Green Day thoughts on technology

Not that this relates to much but I hate what Apple have done to the music industry. Fair enough, I love my iPod. I couldn't live without it but the iTunes Store... thats another story. People never seem to buy full albums anymore, they only buy the tracks that they've heard on the radio and I personally think this is unintelligent. An album is made to be listened to as one piece of art and each track is a different chapter in this bigger picture. American Idiot is the perfect example of this with it having a story running throughout and some of the tracks leaking into others. Now you'll get alot of people out there who would only download one or two tracks from that album and then would be missing out on the gold hidden within. I'm also not a fan of downloading in general because, going back to my point about an album as work of art, you have nothing to see in front of you, to hold and admire. I remember the days when I used to get physical copies of albums and look through the books that came with them and read the lyrics as I took in the music. It's just not the same anymore and it probably never will be again all because we live in a bored, lazy society that need things as quickly as they can get them.

I completely, 100% agree, very well said.

That was cool, thank you Roby. :)

@Homicidal Llama, I agree. I'm one of those oldskool kids that still buys the plastic. <3

"A lot of people are buying it just to figure out what the fuck it is." Apple should make that their own slogan.

This

Me too, when I can get my hands on it. These days the albums I want seem few and far between and although I don't download I end up ordering them off the internet anyway. Not that it really makes a difference to most but CD is much better quality than MP3 as well. Me and my cousin were listening to some music the other day on his ipod through big speakers, we put a CD in after and it was refreshing. It sounded amazing and you could hear every tiny layer of instruments being played unlike flat MP3s. Meh, but they're good to listen to when you're walking or on the train or whatever though.

Haha, Tré is just awesome

But yeah, I agree with them

Thanks for posting :) Tre's the best

 Good points all around. The ipad is pretty ridiculous. And E-books worry me.

And E-books worry me.

Oh God, me too. How can you possibly read a book off a screen? I swear in the future everyones eyes are gonna be so fucked from looking at screens all the time. As Billie says, a line needs to be drawn evenutally and technology CAN go to far.

Posted

Oh yes exactly. Apart from the reading from screens thing, which isn't the most enjoyable way to read anyway, I can't imagine it to be very comfortable holding a screen to read a book? Would make it pretty impossible to read in bed (or in bath or something), and just grabbing a book to read for 10 minutes isn't the same. Not even mentioning things like reflection of the sun on it, reading outside...

And I agree on the CD thing, I way prefer a physical something over a file on my computer.

Tre never fails to make me laugh

and looks like Billie is not tooo friedly with technology! ... but I agree .. so many things come out, and we are not even aware of them sometimes!

and about the Ipad.. I also think its stupid =/ .. its a giant Iphone

I caused much comment Tre  xD

Thanks for posting

I feel the same. It just takes all the sentimental value out of collecting music. I think mp3's will be the death of album art. And the same can happen with books now.

That's such a cute video! Yeah, I can't figure out the iPhone. I would never buy the iPad.

Haha, Tre rules :D

tré is so cool at the end XD

I had to use my friend her iPhone once for something and I was like 'wtf how does this work'

So maybe I do need a college degree, no jk :P

Posted

haha Tre! it only took him a second to explain what Billie said in 2minutes

and a college degree to use an Ipad? xD

As usual, Tré Cool sums it up perfectly.

That was nice interview, thanks for posting! I'm also in the club who doesn't understand these nowadays new "great" technical updates. When I first time heard about iPad, I was like really what the fuck. It's really like piece of bullshit. I'm also a person who appreciate real, physical copies of the albums. Hopefully that freaking e-book thing is not going to be a success, it's crazy and it underrates what there has been like hundreds and hundreds of years and it's still working. Really, who the fuck wanna read _a book_ from the screen of some piece of crack called iPad or something? Some things just were some much better before these last two decades.

Posted

thanks for sharing :)

I'm glad they think the same way about the iPad as I do. It's pretty ridiculous. I'm so gonna laugh when I see people using it like in the subway

Posted

Haha, oh Tre.. :P

I really don't like the idea of an ipad, it looks ridiculous. Why would anyone want one? Either just use a computer for the internet and stuff or if you want to read then a book! Not some weird massive flat screen.

I know I've never experienced a lack of technology enough to really have an opinion like this, but I often wish all this technology had just never been invented, or at least I wish I could experience life without mobiles and laptops and ipods everywhere. I agree with what everyone has been saying that downloading music totally takes the sentimentality out of it. And the thought of people reading from a screen is awful. I'm up for moving forward and all, but some things should just stay as they are =/

Posted

What makes me laugh the most is that... Billie goes off for a minute trying to explain why he dislikes the iPad and new gadgets in general... and Tre' just sums up his feelings on it in 6 words. xD

Posted

LOVE U TRE<3333

and i agree with them when they say techonology is overwhelming, i find it to be extremely overwhelming to be bombarded by constant media and new technology.

i dont get the ipad. looks like a giant iphone. like an iphone for old people that cant read the small text....
