Well, the positive thing is that I don't think we'll have to wait 5 years to get a new record, and that's a relief, I couldn't bear it once again!

It's always interesting to hear stuff like this, but nothing is going to happen overnight! My guess for when we'll get a new album is the middle to late 2012! I just really hope we don't have to wait as along as we did inbetween AI and 21stCB. Finger's crossed!

But what if the world ends ?!?!

Then we track down Billie in the Judgement line, and get him to sing the album for us. :eyebrow: Not even an apocalypse can prevent me from getting my GD fix.

I love 21CB, but seeing how Butch is busy...yeah, Rick Rubin would be awesome!

I love the transistor radio sound on 21CB, it was perfectly imperfect!

wow that interesting, thanks for posting :)

woww! not really much we havent heard before but exciting to see the hype for the new album slowly building up!

im no music producer.. but if they want someone to design their album artwork..point the boys in my direction XD

The world won't end. Green Day said there will be a class of '13. :D

oHHH SNAP!!!!

Definitely. I just want to scream at them that less is more sometimes!!

I completely agree! I like the fact that their older songs have a rougher quality and the little mistakes in them. I find that both 21CBD and American idiot are too perfect and 'clean' for lack of a better word. Hearing the songs live really brings them to life and I think they need to try and capture that more in the recording of the albums. Having said that I still love both albums to death!! :)

Green Day ARE perfectionists. so im hopefully thinking it would start about late 2012 to summer 2013. (:

im surprised how quick they are for getting into a new album since its only been a year when 21st Century came out.

That would be awesome to have it out by the end of next year, but I really am not gonna count on it, nor am I gonna expect that from them. We all know how they are so I'm actually thinking more like two or three yrs from now

....I've had that thought, but now that I've said that, it kinda makes me sad. =/

Isn't finding a producer something that happens really early on in the album making process, before you even start? And all they're doing so far is having a look around and thinking about it? This is cool to know but it doesn't make me think anything's coming sooner.

Rick Rubin would be epic :woot:

i'm pretty sure it was summer of 08 when we heard they were looking for producers for 21st century breakdown, so it's like, for them, a year ahead of the album drop-time. (not at all saying we should expect a new album summer of '11, though. just sayin' it was summer 08 when i think i remember hearing them look for a producer last time)

I agree. Whilst I love 21st CB it did sound way over produced to me. I know its what they wanted but I prefer a more stripped down raw sound. Its one reason I always prefer to listen to good quality live versions of the songs rather than studio recordings. Just so much more passion in them.

If only they could capture that energy on record.

But its good news they're at least thinking ahead to the next album even if its not going to out for a while.

i won't keep my hopes up for a new album next year. it'll be a lot harder to follow up 21st CB with a new rock opera.

maybe 2012.

After the demo stage finding a producer is pretty much the first step into making an album. This is good news because it shows they're starting to seriously think about their new album but they could be booking a producer for sometime next year.

I know it's wayyyy tot early to be excited but...I am! This is good news!

That means almost nothing! Who knows how long they will take to choose the producer, decide which songs will be written, record ... They are very perfectionist! Until they decide that the album is ready can take a little while.

I hope that we don't need to wait more five years!

Yeah, there's a lot to think about, but OMG OMG OMG, I can't help feel really happy and excited!!! :woot:

I like Foxboro Hot Tubs & The Network really much, but i hope something new of GREEN DAY!!

I think I might be the only one who really hopes its a Foxboro album. :ermm:

Please, no more Butch Vig. The production on most of 21st Century Breakdown is just awful. He edits all the passion out of their music! /slightly over-reacting but yeah, please never work with Butch again.

I always wish they would produce their own albums. They're amazing at it but I understand they feel they need someone outside of Green Day/outside of their heads to evaluate everything with them.

They should just bring back Rob if they really need a producer.

I quite liked what Butch did. I didn't find it to sound too polished, it just sounded clear. AI was tinny as hell in my opinion, you don't get that with 21CB, it's a lot crisper.

Posted

Slightly? Understated. He made Billie's voice sound like he was singing in a tin can. I love the album, but in spite of the production.

There's one thing I'll always give Butch credit for though -- what he did to push Billie's natural voice to places he (Billie) had never gone with it before. He helped turn him from a basically unidimensional, snarly punk singer into a real, and really gifted, vocalist. Billie's vocal range is so much broader and so, so much more versatile than it was before 21CB, and now there's almost nothing he can't do with it....he just sounds effin' fantastic now, and that "nyah nyah nyah", abrasive side to his voice isn't his default singing style anymore. He can still call that up when it's appropriate to use it though, but he's in control of it now rather than the other way around.

What Butch did that I didn't like so much is mute Mike's bass lines way into the background. On 21CB they're rather difficult to distinguish from Billie's lead guitar, where if you compare 21CB to Insomniac or American Idiot, Rob Cavallo made that bass stand way out on most of the tracks -- there's that dull, thrumming "undercurrent" that Mike does better than almost anyone else in the biz and that really helped make Green Day's "older" sound, that just is missing from 21CB. It'd be great to have that back again regardless of who produces the next album. :)

I hope Rob makes a return too, But i get the feeling the band might want to switch things up a little this time.. so a new producer may be likely.

Its kind of depressing to think that i will be more than likely be an actual adult when the new record comes out
