Bastard of 1967
oh! really?! thats great!! i usually lose the main focus after a few sentences the funny thing is though, i've been listening to nimrod for a little over 3 years now, and i just figured out that one line about 5 mins ago. now would someone like to explain to me the use of "fat lips and open wounds"? i have a tendency to take things literally, but i highly doubt physical agression was part of the song. maybe "fat lips" as in giving someone "lip", which is slang for being rude and backtalking and "open wounds" as in verbally tearing into someone or opening up old emotional wounds by bringing something up in the conversation? hmm.... If this is metaphoric for anything (that is, not to be taken in a literal, physically-abusive sense) I think it'd be describing the intensity or severity of the fight -- "A knock-down, dragged-out fight" leaving no winners but lots of "fat lips and open wounds". minorty13
Another sentimental argument and bitter love. Fucked without a kiss again - dragged it through the mud One of my favourite parts in a Green Day song ever. Took the words right out of my mouth

Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap
This is definitely my 2nd favourite off Nimrod after Good Riddance, it's just a brilliant song about longstanding relationships. The guitar interlude is Green Day's best as well. I think if Nimrod were a couple of songs shorter it would be seen in the same light as Dookie by more people but I think it's better overall, the songwriting's better and I'd probably say Dookie has more songs you could call filler than Nimrod. HaushinkaholicBMC
Absolutely everything from Nimrod is a full on 10 out of 10 song... No exception here. Love the little break in his voice during the acapella opening to the repeated first verse... On the word "love" love it

*_kiwi_*
"yelling at brick walls and punching windows made of stone" is a line that has always stood out to me. meaning that the arguement is going absolutely nowhere, basically talking to a brick wall about something over and over. and punching windows, which is something that people with anger issues may do, but instead they are made of stone so the window doesnt move and it breaks your hand instead. which alludes back to futile efforts of arguing to make a point, but while trying to make a point, you end up shooting yourself in the foot and creating an arguement. am i making any sense at all? lol I love the way you explained that line *__* Very clear, I would have taken ages to write something like that
-Billiejoezee-
Question, is it my album or is the drum part kinda distorted? It sounds a bit weird all the time...
solongfromthestars
Sorry to randomly bump this ancient thread, but I don't think I was even on GDC when it was started, so... yeah. I realised recently what an amazing song this is. Where do we go from here and what did you do with the directions? Promise me no dead end streets and I'll guarantee we'll have the road. Those lines are just so incredible. To me it feels such a great way to portray how you can begin to feel so lost in a relationship that's for life - how you want it to work, but you're just so frustrated and desperate to find your way back to the road. Suddenly you realise it's not that easy and that fights are gonna fucking happen, they're gonna rip you up. I think as a naive young girl going from never having held a guy's hand to the sudden upcoming responsibility of being a wife, it's helped me figure out what I'm feeling and what it all means... and that sometimes it's going to be hard - no relationship can be perfect - but we've just got to fight to find the road again. Possibly my new favourite song from Nimrod.
San Miguel
the line "fucked without a kiss again" will always be the main reason i like this song, makes me smile so much it's a great song, from a great album. For ages i've said Insomniac is my second favourite album followed closely by Dookie but actually Nimrod is packed full of great songs that i really can't decide between them. Huge credit to Green Day for producing so many amazing albums!
