*Green_girl* Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Let's collect money and BUY THIS FUCKING CLUB!!!!!! you go girl! we cant just stand there looking at this die
Abbey. Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 you go girl! we cant just stand there looking at this die i so agree with you! Sorry! I didnt realise I don't know about anything else, but I cant let this happen, it's too important to punk history. Gilman is a holy place. I might talk to some people I know to see if we can put on a charity gig where all profit goes to Gilman.. See if we can make it a frequent event. no worries...i didnt call the thread by a good enough name evidently!!! glad its getting noticed. you can reach out to the folks at gilman and tell them about running some charity events for them...they would be psyched to hear how we're getting the word out and that we care. pm me if i can help with any contacts over there.
Steven Samuels Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I'm going to make a video about this as soon as I'm healthy (got a cold and a horrible zit outbreak, people listen when you don't look like shit). I don't have a big following but when I get it up, tweet it, retweet it, post it on your wall, hell do it now with everything you've got on this. Gilman can't fade into the dark. I haven't gone yet.
lizziebix Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Actually, from what I have learned of this situation, the landlord is between a bit of a rock and a hard place with the kind of, shall we say, indebtdeness that he has on this property. The Gilman peops say he has been a very kind landlord since they started back in 1986. He has made what seems like some bad decisions and the raising of the rent to the club is one of the unfortunate outcomes of this situation. Gilman is in some kind of restricted use area of development for retail purposes in Berkeley, so ultimately there is a cap on what the actual property value must be worth. All to say that if we can help the folks at Gilman limp to the end of the year, it seems they have plans brewing to turn themselves into a grant-grubbing non-profit. Fundraising will ultimately have to be part of their future unless they can come to some kind of agreement and buy the property from the owner. Spread the word. This place is special to us as Green Day fans, and as fans of a creative independent music scene lets keep Gilman alive! Abbey Thanks for the better explanation. I will definitely donate/ Hoefully they will be able to make it through the end of the year and make the necessary changes to their benefit then.
Peace and Rainbows Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Fudge WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whatsername1533 Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I think next paycheck I'm gonna donate, just don't have the money right now/
CrimsonRegret Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 NOT AWESOME! I read about this on twitter [thanks to abbey, and the venue] and was like OMG I <3 Gilman too much! I'm local too.. sorta and it can't close! We should totally buy it! I'm going to save up and when I can I will donate!
LadyPeacemaker20 Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Well I know where at least half of my allowance is going to next week. But I don't mind. Gilman needs to stay!!
Lyz Z Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Fuck, I'm from Australia and will probably NEVER get to go to Gilman, but it can't close for the sake of so many people! When I have money, it's going to be donated. Gilman cannot close. And can I just say it would be fucking epic if GDC bought it
Liam Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 if they allowed alcohol and raised the member ship fee that could help. but than again they wouldnt want drunken violence.
Liam Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 i decide to start up a facebook group to try and get it to stay open and asking people to donate, you can join here
Comedy & Tragedy Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I joined the group. I can't believe it though. I promised myself I'd go there at least once in my life. I really hope it stays up and running
Opezi Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 omg noo this is terrible. ok im gonna start raising money and im gonna get as much as i can... well thats 31 grand everyyear they are right when they slowly are gonna lose gilman noo. this isnt fair. do they accept checks, if they do i could prob sqeeze in 100$ I joined the group. I can't believe it though. I promised myself I'd go there at least once in my life. I really hope it stays up and running me too, i syill want to go one day but the future of that is looking quite gloomy now
LawaMay Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I'll probs never get to go to Gilman. But I sure as hell don't want it to close down! It's a big part of us and of Green Day.
Opezi Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 im posting everywhere i know to get people to dinate and im so very upset about this wait should i post some flyers informing people and asking to donate with a link of where to donate at and then put flyers up in my HS. do you think that would help? yea im sure it would help if that HS was like pinole valley or something i mean do think maybe there are some poeple who would be willing to donate. even though they prob have never heard of this place?
sammykinz Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I'm totally stealing someone's idea and making a video for YouTube about this. >.> We need to keep the Gilman alive! My mom agreed to donate at least $25, maybe more, and we're really hard up for money. I've never been there, and I probably will never get the chance to go, but I don't want to see the place shut down.
Bexie. Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 I think i'm going to end up donating. When I get paid. Also I joined the fb group Edit: I put the links for the fb group and a link to donate to Gliman in my sig, I think you guys should do the same, spead the word
sara_gd Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Nooooo I'm raising money to go to Berkeley, Oakland, etc when I'm 18 (3 years from now)... I hope it doesn't close
PunkRocks and Coke Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 I got an idea...Green Day buys the venue, uses it as their own little getaway, and keep the place up. I'm pretty sure they (along with Warner) would love to have this. I'll probably donate....Can't get much out of me though. thats an awesom idea
Banan Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 NOOO! I've never been there but i'm planning to so it CANT shut down! Too bad i down have any credit, and im too young so i have to ask my parents which sucks. BUT its my confirmation in two weeks or so, and then i'll probably have a number with three zeros in my wallet, so ill donate then
