This will probably not get chosen, but i've always thought this was a good 'family bonding' story.

I was around 12-13 when American Idiot came out. I fell in love with the music, and the band instantly. I continued to buy most of their albums online (i had gotten an itunes giftcard on my birthday that november). While i was blasting Burn Out from my computer, my father came in and told me to turn the music down. I could see he was angry but i still argued with him. I shouted "But It's Green Day!!"

He looked surprised for a second, and responded with "When did you start liking punk music?"

He then took me to his room and opened a cabinet, one that i had been repeatedly told to never touch. inside were hundreds of vinil records. He then began to play Ramones, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Stooges, and countless other amazing artists i now love.

It was the first time we had ever connected as father-daughter

who knew punk music would bring family closer together?

Awwh that's adorable  Kinda happened with my Mom as well, she caught me listening to Green Day and The Clash and was like  because I'm pretty sure the week before I was listening to Rihanna. I have now taken over my parents stack of vinyls of pretty much all those bands you just said.

One bad thing about this situation is that the whole teenage rebellion side of punk goes down the fucking drain  I told my Dad I was going to dye my hair bright red and get my ears stretched over the summer and he goes ,"Oh you'll look like your mom when she was your age.' That sucked.

I have a great Green Day story. This one is from a long, long time ago. The 1st time I saw Green Day live was

in Aug. 1991 in Tampa, FL at Club Star. Back then I lived in Georgia and it just so happened I was on vacation

in Florida when I found out Green Day was playing there. I was so stoked. I couldn't believe my luck that the

same band that I had been listening to over and over on a cassette my friend made for me that I'd just about

worn out, was playing live and I was going to see them. I'll never forget that night it was wild but fucking

awesome at the same time. Their sound was contagious and everyone was jumping around and rocking out.

I remember some guy that was crowd surfing kicked me in the mouth and I had braces on my teeth back then

so my mouth bled pretty bad. It was the 1st but not the last of my concert battle scars. To make matters worse

my boyfriend tried to beat the guys ass for doing it. I guess Billie could tell there was about to be a big fight

because I remember he stopped playing and asked if everything was cool. It was a crazy night, the place was

packed wall to wall. It was so fucking hot in there I remember I was sweating so badly that my hair was soaking

wet and glued to my head with all the hair spray I had on, it was unreal. I had never seen anything like it. I remember

thinking this was so fucking great! I was having the time of my life. That was until my boyfriend freaked the fuck

out when he saw Tre kiss Billie. After he saw that he wanted to leave that very second. I was like bye see ya because

I ain't going anywhere. He was such a narrow minded jerk, but of course he stayed because I refused to leave. I remember

the club was a hole in the wall place nothing fancy but it was a fucking blast though. Its weird to think about seeing them

in such a small club and now their concerts are so huge. Back then most of the audience were outcast type young people

in their teens and twenties and now their audience is a mix of everyone, old, young, and people of every class. Its been great

to watch them over the years and to see them continue to grow. Nothing will ever compare to that night when I saw

Green Day live for the very 1st time way back then. All I can say is they rocked then and have never stopped. I always

have and always will love Green Day...

I haven't seen Green Day live or met them (yet!), but I do have memorable experiences involving their music. I'm in a band called 'Without Him' with my church youth group. We were performing on a Sunday morning and right as the congregation was leaving, our guitarist, Laurel, started to play the riff in Brain Stew. She looked over to our bassist, D-Legg, and he copied her. Then, our drummer, TIm, started to play and we all kind of nodded. I typically just play keyboard, but since nobody aside from myself knew the lyrics, I went up and started to sing: "I'm having trouble trying to sleep; I'm counting sheep, but running out!"

It was awesome when some of the congregation just turned to watch us play a Green Day song in a chapel; there was a little applause at the end, too, so I sort of felt like Billie Joe up there singing to a bunch of old peeps and families. :)

^all these family stories are so awesome :D and I'm really grateful for my mom for letting me go see the AI musical the second day of previews <3

So here's my story.

My mom and I got to the St. James and found our seats (in the orchestra section :)) and right before the show started, Green Day walks in!! Everyone is cheering and clapping. I turned around and saw them, and caught a glimpse of Adrienne too and they sat down in the middle orchestra section.

After the show, my mom and I walked out of the theater into the hallway (where everyone can graffiti the walls) and I saw Billie behind an "Employees Only" door. Then I walked back into the theater which was pretty empty by now and Mike was standing there taking some photos. I walk up to him and my mom's like "We're from California! We came all the way here to see the show!" and Mike was like oh alright, and put his arm around me for a pic. :woot:

He was in a hurry (I feel bad for holding him up..sorry Mike!) and other people were taking pics of him too and he was like "you gotta have camera skills" lol

Unfortunately, I only had my camera phone so the pics didn't come out that great. But here's Mike at the St. James! :D

At the first Foxboro Hot Tubs show in NYC in April, I was onstage... and Billie fell on me, and pulled the Cobra girls down with him.

Well I've never even been close to meeting the band....but this is kind of funny.

I was driving home from school a couple months ago, and my stepdad and I were blasting American Idiot with the windows rolled down. We stopped at a light, and the people car in front of us and the car next to us both started dancing and singing and leaning out the window to the song. When he says "is calling out to idiot America", we all like, screamed it. It was hilarious. I didn't even know who the people were. Hahaha.

