I love this album, it got mixed up with kerplunk somewhere as i added it to my Ipod and i keep forgetting to change it :P

Only of you is a great song

that bit always reminds me of my ex, cos always wonder if he thinks about me cos i am always thinking about him

does anybody get the chills in the beginning of The One I Want when he goes

"sitting in my room last night starring at the mirror, i couldnt find a reason why-y-y that i couldnt be near her"

the one line alone makes listening to the album worth it. i love the 39/smooth voice to death <3

the one song that i think doesnt get the recognition that it deserves is Rest.

its a bit dull at times, but this was the early beginnings of green day's trademark (and lovely) harmonies.

^ Nah, I don't particularly get them during that song. I get them during I Was There though. Right after the second chorus as it leads into the guitar solo and Billie Joe and Mike's harmonies.

Great album!!All songs are awsome .I'll buy it !!now!!!

it's punk rock..YEAH! I love when billie used to do those solos..god

This album, and Kerplunk! are the best Green Day records.

I like some songs of this album: Going To Pasalacqua, At the library and 409 in your coffee maker :) and maybe a little bit i like the song Green Day ;)

Posted

This is a great album!!I love Billie's young voice!!Favorite songs:Dry Ice,At the Library,Road to acceptance and Going to pasalacqua....

It still amazes me that this was their first album. The songs are WAY better than a lot of modern albums that have the use of $Million recording studios.

tbh, this album doesn't really appeal to me. maybe because it's the fact that tre' hadnt joined green day yet. and yes i know, al is a gud drummer too, but i only listen to stuff from kerplunk onwards.

Posted

but i only listen to stuff from kerplunk onwards.

Just because Tre wasn't in the band yet? =/

Posted

That seems like a strange reason... You're missing out on a great album :)

Okay, I feel stupid now for admitting it, but I've never figured out who that girl on the cover is or is it Adrienne...?

This album means so much to me. I never was a big fan of the earlier stuff when i first heard it (i have learned the error of my ways) Every song on this album has impacted me in so many ways more than American Idiot did. It just hits every emotional nerve in your body when you listen to the genius writings of Billie. You could tell at this early stage of their career that they were gonna be a biiiiiiiiig deal.

Well i heard in the video from their performance at the Den in wigan england in 1991 that it's the same girl who's on some other album, like black sabbath or something but I'm not sure who's album it is.

but I do have a question and I guess here would be the most fitting place to post it. I downloaded a concert from 1989 of Sweet Children at 924 Gilman, it's under the most downloaded concerts or the top 10 live performances to have or something. And that one unknown song I just love, I've seen it on youtube under the name "Billie Joe performs an unknown song at his school". I just think it's so beautiful but I can't understand a word of it so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it! If you do that'd be really sick!!

Someone from GDC actually mentioned the name of the song among the comments in the Youtube video

This song is called What About Today, or World Vs. World.

I'll never forget when I 1st head Green Day....I was in High School and I went to friend of mines house

after school. He was like you gotta hear this band they are the best band ever. So he played me the vinyl

of 39 smooth. I was like mesmerized by the music it was so great. The lyrics just fucking great, it was

like nothing I have ever heard before. I just felt an instant connection to their music. Anyway the very next

day after school I went everywhere looking for Green Day music to buy and I couldn't find it anywhere and

every store I went to was like I never heard of them before are you sure you got the bands name right. Well

the next day at school I ask my my friend, "dude where do I go to get a Green Day record?" I said," I have been

to every store around. Then he told me that I wouldn't find Green Day anywhere in Georgia because they were

with independent label. He said he had gotten the record when he saw them play live in California. So I had him

make me a cassette of it. I was so glad Green Day signed to a major label because my poor cassettes were

so worn out from repeated playing. I was so excited when I could finally go to the store and buy Green Day

records or cassettes anytime I wanted. Also it was great seeing others that I went to school with get a chance to

to hear real music for a change. My life has never been the same since..........

def, anytime!

oh on a side note, has anyone ever figured out what the lyrics to What About Today are? All I can get is the first line =/ It'd really help if anyone happens to know because I've been singing this line for two days now and it'd be pretty sweet to be able to keep going lol

This is definately one of my favourite Green Day albums!

My favourite song is 409 In Your Coffee Maker, because it really relates to me now, especially the lyrics 'and i'm looking back now and where I have gone wrong, and why I could not seem to get along, my interests are longing, to break through these chains, these chains that control my futures aims' because I feel exactly the same way, I hated school and never got along with anyone and I want to be a musician but it's holding me back.

However I do love The Judge's Daughter, because of the amazing solo, and Paper Lanterns because I can relate to it :)

Posted

This is probably my least favourite of their albums, but I still really like it. It's just that I find their musicianship more mature and lyrics more insightful on their later albums. I love the songs Only Of You, At the Library, Paper Lanterns, and Road to Acceptance. :)

I have a question though: How do you say "1,039"? Is it "one-thousand-thirty-nine"? "One-oh-three-nine"? Or something else?
