obsessed too. Haha they don't like them as much as i do but they are definatly fans.

Posted

I suppose most of them are tired of listen about green day ..xDD but they understand Gd have always helped and mean so much to me

Posted

Well some of my friends like them. They won't let anyone say mean things about them while I'm around, which is nice I guess

My friends that live far away can't listen to them with out thinking of me so they don't listen to Green Day anymore :( which is really sad!

My family is all good with it. My little sister likes some of their songs, their not one of her favorite bands though. And my mom took me to my first Green Day concert...that was really cool; mind you she spent most of the time flirting with a some what good looking security guard named Dan.

Posted

it seems that when you get obsessed with green day, the people around you either hate their guts or join in on your fandom. personally, my sister now hates them, but my mom and dad love them. alot of my grandparents, aunts, and uncles hadn't fucking HEARD of them so when they where like, 'who is green day?" i was just like, what the fuck??? (not really i probably said fudge...)

my really good friends now like them and my bf loves them too. except this one day i had a gd shirt on and this hippie girl asked me, "when is green day?" when??? it's not a holiday... girl... what decade are you living in? oh well it had been a funny joke for my friends to always ask me when's green day. hilarious. =P
