sammers93 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My mom absolutely despises Green Day. My dad likes 'em. My aunt (who is mentally retarded) was sitting next to me while I was watching a GD interview and she said that Billie's cute. She's never said that about anyone before. My friends...bleh. They have horrible taste in music.
Just Kate Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 i'm not obsessed, come on... but my friends think i'm weird. none of them listen to rock music let alone punk... my parents just give up commenting but they used to... no one i know (real people) likes Green Day or just nice rocking out... sucks
elisa Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 my parents like Green Day. my dad comes to shows with me, he is a huge rock fan. He even sings along! I often walked into him listening to Green Day. He's pretty cool. my mum also loves rock music; she once asked me to give her some green day songs and everynow and then I catch her listening to them. like the other day she was listening to St. Jimmy very loudly. loved it
Just Kate Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 ^omg lucky girl... well, my mom likes Shoplifter and American Idiot and Why Don't You Get A Job by Offspring but only cos they have much rhythm... oh, her new love Hold On! but that's all of rock. she likes disco. my dad prefers electric music...
mandajane Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 my boyfriend thinks its cute as hell how obsessed i am with them. he thinks its cool that i am so passionate about them. he understands why though. hes so sweet <3 my friends are pretty nuetral about it. i dont get made fun of at all for it. (i used to in highschool though. sucked...) my dad thinks its funny how into them i am, but he seems pretty nuetral about it. he did meet billie joe when i did
Vespertine Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My mom loves some of their songs. Especially 21 Guns, Give Me Novacaine, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Viva La Gloria! and Restless Heart Syndrome. But she doesn't like the fast rock songs. lol My dad never listens to them. My sister LOVES them lol And my friends, well, they don't like Green Day and, sometimes, some of them make fun of me. But that's alright, I don't care. I'm used to it and I don't think it's a bad thing, especially since it doesn't affect our friendship at all.

Most of the people who make fun of other people for liking them probably don't know much about the band anyway.
ems Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My parents like Green Day. My Dad's seen them with me twice and would come again with me next time. My Mum saw them once with us, she enjoyed it but gigs aren't really her thing and she said she wouldn't go again which I just don't understand! But of course they don't love them as much as I do. One of my friends thinks they're ok, but I asked her to come to the gig with me last month and she said no! And on Saturday when we were out I was talking about the gig again I kind of persuaded her to come next time and she said something like 'But it's just his voice, it makes all the songs sound the same' ... or something like that.
AfterShock Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My mom likes the popular ones, like KYE, LOTAG, Good Riddance, When I Come Around, American Idiot, etc. My dad could care less. I've gotten a couple friends to be a little more than casual fans, but none of them are as big of a fan as me some of them just hate Green Day though
Charlotte2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 My friends actually really like Green Day. My family don't really care much for them but my mom had a blast at the concert.
ScreamsInSilence815 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Weeeeeeelllll, let's see... My mom owns and loves a copy of American Idiot, thanks to me. My best friend owns International Superhits, American Idiot, Bullet in a Bible, went with me to the July 25th '09 show and is absolutely in love with Billie Joe and made me buy him 21CB for his birthday. My dad keeps telling me he needs another copy of American Idiot because he lost his. So, yeah. That about explains it all.
Whatsername 36 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 My dad says they're crap. My mom freaked out when she saw the Parental Advisory sticker for the first time on a Green Day album, she doesn't approve it, but she knows I won't stop listening to them because of her. But she does sing along 21 Guns. My cousin only loves 21st Century Breakdown (I'm trying to get her into more albums of them) and she has learned a few tracks off it on the drums. A boy in my class likes East Jesus Nowhere. There's also a girl in my class who likes BOBD and WMUWSE. Yup, that's pretty much it. As you can see, my cousin is my only hope, that's why I'm trying so hard to get her into Green Day.
JeanJeanie Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 My friends seem to love how much I love them. Like when they announced this upcoming tour my friends took me out to a place with WiFi so I could buy a ticket between classes and for Christmas they all got me these old school stickers and lighters with Green Day on them. It was righteous.
NowhereBound Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Most of my family think they're ok and they're fine with me liking them.... Oh, and I have two cousins that like Green Day, but one of them kind of lost interest and the other isn't actually a "fan." He thinks he's a hardcore Green Day fan but he only listens to the SINGLES off of Dookie and all of the American Idiot album and all of 21st Century Breakdown...He thought that Dookie was the first album which really pissed me off.... So in short, my family either likes them ot they thing they're ok but they are definitely not fans at all... All of my friends HATE Green Day. The only friend that I have that actually likes Green Day likes The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, etc... So Yeah I'm screwed...
