Moffie Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 PAPER LANTERNS <33 I love listening to those songs on old Gilman recordings. They're gritty and just add something to those songs. I find some of these songs most relatable but I had to listen to some more than a few times to understand what Billie was saying.
boosho Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I absloutely love the bass line in paper lanterns and you really appreciate it when played live in their earlier shows when its just Mike and Tre playing.. its just beautiful
Comedy & Tragedy Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Despite only getting into Green Day during AI, this is my favourite album I love how all the songs are easy to relate to, yet so meaningful. My favourites are Paper Lanterns, Going to Pasalacqua, 409 in You Coffeemaker and Rest. Why they don't play those songs more often, I have no idea.
Holly Ann Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 At The Library! This album is definitely one of my favourites from Green Day.
Kayfabe Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Road to acceptance is the greatest song it is just so true! When Billie says "If you stop a while, maybe if you smile, you would realise that we are the same". You know how you think there are all the different 'groups' and they're all weird besides your own. Try stopping a while and smiling. You will realise that you are the same! I did!
klytaemnestra Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 i can't stand rest idk why. paper lanterns is one of my favourite songs though. <3
Isabel Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Favourite album. I Was There is my favourite Green Day song of all time. The fact that it was written by John doesn't bother me in the slightest because the song just has so much meaning to me and the harmonies sung by Billie Joe and Mike just add to its amazingness <3
Juliette Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I'm kinda torn on this album. I like the songs, but Billie's voice is quite annoying on a lot of them But when they play songs from this live it's just Especially Going to Pasalcqua.
Backyard Skulls Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I love this album <3 My favourite songs are: Going to Paslacqua, I was there, 1000 Hours,409 in your Coffee maker, only of you and One I want. The first 4 songs I listed remind me so much of the lead up to going to see them for the first time in Glasgow. And GTP at Glasgow made that song even more special <3 I like Rest x3, it makes feel relaxed oO
Ally Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I used to hate this album, but about 6 months ago it went from my least fave to my 2nd fave, i totally adore Paper Lanterns, Going To Pasalacqua and 409 In Your Coffeemaker, i don't know what made me change my mind about this album, it was just a case of one day hate it, next love it i think
AnnA™ Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I love it, as I love all Green Day albums. It was probably the one that took me the longest to get into though. My favourite song on it is Only of You. I don't know why, but it's just one of the sweetest songs ever, simple as it is. Going to Pasalacqua comes second, I've always loved that one especially. Paper Lanterns comes third.
Maura99 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 About At The Library: the same thing happened to me at the library once! So I can relate... Love the album, although it took me a while to really get into it. I don't really have a favorite song, they're all pretty great.
Armstump Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I'm listening to this album right now. It's a great album to listen to when someone just broke your heart. But I like it anyway! <3 Only of you is my fav. song.
Clayish Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Worst GD album, but it has a lot of great songs. They just have better material than this
Ally Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Worst GD album, but it has a lot of great songs. They just have better material than this i used to think exactly the same, but now i love it, it seems to take a lot of getting into
jrot Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Seriously, how can people not love Green Day's premiere LP? In all honesty, I think Road to Acceptance can easily make a comeback. I can totally see it being paired with "Minority".
Ila Reto Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 this was the 3rd green day album i owned. starting out with american idiot (and a couple months later, ISH), i felt the need to buy more of the old album i had already been on GDA for about 6 months by that time, knew all the facts, etc, but there was something missing. so on my trip to Germany, i remember, i was sitting at my cousin's computer and looking up which album to buy next. it was obvious that 39/smooth was the choice....reading the lyrics, people's reviews, etc, i loved it before i knew how the songs went (aka before i discovered youtube). so when my dad went up north, i told him to find it for me and he did in some independent record store! and 4 and a half long years later i still have it, not the reprise reissue (which came out only a few months later). man, it was love from the start. there was no transition from liking "new" green day to "old" green day, like i had to deal with months before with ISH (which passed quickly), the entire album just flowed and right off the bat i established favorites (I Was There and Dry Ice are still the ones i skip to all the time, although Road to Acceptance is my absolute favorite). it got me through a lot, and as a young adolecent, i could relate to a lot of the pop-punk infatuation storylines <3 lol i can rant and rant about this album (as with all albums) but first i wanted to just talk about how i got into it. i shall rave and geek out on each song later when i have the energy lol!
Dylan. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I was thinking about 16 yesterday.....that's just one catchy motherfucking song.
Maura99 Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I was thinking about 16 yesterday.....that's just one catchy motherfucking song. Amen to that
Kayfabe Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I was thinking about 16 yesterday.....that's just one catchy motherfucking song. Never got into that song. It's all about At The Library
greendaytone Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 This is a great album to listen to when you're 'in love' and it's unrequited! I love the album though, it's great to go back to after all that they have gone on to since.
petros Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I love this album...It's a great debut..And I like that everyone enjoys to hear these songs live nowadays...
Bailey. Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 i adore this album. i love sitting down and reading the lyrics while singing along. feels so good.
Isabel Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I love the fact that it was released when they were barely adults, I think it's so good in that respect. Like, I can't even begin to imagine writing lyrics like that when I was 16 or 17. Jeez, and that guitar riff from I Want To Be Alone is a lot more complex than stuff from Dookie and Insomniac.
