Good idea. Won't happen though.

Agreed. It is a cool idea and everything but a music video takes a huge effort and with no prizes or anything from it people aren't exactly going to find the motivation to make one.

that's what i hought when i was organising the calendar: but i had more cooperation than i actually needed ;)

Trust me. I've been a media student and without the proper equipment and only aided with a digital cameras making a 'mini-movie' just looks amateurish at best. If anyone needs any help editing though I'm on hand. I've got a pretty expensive editing package that does the job!

Okay, so if I get this right, this is basically a competition on who can make the best music video? or will people make a music video and you edit parts of it together or something? (Yes, I understand that this is supposed to have a story or something like that, not just lip syncing).

But yes, I don't think many people can do that. I like the idea, but I can't edit videos for shit and the only camera I have is from my cellphone and iPod (well, that last thing can be solved as making a music video can barely be done on your own, and my friends do have normal cameras, but still, nothing professional), and it takes a lot of effort to make something like that (more than for the calendar thing, which is mentioned). And something which is "put a lot of effort in something and then we'll vote which one is the best and that's it", I'm not particularly motivated to do that. Now maybe that's just me, though.

This is what I've thought from when I first read this thread. It's the sort of thing that requires some form of prize for people to want to do it. The collab video was just a bit of fun but this is like a big project that could take hours of time and effort.

yeah i get your point =/

well is there anyway to make it more motivational? (prizes, banners etc.)

Well, I think even if there is a prize or banner, still not many people will do it, just because it really takes a lot of time and effort. With a contest like this you know there will be one or two people who have awesome videos that look semi-professional because they do it more often and/or have the gear to do it, and the rest would just be less good. No offence to anyone, but only that already puts me off doing this. I might do something like this some time because I really like the idea of doing it, but I'd do it because I think it would be a fun thing to do with friends, not because of a contest. (:

that's just my opinion though.

why don't we do a project just for fun instead of a contest. the only motivation is having fun and there would be no need to be professional, just creative. i always wanted to do something like this and i think many would participate like this XD

(original post removed) edit: wait no, I forgot what I wanted to say. But I like the idea

^^same. I would do it without any prizes or something.

But...will we choose one video to be the winner oder do you cut like 4 or 5 videos together?

Posted

nothing i just thought you would be a bit of fun for people to go out and make there own music video instead of one of them just lip syncing and doing stuff, which is pretty good.

ah i see now  well, best of luck! i dont think ill be able to participate in anything for the next three months, but have fun guys

Can every one just read the first post now.

i just want to chose the song for now than we will sort of every thing else properly

Don't hate me for commenting so much, but wouldn't it make more sense to first figure out what we are supposed to do before choosing a song? just because, then you can find a song that fits what you're supposed to do and all....

Maybe we should do Homecoming. It's a lot like JOS in the way that it's more of a story that can be acted out, it doesn't have a real music video, and it's a fucking great song. I can see possibilities with that...

I thought we were allowed to actually PLAY the song and that's what I was looking forward to. If you want to have the real Green Day song superimposed on the actual sound, I guess that less motivation for me. But hey, it's a good idea. :D

teenagres from mars would be a good one :D

I like the idea, but on the other hand I know that I don't have good equipment for it. I'm able to edit an entry for the Collab video but a 4 minute or longer music video? Not really sure about that. I'd even need someone to hold the camera and even though I can act out the whole thing in my head but it's always harder to play it out in real life.

I think a song with a lenght of over 9 minutes would take more than a few hours of work. And if people don't have the right equipment and the quality is semi bad or something, I don't really know if it would be worth it.... =/

Take my advice; for my last year of my media course we had to produce alot and I mean ALOT of music videos. These took weeks to edit and even then I was never happy with them. This idea is ambitious I'll give you that but just won't work. I still think that it would be a better idea to just get a bunch of people to play a song and others to sing over the top. Fair enough it would be like the collab video but they'll be actually singing/playing. Putting their soul into the project and thats motivation enough. A music video on the other hand, no offence to anyone but these won't turn out well. people just don't have the time. Do you know how many edits there are in your average music video to make it flow so smoothly? At least 500. That would be 500 shots somebody would have to sit and edit. Thats just my advice from experience though. Take it or leave it.

I like the idea of setting it up like a contest and for the song idk, if I have to pick a song off 21st CB I would say the Static Age.

i wanna be in it.....

sounds good :) ill think of a song........

what are the rules. whats this whole idea of a GDC music video?

I like the idea.

But I don't like the competition idea.

Why does everything have to be a competition? Make it just for fun would be much better I think. Maybe less members will be in it, but we have to deal with that I guess. Those people who only want to join because it's a competition are a lil'sad.

I think Teenagers from Mars is a great idea. But JOS isn't posible. It will take too much time.

I had to make a vid. for school 2 years ago. The vid. lasted 4 minutes but I took over 6 hours to film it. So JOS will take days..

i kind of get it... if its what i'm thinking in my head, it could be really cool
