Matty_EFC Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 <3 I had the greatest fortune to see Green Day perform this live on the 31st October '09 in Dublin No you didnt They were in Manchester that night with me But they didnt play this, not sure if I'd rather have this or pasalacqua, which we got. And then he did the first line in June in the LCCC, I was gutted they didnt do it all
SetOnOverdrive Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I think this track really shows that Green Day really could make this awesome poppy style song with just 4 or so chords. This to me is Green Day, a catchy poppy guitar riff and some amazing heartfelt lyrics. When I write music I aim to make it sound like this track. Perfect.
whatsername..x Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 One of my favourite Green day songs of all time, a classic everyone went so crazy when they played it at the London show last year, it was awesome!!
xpoprocks&kittycatsx Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Oh I absolutely love this song!! It's too cute! :3
Lou-Lou-Cool Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 I love this song, It is old school Green Day, possibly my favourite song on Kerplunk. Awesome lyrics and a song that never gets old! A Green Day classic!
DecanoLP Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 This song is too good for words. I love the heavy beginning, the lyrics are perfect and wahh... awesome <3
cherrybomb! Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I love this song!!! I was so happy when they played it at manchester on the 30th oct. It's just so sweet and it's exactly how i feel whenever my boyfriend is away.
Kilgores Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 One of the pritties gd love song, I really like it
ErikaAnne Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 It is such a great song. truly heartfelt and amazing. : )
bollard_11 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 This song has so much meaning to me personally. The first time I ever saw Green Day live they played this song (Dublin 21st October 2009), and the last time I saw them in Marley Park in Dublin on 23rd June 2010 they also played this song. And being in a long distance relationship I can really relate to these lyrics. In tough times when I am really missing my girlfriend I always pop on this song. I also find inspiration to the fact the Billie and Adrienne started out their relationship long distance and they have become such a success together (like spiritually if that makes any friggen sense ) I hope that in 20 years time me and Rebecca will be still as in love as we are today and this song helps me relate to that *end of soppy rant

I do know what you mean, and of course it makes sense. That feeling of yearning to be with someone who's also yearning to be with you and who seems so far away (even though the globe is pretty small these days) is something I think almost everyone can relate to - even if the "far away" isn't a literal, physical distance. I hope that you and Rebecca are the next Billie Joe and Adie ... or even better!

PasalacquaBomb Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Yay! 2,000 Light Years Away!! One of my favorite GD songs. It's the first 'old-school' GD song I've heard and I immediately fell in love with it. I just love the happy feeling in it. Oh, and I really love the live version, too. BJ's solos are just awesome.
Katarina. Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I think I missed hearing about this being song of the week.. I LOVE 2,000 Light Years Away! Such a lovely song, on such a lovely album
Ellenkc Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I can't get over the fact I've seen this song live twice, both in Dublin. They so clearly love us One of my favorite love songs and some of my favourite lyrics.
Comedy & Tragedy Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I often forget how amazing this song is I've heard it live twice now, both in Dublin. I think describes a feeling that nearly everybody has experienced. Missing someone, feeling lonely. I even think about this song whenever Green Day isn't on tour (as stupid as it sounds ).
Savior of Rebellion Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I love 2,000 Lightyears Away....as simple as it seems, it just expresses that "feeling" so perfectly, its a beautiful song The line "She holds my malakite, so tight..." always seems to get to me. This song is probably my favvorite on Kerplunk (probably tied with Christie Road and some others). offtopic: Its also nice for me to get back into rhythm with checking out the Song of the Week. I was confused with the new 'Green Day Music" forum, and I didn't pay much attention to what happened to SOTW ...but I'm glad its still here 'cause I love this idea
*_Whatsername_* Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I love this song. It really does have beautiful lyrics. I never actually knew what malachite meant before! Ah, you learn something new everyday.
CoreyGregory Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 Really great song! I was super stoked when they played this at Hartford last night.
SacrificialSuicide Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 This was my favorite Green Day song for like.... 6 months i think(: Kerplunk is still my favorite album, of course
jos_whatsername Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Oh god I am so DEADLY jealous of everyone who heard this song live!! its sooo amazing, i love the melody and the lyrics are so cute but yet poetic.. <3 <3 <3 Best kerplunk-song ever!
