Definitely, I'm totally sure that most of the Green Day "fans" follow the band because of their image and style, eyeliner, ties, tattoos, tight pants..

i reckon this.

i do not agree. Billie was soo cute during the Dookie era, and later on, he changed, the way he dressed up, and Mike and Tre too!

I was actually thinking about this when they were playing in paris. It was boiling hot but they were all still in skinnies and billie with a longsleeved shirt and stuff cause its part of their image now but they must have been boiling.

Ok I know that's not really saying if it matters or not, but I just thought it was silly :P they shouldve worn like shorts and tshirts and stuff.

Basically, what it comes down to for me is the music. Obviously, the guys are gorgeous, but even if they were the most hideous, disfigured people they would still make the most kickass music in the world. It's nice to put a poster of them up and have them be insanely good-looking, but honestly, the music is what's soul-deep. Ugh, that sounds super cheesy, but whatever.

Like when the pictures came out of Billie with facial hair a few years back and it seemed like almost everyone was obsessing about it. Like, seriously?

They can look however the fuck they want, wear what they want, choose to wear guyliner or not, and the fact remains: they're still Green Day, the best band in the world.

End of story.

Yes i think the image matters....

especially when AI came out there was a big hype about GD goin on. Everybody who was listening to GD was cool....because of their look and image. In the music business the imaage of a band/artist got more and more important over the last couple years, maybe even more important than the music itself (I personally dont like this trend). And if GD wouldn't have followed that trend they for sure wouldn't be as sucessfull anymore as they are now.

In the first years i listened to GD i didn't care about their look at all i'm not sure if i even know what they looked like....the music was und still is the most important thing about GD....by now i think its a (how one of you guys called it) "nice addition" how they look like....but not more or a reason to like them or not....

I've seen a couple people here say that people complain too much about things like Billie's haircut or Mike's white pants....yes, people are complaining (although a lot of the time it isn't even complaining, it's just an opinion about, in this case Billie's hair or whatever, that isn't positive. There's a difference), but I haven't seen anyone going all "I don't like them anymore now Billie's hair is short!!!!!!!!!!'. Just saying they either don't or do like it. I understand and agree with it that the discussion shouldn't always be about their hair or clothes or general appearance or whatever.... but you can't even mention any of that without people going either "stop always complaining about how they look!" or "why is everyone always praising them no matter what they do?!".

yeah...that hasn't got much to do with the question of the OP but it's related to the topic so yeah. :)

Yeah, this

I'm not too big of a fan of the/a uniform anyway... I mean, I don't mind it and of course it's none of my business anyway, but well. Nothing wrong with mixing things up a little bit so once in a while, it's almost a bit stiff that it's always the same formula. And for reasons like this ^, too.

sorry that was a bit offtopic...

I'm going to assume you are referring to my post,

I said people are perfectly entitled to their own opinions, like maybe what they think suits them better... But the people that actually complain about it just... D:

I don't know about other people, but what they look like doesn't matter to me. I listened to (and loved) their music before I saw their faces. When I finally saw one of their music videos, I thought, "Sweet! That singer has wicked eyes!" but that's definitely not the reason why I listen to their music.

Yep, same... Plus I wasn't interested in guys when I first started listening to Green Day.

Yeah, long time ago.

Partly, but not really. It wasn't a direct reply to your post or anything. It just happened to trigger my post (along with others mentioning complaining about looks/over-adoring their looks) because it mentioned the people complaining thing, and this is finally an appropriate thread where I can post it, because I've noticed people doing what I described for a while. I know you didn't mean it like I described in my post. The actual complaining...I guess that would bug me too, but I can't really remember anyone here ever really complaining about it in a serious 'now I don't like them anymore' way, only joking.

Yeah cool, don't worry I wasn't having a go. :)

Edit:

I don't mean people on here, I mean like people on my Facebook and stuff

I only love Green Day because they are short.

Damn those tall punx.

Haha yeah I'm the same! Even Mike, who I always thought was really tall, is just average height. Just looks that way cos the others are so small! :)

Haha okay, good :)

Oooh I see. I've never really encountered people like that, only viavia, hearing from others etc.

For me it doesn't make diference how they look like. But I think their image is one of the main reasons of them make success. Many people were attracted exactly for this! The same way that others were attracted by their attitude on stage.

But I think after some time that people start to enjoy and appreciate the music because in my opinion no band survives only of the appearance!

I think image matters for any musician trying to 'make' it sadly, even if the music is the thing that comes first.

Then again, Green Day have a lot of male fans who obviously won't care about how attractive the guys are.

To some degree I'm sure their image has helped their success and kind of defines who they are. To me though I can't say it makes that much of a difference. When I first heard Green Day I thought they sounded amazing, I fell in love with their music months before I finally saw a picture of them and found out what they looked like. I definately didn't become a fan because of their looks. It might be easy to say now that I think they're actually pretty good-looking and all, but I've never been the one to obssess over their looks or given it much thought at all.

I don't know... Maybe I wouldn't have covered my walls with posters of a bunch of hairy bikers (if that'd be what they were), or maybe I would. I still think I'd love their music the same way I do now. That's all that ever really mattered to me. I mean, it's cool that they're nice to look at as well, but that's really just a plus that like I said probably don't make that much difference to me.

I think it's obviously had a big impact on their mainstream success (oh my god...he's so sexy...he wears eyeliner...that's so hot!!!! lol), but in terms of music and the really hardcore green day fans (and I'm sure many fellow GDC-ers would agree) their image doesn't matter one iota. Don't get me wrong, they're very attractive men and I wouldn't kick any of them out of bed ;D but when it comes to my own personal love of green day I look to them almost as a member of my extended family. When I see them doing well it makes me feel so proud. I know a lot of green day fans feel the same way. My love for green day stems from mainly my love of green day's music, but green day are such lovely guys it's hard to not love them just for their adorable personalities :D x

you're right, I agree

When I started to listen to Green Day I didn't know how the guys looked like cause i was a child and I didnt have computers and phones, ya know

I think it matters, it's definetly not the most important thing...but it matters.

Well I think that sometimes it matters..But not always..When I first bought AI I didn't even remembered how they looked like and I was just listening to the CD all the day and I didn't even knew they were wearing eyeliner or red ties etcetc..

But then I think that many people and especially girls really care about the bands clothes and style!

Does their image matter? Yes.

Should it matter? No.

I mean, it doesn't matter to any of us really. Like many of you said before, the music is what is most important. But an overwhelming majority of people today care about how people look. I assure you that there is a percentage of people who listen to certain bands just because they are attractive. I know that I know people like this. Plus, image matters for marketing reasons. I once watched a short documentary or something about how attractive people are subconsciously treated better, given better opportunities etc.

But even though this is the case, I would still love them even if they were not attractive. In fact, there are many bands that I like that don't have the greatest image.

haah somewhat...seeing as a lot of us tend to get all giddy when they change the color of their pants and shirts...hehe :whistle

Haha yes..Although sometimes I'm trying to do my style similar to Green Day but I think that the girls are always doing that!

btw I love your ava!!!

I don't see anything wrong with finding them attractive. I'm not one of those who love Green Day only because they're "hot." When I started listening to them, I didn't even know how they look like...