Carnation Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 At first my dad hated them a lot (because of a rather 'explicit' performance on stage ) and complained about them to me excessively, and insulting them in my face over and over again. But, I guess he watched that old interview thing that was on TV about Rock Band that I recorded, and now he thinks they're pretty okay people. Still doesn't like their music though, but I won't force him or anything *sigh*. My mom likes them, I've converted my older sisters into liking them (haha, repetition of song playing, it works sometimes), and the majority of my friends take at least some sort of liking to them.
redbloodedmannequin Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Well, most of my friends either hate Green Day or just don't give a damn about them. The ones who hate them tend to tease me about it. A lot. Thank goodness I have at least a couple of friends who do like them... My family doesn't really care either, except my brother who used to be a big fan, but doesn't like them as much anymore. He hates everything post-Warning.
Laura! Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 My mom doesn't really like them. She can't stand 21 Guns. I don't know how my dad feels about them, he once said he would want to watch Bullet in a Bible with me though. I don't think my brother minds them, he did play Rock Band with me one night. Three of my best friends like them, they all went with me to the show last year. One is a big fan, but nowhere near as dedicated as I am. Another likes them, she gets annoyed if I talk or listen to them too much around her though. The third is a big fan as well, but he only as AI, 21CB and a few of the older stuff. He said he'd let me burn all their music onto his computer though! I have another friend who hates them. She hates them because they swear. Whenever I'm around her I can't listen to them at all, or talk about them. It's really annoying.
ScreamsInSilence815 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Oh, and I forgot to mention that my mom, uncle, and cousin went with me to my first show. My cousin was 8 at the time. And my mom mentioned once she thinks Billie Joe is cute.
colour_me_stupid_ Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I have another friend who hates them. She hates them because they swear. Whenever I'm around her I can't listen to them at all, or talk about them. It's really annoying. Because they swear??? Wow, you should tell her to join the 21st century
Robin105 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 "but it's the same show!" That's exactly what my parents say! No It's not the same show. Ok most of the songs they play at every show but sometimes they throw a rare one in and it's always something different. My parents think I'm nuts. They think I'm nuts for seeing 2 Green Day shows this summer. I just want to say to them "You know there's this group I know who went to almost every Europe show last month!" They don't understand that I care about this band more then anything and without them I wouldn't be happy and I'd probably feel lonely. And for some reason the people my age that I work with don't like them but I know a few older people who don't mind them.
gdpony Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 My friends think Im a little obsessed, and my family thinks it's ok
carasway Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 My family tolorate my addiction (to Green Day), but think i'm mad - I did most of the shows in Aust last year and am now doing half the US tour too... I dont admit to my friends how much i've spent. While both my family and friends like GD - it's not to the extent i do.
Isabel Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 That's exactly what my parents say! No It's not the same show. Ok most of the songs they play at every show but sometimes they throw a rare one in and it's always something different. Exactly. I mean, they're not the best at mixing up setlists and they do play a lot of the same songs every night (this excludes Prague and Mainz!!) but they can pull it off. They make it so interesting and mind blowing every single time so it never ever feels boring or old. And it's harder for huge arena/stadium popular bands to vary their setlists. At the end of the day they need to fill those arenas so they will always have to play songs that most people want to hear. i.e. the singles. (although I can't imagine being able to follow a tour like American Idiot because that was pretty much the exact same songs every single night with the same things said in between!)
Velocity Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 My friends seem to love how much I love them. Like when they announced this upcoming tour my friends took me out to a place with WiFi so I could buy a ticket between classes and for Christmas they all got me these old school stickers and lighters with Green Day on them. It was righteous. Aw, you're lucky. I wish I had friends who did stuff like that. Most of my friends don't know the extent of my fandom, but the few who do think it's ridiculous and funny and they're very patronizing on the rare occasion I do mention Green Day. My mom knows I listen to them but she doesn't know how much. I never talk about them to her. I remember one time, out of nowhere, she randomly asked me which member of Green Day I thought was "the best looking one". She kept prodding me, it was actually kind of funny. I was just like "Mom, no! Just no!"
