This is one of the most perfect angry songs. I love it.

I remember I was listening to it with my sister and she was like, "Oh my God...who are you listening to?" and I was like, "Green Day."

and she was like, :o "Seriously? That does not sound like them. How can that angry, scary voice come out of that adorable little man? That is talent."

I love that this song is so not them, but it somehow fits in nimrod, imo

I've always liked this song, and Ive noticed people are not very fond of it

never seen that video! its really cute!

I LOVE this song. And not like a  love, more like a punch-my-fist-in-the-air kinda love, lol. When it comes up on my iPod, I wonder how something so angry gives me such a huge smile. Just one of the reasons I love Nimrod so much! I always have to hit 'repeat' - once is not enough. It seems like it goes by too quickly - and yeah, it is only a little over a minute.

It's like an outburst of pent-up raw emotion coming out thru this one minute rant - like he's letting it all out. How cool to be able to do that with a song! I agree it doesn't sound like him, but maybe because he doesn't usually express himself in this way. This is obviously more in your face, not the subtle word-play that he usually uses.

(Angeline described this song once, and I've always appreciated the wording she used. Maybe she can repeat exactly what it was she said, but it had something to do with vomiting up the words - very cool analogy!)

It's angry. And I like angry.

And a perfect analogy at that. I can't say that I find Take Back to be particularly pleasant to listen to -- indeed, if I did I think it'd be time to go get the meds adjusted  -- but oddly enough, if I'm in the right mood (bad day at work is one example), it does sometimes bring an evil smile to my face.

If Billie Joe sometimes sees himself as the "son of rage and love", in Take Back he's most clearly gone well off the "rage" end of the spectrum. The anger just wells up and spews out of the band from the very first beat. There are no excuses, there is no pretense or backpedaling, just pure, explosive, destructive anger. The emotion that spills out of this song is what I think Horseshoes and Handgrenades was also intended to have, but H&H falls just a bit short of the mark. Take Back, on the other hand, nails it.

When I first heard it, I could never really understand what he said until he started saying, "TAKE BACK TAKE BACK." I'm a fan of it when I'm pissed off and want to punch something, though!

I like it if I'm feeling a bit pissed off but generally if I'm listening to nimrod I'm in a much more upbeat mood. I hate to say it but I do normally skip this one :S x

YOU PUSHED ME ONCE TO FAR AGAIN ID LOVE TO BREAK YOUR FUCKIN TEETH ...

LOVE this song

It's got too many plays for what it's worth - I used to let it slide when it came on shuffle as it was only a minute long, but then I saw it had more plays than a lot of my favourites and decided enough is enough.

who was it on here that thought it was too TIGHT, blech? And also me and my friend have a joke about this song :)

i super love this song! the lyrics are great. and billie's screamo.. <3

love it. perfect song when you're angry

I was shocked when I first heard this actually, because like J'net said it barely sounds like Billie. But I like it, it's almost a parrallel compared withthe rest if nimrod. It releases something I think :)

I forgot how good this song was haven't listened to Green Day for a while...

Platypus and Take Back always remind me of one another. I like both of them. Take back is just like a little burst of energy

yeah, same!

I find this song quite funny actually, I always laugh at the Take Baacckk part xD

Yeah, I was pretty shocked too when I first heard it... Like omg Billie  is that you? calm down a little bit hah

I used to skip this song everytime, but I love it now... the best song when you're angry.

Expect it when your least expecting it :shifty:

No loss of love, the smell of regret...

I love how this song comes right after Good Riddance

If I'm in the right mood, I love this song.

I agree. I find it so amazing that he can sing that song that way and then just stop and smile that big, beautiful smile :D.

this exactly

in the astoria performance i always laugh when Billie gives out to Mike at the beginning :P

this song makes me so grateful that billie/mike/tre never went down the crust/metal/harcore road in any seriousness even tho im sure they were hearing a lot of it in the bay area. one of the reasons I (and im sure for most of us) love green day is for their MELODIC punk. to me, this song is a hardcore goof they put on the record. i always skip this song when listening to the album.

I like this song but its definatly not one of my favorites. It's a good reminder to never piss Billie off. :P

Here is a PERFECT video of a live performance of this song in 1998. Short and … sweet?

i agree with you short and sweet. but not the song... :eyebrow:

ahaaaaaa I love this song, it's so badass :P

Oh yes, exactly.

In all honesty I cannot stand this song.

I'm not always in the mood for this song, but I do like it a lot! It's most definitely angry, haha.

I really like the analogy mentioned earlier in this thread, vomiting the words out.

And I don't understand the chorus. It's only two words, but I don't understand it. Does he wants something back or something? Man, I feel silly now.

I really want to hear it live some time, by the way. Really curious as to how that would sound!

I agree. I find it so amazing that he can sing that song that way and then just stop and smile that big, beautiful smile :D.

Hahaha yeah

I love how this song comes right after Good Riddance

I'm taking it you mean Good Riddance comes right after Take Back? ...which isn't true either, KFAD is still in between.....or do you mean on some live thing? I'm confused! xD

Alot of people said how much they hated this tune in the most disliked Green Day songs thread. Personally I've always enjoyed it because it's different and is very straight up punk.