I met Green Day last July at the meet and greet in Fargo, ND. Hot Topic was only giving out 300 wristbands and thankfully one of my cousins lives in Fargo (I live in Minnesota about a 2 hour drive away) - so she was nice enough to run to the mall and get me a wristband. I freaked out. On the day of the meet and greet I got to the mall at 11AM and Green Day didn't get there until about 2:45PM. I was 20th in line and once they started taking groups into the store, I was getting so nervous. A dream of mine was coming true. While waiting in line, in hot topic, I just remember seeing Mike and Billie through a crack in the merchandise rack and is seemed so surreal. Soon enough, I was up at the table and handed Mike my guitar. He was like "Wow, Look at this thing!" and then I nervously blurted out, "Hey Mike! How are you?!" - as he autographed my guitar, he said, "Good! You?" and I said, "Good!" then I stuck out my hand and said "Nice to meet you!" and he said, "You too!" and shook my hand. Next was Billie and went through the same dialogue I had with Mike but I also said, "Tonight is my first Green Day concert." and Billie was like, "Really?!? Well I hope you have an awesome time!" Then he slid my guitar over to Tre' and then I realized I hadn't shook Billie's hand. So in desperate attempt - I stuck out my hand but Billie didn't see me because he was already talking/looking at the next person in line. I just stood there with my hand out like a retard. As I think of it now - I'm sure their security and Tre' were looking at me like WTF? But as I thought I was like, "I'm not leaving here without at least touching Billie..." lol so I just was like "Billie.." and then he looked at me and saw my hand. He smiled and then shook my hand. By that time, the security guy was standing by me and nicely handed over my guitar because Tre' had already signed it. My mind was everywhere so I just said, "See ya later, Tre!" and waved to him... he smiled and said, "See ya later!" ----- I forgot to hand one of them the letter I had wrote to them. But it was easily the best 2 minutes of my life.

Well, the concert later that night made it even better :D

When I fist got the American Idiot CD for Christmas when I was 8, I started listening to it in the early hours of the morning. My brother, who was 5 at the time, heard the line "The subliminal mind fuck America", had no idea what it meant, and started yelling "Fuck America" at the top of his voice, waking up our neighbors. Best Christmas, hands down.

On saturday (the 19th, at wembley) just before the show I decided to borrow a friend's marker and write "Hi!" on my hands, so when i was jumping around and waving and stuff people would be able to read it. Anyway, I forgot which song it was during, but Mike came over to our side of the stage and he saw the 'hi!' on my hand and acknowleged me with a wink and smile. Made my year haha. :)

At the Belfast show I got pulled up to sing Longview. It was single handedly the best thing that has ever happened to me. I got to sing the entire song in front of 14,000 people while my heroes played along right beside me. The highlights of the whole thing were me grabbing the chance to sing "Green Day, my inspiration!" instead of "Smoking, my inspiration!" and seeing Billie Joe and Mike chuckle to one another. Or when Billie Joe said at the very end "You wouldn't even let me sing my own damn song!" (every time he came over to me to sing I sort of inadvertently pulled away and apparently wouldn't share the mic) :D

One other fantastic memory I have is from 5 days ago, the day before Marlay Park. Melanie, Darren and I all went out to the venue to see if we could hear the soundcheck. (based from Manchester/Wembley experience) after about 3 hours of us happily sitting on the grass right in front of the stage while they fiddled with the lights and the barriers, we were told to leave and stand on the other side of the fence. We knew that this meant the band had arrived. All of the Aussies and he other Irish GDCers were standing there so we walked around and hung with them. Then, sure enough, the band sauntered out a few minutes later. It was amazing; we were watching them start their soundcheck from a short distance away. At one point, Billie Joe spotted us and said "Hi, how are you guys doing? Thanks for coming out...we were expecting more people though (insert a short lol) We're here to entertain you." It was a great soundcheck. They played Stuck With Me and that new song that was on YT for a few days. One of my fondest memories is seeing Mike swivel around the stage on a chair during American Eulogy. (Or American Oogley as Billie Joe called it. )

After they had finished and walked off the stage, we couldn't stop grinning, having thought that we had experienced the best pre-show moment ever. But then we suddenly noticed Brian walking down towards us with a handful of drumsticks. "Are they for us??!" We ran towards the fence. He smiled and said "I'm just gonna throw them over the fence!" and with one huge lunge, I suddenly found myself on top of Glen screaming "You've got two! You've got two! Give me one!" (criiiinge) but it actually turned out that he was gathering extra for us anyway. Oops. Some people didn't manage to get one so Brian came back and said "These are for the people who didn't get any." And he handed them out to anyone who didn't get one the first time. So amazing. When we examined them more closely, we noticed that they were used drumsticks with the Tré Cool signature along the bottom. That was just the icing on the cake. And the show the next day was just absolutely incredible which made the whole few days back home so amazing. <3

Well, I travelled across the world just to see them. I think that's pretty fucking cool? So many people put their lives on hold to do such a thing...for some people it IS their life. And I love that.

Oh! I have the funniest story that happened to me the other day. So, my friend works at orange julius, and we were talking about music. I mentioned Green Day, and all the sudden, this gay couple strolled along and was like, "Someone say Green Day? Oh my gawd, I remember losing my virginity when one of their songs play. What was it? Something-Love slave."

So, I said, "You mean Dominated Love Slave?"

"Yeah! That one. God, the drummer sang that, right?"

"Yeah."

"Shit, that guy is so hot."

And his boyfriend made the cutest pout ever and said, "No way, that Billie guy - Mr. Eyeliner is totally more sexy."

And after that, they got their drink and was still arguing who was more "sexy" while walking away. My friend and I just laughed our asses off. What a sight that way.

I lost my virginity listening to Green Day-- Other than that it was painful and not very special.
