Izzard Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 That's the Internet for you, everybody has an opinion and a keyboard. Even the ones who have no idea what they're talking about. I think they misinterpreted Billie Joe's dorky humor. When he made that face after saying that thing about Broadway and never seeing more talented people then when being on Broadway....but whatever he's been saying that even before the Tony's so they can suck it.
monkeyfish Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 i really enjoyed watching the audiences reaction when Greenday were performing! Michael Douglas and Catherine zeta jones rocking out! and nice to see lea michele and jon groff supporting their friend!
SexyBIbiatch Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I found a bit ironical that they were singing ''dont wanna be an american idiot, one nation controlled by the media'' then the cameras closed up the faces of alot celebrities that love ''the media'' and they were singing to it xD. Maybe I'm exaggerating but that was funny. I think they misinterpreted Billie Joe's dorky humor. When he made that face after saying that thing about Broadway and never seeing more talented people then when being on Broadway....but whatever he's been saying that even before the Tony's so they can suck it. Yeah I didnt understand why he made that face, did he was mocking them or not?. And what he is been saying before tony's awards? Sorry Im clueless
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Gotta love Broadway haters: "Did anyone else get the impression that he was mocking and disdainful of the theatre world in his Idiot intro last night (in spite of his compliments to Mayer)? Or merely full of himself? Second question: does anyone else get embarrassed for musical theatre performers when they rock out like they think they're rock stars (like the cast of Idiot)?" "I got the impression that he was stoned." "Billie Joe Armstrong sounds like a tennis player's name." http://broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.php?thread=1017620&dt=12&boardid=1 Especially the last one is one of the best insults I've ever seen. but seriously, wtf. although it does indeed sorta sound like a tennis player's name, now I think about it. But it's still a retarded insult.
ScreamsInSilence815 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 OMG OMG OMG OMG This made me want to see AI even more than I did before. I really hope I can go for my 18th this summer. Gotta love Broadway haters: "Did anyone else get the impression that he was mocking and disdainful of the theatre world in his Idiot intro last night (in spite of his compliments to Mayer)? I made an account to go on the forums, but deleted it after people were total assholes to me.
leacalifornia Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 It was really refreshing to see the GD performances amidst all the other theatre performances. It made me really appreciate their energy on stage... and billies speech was adorable!!
*withoutadoubt* Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Yeah I didnt understand why he made that face, did he was mocking them or not?. And what he is been saying before tony's awards? Sorry Im clueless I was a bit confused myself. He said, and keep in mind, he was reading from the teleprompter, "We have never been around so many creative and talented people as we have on Broadway." Was the face he made after just one of those patented BJ silly looks, or because he didn't write that line and didn't agree? I don't think the stuff on the tele is written by the person reading it, is it? I mean, they have writers for stuff like that.

He's said basically exactly the same before in interviews and such, so I highly doubt he made that face in a mocking way. It's very possible he didn't write that thing he read himself, but I don't think he disagreed with that line.
Sanity Loan Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 He wasn't very clear about who he was, who "we" were (Green Day), and about what his point was.

He said he was going to try his best to make it not look like he was reading it...so then after reading that first part he stopped made that face and said "so far so good" so I think that whole face was just in reference to him trying to make a joke about not reading it off the teleprompter, not him dissing Broadway. He's said for a while now that he's never worked with more talented people, than the people on Broadway, in like every interview about the AI musical.
HoneyDo666 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Where Does LEA Say It's Amazing? At the end of Green Day's performance of KYE.
Bastard of 1967 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 When I left to watch the Tonys last night there were 12 pages in this thread - now it's up to 34. WOW! So a couple of thoughts: when the show started and they were on stage, my husband's reaction was, "wow, I went to the Tonys and a GD concert broke out. How awesome!" Reminds me of the April 22 AIOB show during opening week, that's the one where Green Day jumped up on stage after the curtain call and rocked the house with AI and Basket Case........ it's just so amazing when they take over a house like that. In my experience, Broadway World posters are the biggest bitches ever. They make EVERYONE look bad. If Billie Joe became a tennis player, I'd be the ball girl. He'd probably accidentally hit someone in the head with his racket. No, it would be Mike who'd do that, not Billie. i really enjoyed watching the audiences reaction when Greenday were performing! Michael Douglas and Catherine zeta jones rocking out! and nice to see lea michele and jon groff supporting their friend! Michael Douglas' head-bobbing was PRICELESS. Just as good (and as telling) as at last year's VMAs when Katie Perry rocked out to EJN.
Bastard of 1967 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Just a random thought -- I watched the HD capture of the cast/band's opening series (BOBD/Holiday/KYE) a few minutes ago (thanks a ton for the uploads Matt!!), and the thought hit me right at the lyric in KYE: "bringin' on the fury/the choir infantry/revolts against the honor to obey" -- they sure did! The whole performance seemed so deliriously and delightfully out of place at the stuffy Tony's. The musical theater old-timers, critics, media, producers, etc. may have collectively branded Green Day, Michael Mayer, and the AIOB cast as unwanted infiltrators, but the show definitely got its "revenge" (if that's the right word) last night. What an amazing performance, and what a fantastic way to say "you lose, we're here, the punk rock generation has made its mark on Broadway, and now you have to deal with us." Yeah!
Mar Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I just watched Billie's "speech" and I'm still laughing my ass off. I mean, we all know that he is not one for speeches but this must have been the most awkward thing EVER. Just one of the many, many, many reasons why I love that guy so much. As for the performances, Green Day's was great (as usual), but I really didn't like the cast performance that much. They sounded good when they all sang together but the solo performances were somehow weird and powerless ( I did like the chubby guy in the red shirt though - don't know his name).Overall I think they could've done better. Btw, did anyone notice Billie's shoes on the red carpet? They looked all old and worn out, just the right thing to wear with a spiffy outfit I agree with all of this! I think the cast is amazing, I just wasn't a fan of this American Idiot performance. I thought BOBD was great, though.
StateOfGrace Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Will Smith during Green Day's performance was PRICELESS

heartscollide Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Will Smith during Green Day's performance was PRICELESS LOL IKR? He was really ~getting into the song. But hah Ryan Reynolds looked so unimpressed.
