Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I don't think he was being serious when saying "we'll definitely make another rock opera". It's hard to determine without any nonverbal communication thingy (-->it's text), but I hardly think they'd say that seriously, especially this far in advance.
AnnA™ Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Interesting. I still feel like 21st Century Breakdown is new, but I'm always glad to hear stuff like this.
Maddy. Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 lol its fuck time for ai cast ? XD For some reason I find this hard to believe. And I'm pretty sure that if it's on their new album, that .. it just wouldn't fit, y'know? It's more something for a new Foxboro Hot Tubs album, in my opinion. I think Green Day are viewed as a more "serious" band right now and this song wouldn't ~go. Does anyone understand what I'm trying to say?
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Why is everyone assuming It's Fuck Time might be on their new album anyway? Just because they said that the album will have a touch of FHT, doesn't mean that they'll start putting FHT songs on their album

I disagree.
valentinesandcigs Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I can't see them doing another rock opera just because they're good at it If the new album DOES have a mix of hot tubs in it then I'm excited.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 A lot of people were mentioning it a few pages back, saying that it'd be really cool and stuff. I disagree. Ooh, okay. Yeah, they shouldn't put it on a Green Day record. FHT record, yes please, but not Green Day. Exactly for the reasons you mentioned, they're more of a serious band now (although that shouldn't stop them from making fun Green Day songs... Fuck Time is just a little too for a Green Day record).
Abbey. Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Armstrong also declares for Green Day's next album, "We'll definately end up doing something like a Rock-opera again. we're too good at it." And they are especially fond of one new song, written for their Alter ego Foxboro Hottubs, in tribute to the American Idiot cast. Before curtain call, Armstrong says, the singers and dancers gather in a huddle, hands on hands, and shout "Its Fuck time!". "So we wrote a song for them, 'Its fuck time'. " He grins. "We havent told them yet." how cool to lean the back story for ITS FUCK TIME! loved learning that. brilliant.

Exactly. For them to cut back and go all easy would just not work, in my opinion. As Billie Joe says, they like to push themselves to the limit, further. To see what they can achieve. I'm hoping for a rock opera - if this is the case - that has even more power to it and even more of a(n) (abstract) story and characters. Because I know that Green Day can achieve such a thing. In the meantime I'd enjoy some new FHT material, yes please.
Sarah.Scumbag Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Am the only one that it kind of... scares? That they are going to a bit more of a Foxboro Hot Tubs vibe for their new album? I makes me think that Green Day don't enjoy being Green Day anymore and before we know it Green Day could become Foxboro Hot Tubs, and fbht wouldn't be so much of a rarity anymore.. But, then again maybe i'm just exaggerating how much of a fbht sound they are going for..
Eeefaa. Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Here's the thing billie: you are not good at making rock operas. Matter of fact no one is. Most albums with a narrative are bound to fall flat on their ass. Ask Townshend. yeah, true. although I'd probably end up loving it all the same, the rest of the world would be pretty sick of it. gah. i dont think It's Fuck Time would go well on a new Green Day album but both a new FBHT album and a Green Day would be pretty darn awesome
Maddy. Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Even if they aren't good at it, it's still frikkin' awesome.
Marki. Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I don't really care - I'm sure I'll love everything they do
Nele Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I actually can't believe that we've gotarticles like this already, even though it's not much. I thought it would take at least like... 3 years or something. I don't complain though. ^^
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I wonder how accurate they'll turn out to be once the album is out, or further in the process.
Nele Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Yeah... I mean they changed some song titles a few weeks before the album came out. We just have to wait I guess. ^^ (Even though I hate waiting, especially for some GD stuff. )
Eeefaa. Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Yeah, I do wonder Billie is always changing is mind, though, so I wonder what we'll hear next? (Even though I hate waiting, especially for some GD stuff. ) this will definitley be the worst bit
caltrask Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I thought the whole point of the FBHT album was that it was entirely fun and not at all conceptual, so I don't think there's any point to looking for a story thread there. I think GD and FBHT coming together to make sweet, sweet love and music sounds tremendously awesome. I'm only disappointed because I was hoping that 'It's Fuck Time' was signaling a new tubbies album on the horizon but now it sounds like it might not get an official recording. Fingers crossed, legs open!! :eyebrow:

I do, and I agree. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Personally, I am over the "rock opera" thing but either way they should be doing what makes them happy. They don't need the money; they need the emotional and spiritual component of artistic expression. I, of course, will buy it regardless! A lot of people seem to be excited and anxious for a new album and there's nothing wrong with that, but we have to remember to enjoy everything they have already given us. We have years and years worth of Green Day to appreciate! We have to be patient and respect the creative process. It would be great to hear some new songs or new covers on this summer's tour. That would just make the whole concert experience even richer, in my opinion. Am the only one that it kind of... scares? As for the Tubbies, I would definitely prefer to leave the two bands separate. Each has its own unique sound and persona. Besides, I kinda like that they still have an underground alter ego that only some fans know about! It's like going back to 1991... unfortunately, though, there will never be a Dookie II. They have grown up. What's weird is that the fans keep getting younger... While that's a great story, and super cool that he did that for them, I fell like it squashed my hopes for an upcoming FBHT album... PS: "fingers crossed, legs open" = funniest thing I have heard all day! I concur!

And personnally I think that it's a good thing the fans are staying young, because a lot of their older fans do enjoy their music and it's great they can also inherit fans of a younger generation. Maybe that's just my point of view because I am one of the younger fans though.. Also, as for It's Fuck Time, I see no reason why it wouldn't be on a new Foxboro album, all of the fans love it. So why not add it to a new album? We never know what they have hidden up their sleeve. (:
Hermione Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I can hear plenty of Foxies influence on 21st Century Breakdown, there's lots of shared themes and use of language in the two albums. They experimented by doing those Foxie songs and, like any other music/style they might experiment with, it influenced the album they were working on. FBHT is a lot of fun, of course, but there's some pretty dark and deep lyrics on Stop Drop And Roll too. It isn't just a black and white thing where Green Day is serious and FBHT is fun and they have nothing to do with each other. Green Day and FBHT are already very much connected, that doesn't mean they can't be enjoyed as two separate bands. All this article really tells us is that they're enjoying what they're doing at the moment, they like rock operas and being the Foxboro Hot Tubs. It doesn't really tell us anything about what their next album will be like. There's nothing to get either excited or worried about in terms of the next album.
NickD Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 can we make something clear? LIKE a rock opera and WILL BE a rock opera are completely different things. LIKE could mean it's revolving around a time-period or simply have names in songs, but not telling a story. WILL BE means will tell a clear story. A) he never said it will certainly be LIKE a rock opera and B) he never said it WILL BE a rock opera.

Although I agree that he may not be referring to the next album, I am wondering if you know that "certainly" and "definitely" are synonyms...
