I think I've finally concluded that Whatsername is my overall favorite, but besides that my favorites change every week. This week I'm really into Letterbomb. In fact, yesterday I started learning it on guitar :D

Ah, I love this album so much. Even more so since I saw the show American Idiot. I honestly didn't think it was possible to love the album anymore than I already did, but I guess I was wrong haha :P

This album changed me, without it I would have lost my sanity a long time ago. I still remember the first time I heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams. It was the 2005 Vmas when Green Day opened up, from then on I was hooked. Love them all!

American Idiot is great, but I have 2 words: Overplayed and Overrated.

False and false.

Whatsername is my favorite as well. I just realized that last week. I was listening to it, and it registered with me in a way it never had before. Maybe its because I'm growing up or something cliche like that.

My curiosity has spawned. Why do you not like Homecoming?

:o :o :o :o

How can someone not like homecoming?

I love how you said that you realized that last week, yet it's your username haha ;)

I think the lyrics of this album are simply brilliant. It really shows that the album was done like... from the heart, as pathetic as that may sound. It's definitely one of the best things ever created.

I think everything about this album is so amazing. The lyrics, the music itself, the storyline, the way it's played...you can just feel the energy pouring into you and you get engulfed in the music. And that's the main reason I love Green Day. They go to such great lengths to make music that means something and that people can relate to. I seriously love this album and will never get tired listening to it.

I've been playing it so much that my mom is taking a liking to Green Day too.

Currently listening to Give Me Novacaine. <3

sometimes I think that it's weird how Whatsername ends the album, just because Homecoming is so epic and seems like such a good conclusion. but then again, Whatsername is a song about looking back on experiences, and it makes a lot of sense that it is the last song.

As with many other fans, thie was the album that made me a fan. Love Boulevard of Broken Deams and Holiday! Two of my all time favorites.

Bought this on vinyl today, can't finking wait till I go home so I can listen to it :woot: something tells me its going to sound that much better than a cd.

I said the same about Before the Lobotomy, but the version of Whatsername from the musical just made me adore the original that much more, because their version is just so perfect. I mean, I enjoy all of the songs on the soundtrack, but Whatsername is the one that is the most on par with the original.

The album that introduced me to the best band in the world, some people call them sell-outs, I call bullshit, this is an amazing album. End of.

This album is the legend of all albums ! EVERY DAMN song I can relate to, which is probably why I love their music so much. It's almost impossible to pick a favourite but at the moment it's Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Jesus Of Suburbia and Give Me Novacaine. If I could just travel back in time to their American Idiot Tour.. =/

I love this album, but am I the only one who thinks that the song Extraordinary Girl kind of falls short compared to the rest of the songs? I've tried to get into it, but I feel like it's just generally uninspiring.

On the other hand, it does add to the emotion and story of the whole thing. Can't wait to see it on Broadway this month.

SAME! We should all build a time machine.:lol:

I feel that way too recently! It's not a bad song, it's catchy, and gets stuck in my head sometimes, but it just doesn't feel the same as when I listen to the other songs on the album. Not sure if I really explained myself, but I agree with the way you put it. :)

This album holds a big place for me in my life. To add to what you guys are saying, the ending of Whatsername gets me every time. The last vocals, "In the darkest night if my memory serves me right. I'll never turn back time; forgetting you but not the time" is just something that's so mature, it shows the growth of the JOS character and definitely leaves everything open ended. Like, he's exactly where he began, but he's grown from the experiences he's encountered along the way. Whatsername hurt him, but he also made her hurt him at the same time. In my opinion, I see JOS and St. Jimmy as the same guy (sounds like a movie that's out there, yeah? :P), and when he does this, it frustrates the Whatsername character and she gets so tired of it, she opens his eyes to it (see: Letterbomb). This makes him run away again, but back home instead. So he ends up exactly where he left off, but definitely more mature through his growth throughout the album.

There are a couple of one-liners like that...they just get me thinking and my heart dropps a little because I can feel the character's pain. This album is deep on so many levels, it speaks to everyone here. I love it, I do believe it is one of my favorite albums of theirs.

And to also reply to the above posts, I agree with the Extraordinary Girl comments. It falls short, but the lyrics bring it back up again to par. Musically though, it almost seems like something they just threw on there quickly to fill space, but that's just me.

I still don't get what "on holiday" even means in Holiday. I understand what the song is saying, but I just don't get that line at alll.

:ninja:

"This is our lives on holiday."

I always thought that line meant our lives aren't really working or productive. We should be doing something about the war and Bush, but we aren't doing enough so we're kind of "on holiday." It's not the typical vacation-getaway holiday, but rather, our lives are just stagnant.

For the post before, I see JOS and St. Jimmy as the same guy too. And that last line in Whatsername always gets me. It's so brilliant. I also love the line in Letterbomb: "Where will all the martyrs go when the virus cures itself? And where will we all go when it's too late?" Ahh love this album!

i agree with everything you just posted above me. I never thought of Holiday like that (in fact, it's the song that I've least looked into. I always just thought it was JOS finally out of the house, enjoying the shit out of his time out before all of that lonliness just finally hits him with BOBD). Very smart, you've inspired me to look back into it. haha

And the part in Letterbomb that always gets me is "You're not the Jesus of Suburbia, the Saint Jimmy is a figment of your father's rage and your mother's love. That made me the idiot America". I'm glad they emphasized on this in the cast album, it hit HARD. haha to me it's like the ultimate CLIMAX in the story where JOS is like, "well, shit". It's pretty much the Fight Club of this album. lol

this is the album that got me into green day. i love every single song and whenever i listen to it, i don't skip any.

my faves would be letterbomb, whatsername, jos, holiday, and give me novacaine.

this album is perfect and i think this is one of the best by any artists ever.

and yes, whatsername is the perfect song to end the album!

American Idiot. Changed my life. I would've become so boring and useless, possibly give up on life if this Record NEVER existed, or me picking up the CD and playing the title track over and over. :)

Loved the album, and changed me over completely, and got into every album after that. :D

I have to agree with what people have said above.

I listen to this album, EVERY day pretty much.

It represents me.. in alot of ways.

American Idiot, St.Jimmy, Letterbomb, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Jesus of Surburbia.

Wake Me up, is probably, my all time favourite song, I too have lost people, and the lyrics, the video, everything.. represnts my life. I spent a year learning the song.. I'm a novice on guitar and it was so so hard to learn, I well up everytime I play or listen to it. Nothing gets me like that. At all.

My mum and I are Green Day fans from the old days...mum didnt like the album at first, but I loved it right away
