Angie-Marie Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 The Tonys got so much shit for awarding Jersey Boys the best musical, a ~JUKEBOX MUSICAL~, they couldn't give it to another one that's in the somewhat same fashion, so I'm not surprised at all. I just though Fela was going to get it, that's what surprised me. Ah, see, I didn't realize that. I don't really follow the Tonys and I'm not really up on the Broadway shows, so I had no idea.
Boston Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 American Idiot was never going to win Best Musical, so I'm not mad. Its a feat that they performed with Green Day and won two technical awards.
gdpony Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 fuck the Tony's! though I didnt think AI would get it
watsername182 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Yay! No more live stream to slow down my internet connection. Now I can watch the opening performance.
Tubbie Head Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I knew all along American Idiot didn't win. well, I kind of did too... But refused to think so.
Robin105 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Same Plus, I hate to say this, I didn't think American Idiot was a great performance, at least the beginning. The end was good, though. I can't judge the opening performance yet. I actually knew the other 2 awards they won too. I remember when we voted the day after voting ended we found out American Idiot didn't win. I thought it was good. (the performance)
mallorymaloney Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I thought the 'pssshhhhh's made the AI preformance more real, to be honest ... That's the kind of 'sound effects' I make when I rock out/sing along to songs in my room, haha.
HoneyDo666 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Apparently it's all about what will tour best. Screw you shows that refuse to break the mold.
mallorymaloney Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Apparently it's all about what will tour best. Screw you shows that refuse to break the mold. This. So much this.
Yana.A Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 It was painfully boring watching that show! exept the times when Green Day was on
Fuzz Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I honestly thought the show had a shot to win Best Musical. Bummed it didn't.
HoneyDo666 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 so na na na is the best musical? Isn't the originality mind-blowing?
Tubbie Head Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I didn't really like the AI performance, the "psshs" were really annoying. Yeah, wtf was that? It looked like they were doing rap or something loool
watsername182 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I'm glad that the Tony committee even nominated the musical. The cast put on a great performance and Billie seemed proud of them. I guess that's all that matters at the end of the day. Plus, the show won 2 out 3 awards!
mac16 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 As much as I loved American Idiot, Memphis really deserved it. I mean, they are both Tony-worthy, but Memphis had that IT factor. Don't worry, atleast they were nominated! That's a huge honor!
ParadoxAndPlaid Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I thought the 'pssshhhhh's made the AI preformance more real, to be honest ... That's the kind of 'sound effects' I make when I rock out/sing along to songs in my room, haha. I'm not sure it was on purpose either. I think the mics just happend to pick it up better than the one's the cast is used to. I didn't hear it when we went to see it.

Joy of suburbia. Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I'm glad that the Tony committee even nominated the musical. The cast put on a great performance and Billie seemed proud of them. I guess that's all that matters at the end of the day. Plus, the show won 2 out 3 awards! Yeah, that's true. The play is still a winner in my book.
Tubbie Head Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Anyone recorded Billie's speech? I want to see it badly!!
spark in the night Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 or maybe Memphis was actually better? chill out people. Green Day had a great success with their first Broadway show, but all these other guys are pros of the business. I have not seen either shows so I cannot deduce what performance is actually better, but it is what it is. They're lucky enough to even be at the Tony Awards.
Vrock09 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 As much as I loved American Idiot, Memphis really deserved it. I mean, they are both Tony-worthy, but Memphis had that IT factor. Don't worry, atleast they were nominated! That's a huge honor! I know, I agree, at least they were nominated, and they did win two already! They need to celebrate either way, and should go all out tonight, FBHT style!!!!!!!!!!
blitzkriegdeb Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Regarding the performance, it was so-so. The lights and the fact that Alysha randomly came down on the harness were the only parts that bugged me. And, maybe it's just me being a moody ass, but the whole thing seemed messy to me.
Tubbie Head Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 It was painfully boring watching that show! exept the times when Green Day was on I actually liked it, except that everytime GD were on, the live stream stopped for me
Hermione Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Anyone recorded Billie's speech? I want to see it badly!! Me too!
