J'net Posted April 11, 2010 Author Posted April 11, 2010 Ditto. This song was never meant to be done acoustic. All the passion in it drains away, and it doesn't help any that Weezer changed the lyric "fucked without a kiss" to "hugged without a kiss". Instead of Ali vs. Frazier in the ring we get namby vs. pamby instead. No me gusta. Namby vs. pamby ! Perfectly stated.
Bastard of 1967 Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Namby vs. pamby ! Perfectly stated. Maybe I should copyright that........
justcause Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Love reading your interp. as always, Angeline...and once again your words inspire my own. Thanx, and kudos to you for the well-thought-out stuff you post, too!
tommy_huggs Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Great song choice this week. I love this song and the lyrics have certainly become more relevant to me as I have gotten older.
Metanoia Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 aaw...... one of my fav songs on nimrod i think its beautiful and i always enjoy listening to it
EuropeanIdiot Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Oh one of my favourite Green Day songs ever. I could have it on repeat for the whole day - the lyrics are so awesome.
Comrade Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 This is one of my favourite Green day songs. I can relate to so much of it so well. The lyrics are just so raw and from the heart.
Mar Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Anyone heard the Weezer version? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt9eIADShRk I really love the Weezer version. The "drenched in love" is what is so wonderful about this song. If the words and feel were only able to be taken at face value, it wouldn't have half the impact it has! But the tune and tone of voice (and some of the words and combinations of words) make it obvious that the love is what the song's all about. That's what I love about Nimrod; even with these songs filled with self-loathing and a fair amount of bitterness, you have songs like Worry Rock and Redundant which totally express adoration.
Ila Reto Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 LOVE this song so much, Nimrod <3 <3 <3 and i can relate to it well. you can just see like, "another wasted night, no one will will take the fall" a couple sitting in a room somewhere pissed off at eachother and neither of them are willing to give in to the other. its a constant struggle because both feel that they are right about something, so its basically a wasted night of arguing because it doesnt lead to anything but another arguement later.
DecanoLP Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I don't listen to this song really often although it is simply amazing. The lyrics are so strong and beautiful. Another sentimental argument and bitter love. Fucked without a kiss again - dragged it through the mud One of my favourite parts in a Green Day song ever.
Armstump Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Good song. I always feel better after listening to this song. Duuno why.
LilyMarie Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I love this song, too. It so perfectly expresses the 'oh god, we're having the Same. Fucking. Fight. AGAIN - but I love you more than I hate the fight, so we'll get through it as many times as we need to'.
Eeefaa. Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 this song is just so beautiful... and thats all i can say, its the fact that it's understated which makes it so amazing. songs which show this side of a relationship are so rare.
Johannamunter Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I don't listen to this song that often, but it's a nice song with a nice melody but not one of my favourites
Emmalee Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 One of my favourites from Nimrod, one of those one's I always loved but never really knew why I really like "Promise me no dead end streets, and I'll guarantee we'll have the road"
Nzap Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Get's me in a happy mood and calms me down. the song is just so, calm, no rush, taking it easy. Great song, I have liked it more and more as time has gone on.
Jaymee!! Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 One of my Top 10 all time favourite songs. Love it.
umbjisfhinefum Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 i used to listen to this song over and over and over and over and over. i remember in freshman year i wrote the lyrics on the paper bag cover of my english book and my dad saw it and got mad at me for writing "fuck" hahhaha but seriously, this song is amazing and one of my favorites on nimrod...the opening line is the best
Mar Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 i used to listen to this song over and over and over and over and over. i remember in freshman year i wrote the lyrics on the paper bag cover of my english book and my dad saw it and got mad at me for writing "fuck" hahhaha but seriously, this song is amazing and one of my favorites on nimrod...the opening line is the best That reminds me of the time I had a sticker of JC from *NSYNC (judge me, I know...) on one of my book covers, and he was doing the peace sign, and of course, his index finger got ripped off and I didn't realize it, and someone else told on me and my teacher was about ti give me a demerit until I explained it was an accident! I don't know why I just told that story...
Ila Reto Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 "yelling at brick walls and punching windows made of stone" is a line that has always stood out to me. meaning that the arguement is going absolutely nowhere, basically talking to a brick wall about something over and over. and punching windows, which is something that people with anger issues may do, but instead they are made of stone so the window doesnt move and it breaks your hand instead. which alludes back to futile efforts of arguing to make a point, but while trying to make a point, you end up shooting yourself in the foot and creating an arguement. am i making any sense at all? lol

You're making perfect sense.
Ila Reto Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Absolutely! You're making perfect sense. oh! really?! thats great!! i usually lose the main focus after a few sentences the funny thing is though, i've been listening to nimrod for a little over 3 years now, and i just figured out that one line about 5 mins ago. now would someone like to explain to me the use of "fat lips and open wounds"? i have a tendency to take things literally, but i highly doubt physical agression was part of the song. maybe "fat lips" as in giving someone "lip", which is slang for being rude and backtalking and "open wounds" as in verbally tearing into someone or opening up old emotional wounds by bringing something up in the conversation? hmm....
theeulogy Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 It's not my favourite song, but it's still good!
