Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 No offence but there are a few greedy people in this thread. It's a nice song, why should only diehards hear it? Well... It's not like only diehards should hear it, but with a song like this being a single, it's just got quite the potential to be overplayed. And I know this is a lame argument, but non-fans won't appreciate it as much (or at least differently) as fans will, not knowing the background of the song (written almost 20 years ago for Adrienne) and not having been waiting for a recording of it for a year or so. I'm really torn on things like this, on the one side I want it out in the world so many people can hear and love it and it's just, well, like you said, greedy to deny people that just for your own good, on the other side it's the fan/non fan appreciation thing (and, not gonna lie, maybe too the 'a gem only for the fans' thing....), and that it might get overplayed.
JeanJeanie Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Oh god I can imagine the teenies now: OMFG!! BILLY WROTE THAT SONG FOR MEE!!! OMGGG!! LET ME DREAM!!!! .
Maddy. Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 No offence but there are a few greedy people in this thread. It's a nice song, why should only diehards hear it? I don't see it as greedy. I just don't like seeing people listening to it and not fully appreciating the background of it, like Sanne said. On the other hand I'd love this song to be shared with the world but it never works the way we want it to. It'd be perfect if everyone loved it because of the story behind it and they feel a certain sentimentality towards it. But once a song like this becomes popular, people only listen to it because it's popular and catchy. They no longer get the feel of it. I'm very protective of songs like these. Beautiful songs like these shouldn't be ruined by the media or be played everywhere. I don't want it to be available to everyone like a feckin whore. To a lot of people this is greedy but not to me. I'm just protective.
Rebel07 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Possible music video would be AWESOME Yeah I don't see the problem with it being a single either... I don't listen to the radio anyway so thats probably why I don't care if its overplayed.
Guest Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Interesting... I don't know if I'd like it to be a single or not... Would they did a music video for it?
Guest Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 It seems almost too private to release as a single, I kind of hope there isn't a video.
Tripe Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Ew, no. For the reason Sanne gave. I don't want everyone and their granny singing this. It's not right. It's my precious. Mine. >: ( LOL. We still have Drama Queen as our own.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 LOL. We still have Drama Queen as our own. It's just not the same!
poisonoak Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 LOL. We still have Drama Queen as our own. what?! that song is being released?
Maddy. Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 What kind of music video could Green Day use to fuck it up, I wonder? LOL. We still have Drama Queen as our own. I dislike that song. Idk why.
Sarah.Scumbag Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Ohh, that's interesting.. I think this song could gain them a few new fans..
Guest Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 What kind of music video could Green Day use to fuck it up, I wonder? Dancing girls like whatsername/mother mary? /off topic new ava
Maddy. Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Dancing girls like whatsername/mother mary? /off topic new ava Looking forward to it. /thank you
Ally Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 its been played on the radio here to, my dad rung me from work to tell me there was "a new green day song on the radio" so i made him repeat the lyrics to me, and it was when its time
Tripe Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 what?! that song is being released? Nooooooo. I just meant it was kind of an "underground GD fan song" that people would have only heard if they were either at the few shows where it was played (Pittsburgh and maybe one other, is that right?) or watched online via crappy concert video. I don't see it - Drama Queen - being released any time soon.
Holly Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 But I like it being our secret little song.. I shouldn't be so possessive and want more people to hear such a beautiful song! I can't work out why I don't want them to actually.. It is just nice to have it like it is now.
klytaemnestra Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 i heard this song for the first time yesterday.. i love it, but there are diehard fans (i.e. me) who've only just found it, so..

Ok a song is song and you don't have to be a fan of the band in order to really appreciate some of there work. Holey Crap people it's a song, a great song. If you don't want to hear it on the radio change the station. I'm sorry so let me get this straight, You guys like Green Day but you don't want to hear their songs on the radio and you don't want their songs to have music videos? I'm really not trying to be rude...but i just don't get that at all.

You do have to have a slight understanding of the band to recognise something in a song that makes you fall in love with it. I know a lot of people who really love Boulevard of Broken Dreams, for instance, because it's a cool song. But they don't love it in the way that I do. It's hard to explain. I just feel a sort of connection, I realise how much I love Green Day when I listen to it. It makes me proud of them, and it evokes a lot of emotion. It's much much more than a cool song to me. I do quite like hearing their songs on the radio and having other people listen to it. In the perfect world everyone could fall in love with the song and feel the connection like I said in the previous paragraph. But usually it doesn't work that way. To them it's just a song they like to listen to and that's all. That's fine with me. But this is just a song that doesn't want to be heard by the masses because it means a lot to me. If it would just be a regular song on the radio or television it would sort of lose its magic. That was really badly explained. But I tried.

Lol that line said it all, i see where you are coming from. But I don't agree with what you said about the band thing. there are so many songs that I have a huge connection with and I sometimes don't like or don't really know the artist or band that it's by.

I'm really not trying to be rude...but i just don't get that at all. I'm not saying that, but if you aren't a fan you aren't going to know that Billie Joe wrote this song 20 years ago for his now-wife of almost 16 years, you haven't been waiting for a recording of it for over a year. Of course you can really appreciate a song if you aren't a fan, I'm not saying you can't, but there are just some things you won't know as a non-fan, and those things add extra dimension to a song. And I also agree with what Maddy said about that part, that if you 'know' the band it isn't just a cool/wonderful/this is the best song ever I love it song, it's also got something extra to do with the band and the emotional connection with the band. And it's not like I don't want it on the radio, I just don't want it overplayed. Especially with songs like this, if they're overplayed they just lose something. It can still be a wonderful song after that and maybe it won't make you like it less, but then it's, less special, I guess? There are certain songs I don't listen very often, not because I don't like them, but because I don't want to listen them to often so they stay special. And to some people it's just another song on the radio or on tv, which, well, like Maddy said, takes away some of the magic.

It's different for everyone, I guess. Usually if I have such a connection to a song, I want to know more about the artist. If they can overwhelm me with one song, they must be able to with more. Green Day did so. That's how most of us became fans, after all.
