Smbcf Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Thanks for posting, go Jason! Personally I'm not all that keen, I think his voice is actually a lot better than the record makes it sound The first thing that popped into my mind was how it sounded like something my dad would of loved

colour_me_stupid_ Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 He sounds nothing like I imagined he would! I love it
Sarah.Scumbag Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Aw that's pretty cool, I had no idea he was doing solo stuff! I'm not really keen on his voice at the start of Hungover though, but once it's into the song it sounds much better!
Abbey. Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 http://www.theinfluents.net/the_influents_mp3.htm thank you so very much tomcat20! abbey
Echo Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I love it His voice is amazing. It reminds me of the good stuff that is rarely made anymore in the music industry
dirnt286 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I could use a full album or two or three of these. Here's to hoping Jason has more his cannon.
Trina Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Pretty sweet. Does anyone know where I can hear, 'I'm A Mess'?
Bastard of 1967 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I love it His voice is amazing. It reminds me of the good stuff that is rarely made anymore in the music industry Gave both tracks a good listen on the iPod on the way into work today. What a great way to start the day! I like them both. We already knew Jason had a decent singing voice from the backing vocal work he does with Green Day on tour (and we also already knew he's an accomplished and very versatile guitar player) but I was pleasantly surprised to hear how well he sounds solo. A few "critical" thoughts -- I like the lyrics from "Hungover". I think Jason must have learned a thing or two about songwriting from working alongside Billie for so many years now -- it's written in a very honest, first-person, "oh shit I really let myself go last night and now I've got a mess to clean up," just-the-facts style that shares some resemblance to Billie's lyrical style, and there's even some doublespeak/mixed-meaning in there that we're also accustomed to hearing from Green Day. I couldn't help but wonder how the song would sound if Billie were singing it instead of Jason...and I could *so* see Green Day covering this on tour, with Jason taking the lead vocals and Billie backing *him* up for a change. As for the song overall -- the lead guitar has a great FBHT/Green Day flavor to it (no surprise there) but Jason's vocals actually have a little bit of Jakob Dylan in them, just in a higher register...sort of like FBHT meets The Wallflowers when it's all put together. The chorus is just a tad bit repetitive toward the end, but given the subject matter, that may very well be appropriate. "I'm A Mess" is a treat. The chord and strum pattern in the guitar is reminiscent of Blondie's "One Way Or Another"...poppy, peppy, punchy. There's something enjoyably comical and ironic about Jason singing "I'm A Mess" with the up-tempo "dooh-dooh-dooh/dooh-dooh-dooh-dooh" backing vocals, and (from what I can tell so far) an optimistic twist to the lyrics. "I'm a mess/Just depressed" but "I won't get it wrong this time/Give it my best". The only criticism of the production is that his vocals seem to be a little overdriven and ever so slightly distorted. Don't know if that was a slip-up by his producer or if it was intentional. Two thumbs-up and a big YEA JASON!! from me. Hope this just the first of many new things we hear from him.
Nikki_Nimrod Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Thanks for sharing, I quite like it His voice is really great, I'm definitely getting the 45!
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 ooooh cool! I hope I can listen it, am a lil short on time and there's a lot of other noise here. I love his voice!
leacalifornia Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 He sounds a little like Billie to me... I like it!! I'm gonna go buy it on iTunes! Pretty sweet. Does anyone know where I can hear, 'I'm A Mess'? They have that little :30 preview on iTunes....
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Aw nice, I like it I want to hear I'm A Mess too, but I can't buy digital downloads (or well, let me correct myself, my parents don't want me to and I don't have a credit card).
Trina Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 They have that little :30 preview on iTunes.... Oh! I hadn't thought to check it out there. I actually can't though because I'm using someone else's screwed up laptop these days and I can't download any new programs and it doesn't already have iTunes... :\ For some reason I thought it was up for free somewhere. Just thought I had missed it.
Hermione Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Love this! Love his stuff in PHGP and The Influents too, he's such a great singer/songwriter. Yay for him releasing solo stuff He sounds a little like Billie to me... I agree! Their voices definitely have some similarities, as well as their songwriting. This is a good thing
LouLou Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I really like the song "I'm a Mess". I was listening to it and mom even my mom commented on it, which she never does. Made me happy lol
Guest Shangri-La Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Jason is my hero! If it weren't for him I'd probably be dead in an alley in new york city. This is pretty great. Hopefully after Green Day are done touring this year he'll play some more less-secretive shows outside the bay area.
Jaymee!! Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 At first I was like 'awww, little Jase's voice'. Then I had it playing in the background, and I realized after a couple minutes that I was nodding my head and bouncing my foot to the music. So I think I like it

This is a good thing I agree! xD Actually, the first time I listened to PHGP's 2nd Street I thought it was Billie who sang I think it's great that Jason recorded a single (: Good for him!
