Salmonator. Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 THANK. YOU. Warner is just one big fucking fail.
ParadoxAndPlaid Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Very true, well said, and good job writing it with a little class and maturity. It's hard to take people seriously when they say: "omg ur fanclub sux, fix it!"
spark in the night Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I can tell you one thing, you do NOT sound professional when you have curse words in your complaint letter.
netty Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 t-shirts have finally been delivered and will be mailed starting this week.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 One of the things it says on the page telling people what they get for joining is "Periodic contests with exclusive prizing and random giveaways". The trouble is, virtually all of these contests and giveaways are only for people already going to specific concerts, or who live in very specific places. I don't think they should write that on there unless they're going to do a decent amount of contests that don't only apply to a tiny number of people. In the year since I've joined I think that thanksgiving vinyl competition was the only one. It also says "Exclusive photos, video and audio". I haven't seen any exclusive video or audio. If they could offer a few little videos or something it would make all the difference. They'd only have to do a couple of little things and it would bring them a lot closer to accommodating every single person. The impression that I get is that they're not particularly bothered whether they're doing that or not, they're only bothered about getting the membership fees and doing as little as they can possibly get away with in return. I completely agree. But for the European shows in October they did presale tickets, band photographer passes and soundcheck passes though Not for every show. For the two shows I went to last year was only one of them band photographer (for which I couldn't apply because I don't have a camera, floor tickets or any ability to write a decent recap), and for the rest no soundcheck or presale anything. and the t-shirt thing irks me too, I don't want to pay an extra $10 for a shirt I don't want or like.
The Breakdown Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Awesome letter. Fortunately I'm not in the club. There isn't much for people like me anyway. However, if what Idiot Club offers to me is close to home I'll jump on board. Till then, I'm staying away.
Mrs.Kerplunk Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 good letter. well done. glad i havent joined the idiot club. so many people said its absolutely not worth it.
Anja Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Actually if you wanna renew now it's $30 ($25 in the US). $10 ($5 in the US) of that is for shipping of the free t-shirt you get when you renew. Unfortunately they're not offering the option to just pay $20 and not have the t-shirt for some unknown reason, you HAVE to have it and pay the shipping if you want to stay a member. Which is a shame because I don't want it. It's that kind of thing that annoys me. I knew exactly what they were offering when I joined and I made the free choice to join just for presales and possible competitions to help me get a good spot at concerts. I was fine with paying $20 for that. Why can't they just let me do that again without forcing me to pay the shipping on a shirt I don't want? Really? Don't you just have to pay those $20 again if you want to renew it? And that free tee, they don't have that anymore, do they? Because I never got one
Minority_GD Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 That's a great letter. I really hope either Warner or Green Day will read it. But for the European shows in October they did presale tickets, band photographer passes and soundcheck passes though They didnt do Presales for the shows I went to and they didn't give soundcheck passes either. Oh and the band photographer thing : Svään won for the cologne show, an he wasn't able to get his pass and people in europe weren't even allowed to stand where the photographers stood. they were only allowed to take professional camras in, an since not that many people have professional cameras, it was pretty useless.
netty Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Really? Don't you just have to pay those $20 again if you want to renew it? And that free tee, they don't have that anymore, do they? Because I never got one you wont have done yet because they have only just received them as I said in my last post. you will get it at some point soon. why it has taken this long I dont have a clue. they should have waited until they actually had them before announcing this. as for those who dont want it.... I believe other fan clubs have higher "all inclusive" fees and t-shirts and whatever are sent out when people join. the idiot club wasnt set up for that to begin with so it was either just raise the normal fee and send them out or make it a one off thing with additional shipping fees. considering what some companies charge for shipping to the UK (adeline absolutely floored me with their shipping fees the other day) $5 or $10 extra is minimal. especially when you arent paying for the actual t-shirt.

Smoothed Out Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 *standing ovation* it's brilliant, hopefully you'll get a reply out of Warner or even GD. I think you've summed up perfectly what the majority of us have been thinking for quite a while
minorty13 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I renewed months ago and do not have a shirt to show for it. So I am wondering the same thing... where are the shirts? Anyways.... it is not only Green Day's fans who are being screwed by the IC, Green Day themselves are getting screwed by it because of bad news of the IC leaking out like it is. Some of that membership money HAS to be going to the band. I used to spend time on the IC a lot more until it went dead... now that the GDC has a chat room that actually has people in it, (and essentially has all the threads the IC has), I do not feel like going to the IC anymore and probably will not renew next year. Yea wth is up with the shirts?? I've emailed like 300 times asking but nothing
Isabel Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Not for every show. Maybe it wasn't possible for them to provide prelase tickets/soundcheck passes/band photographer passes for each show. Sure I didn't have any help from the IC with my tickets for Belfast and there were no competitions for that show at all. But a lot of other shows had them. I'm sure the reason why they couldn't provide thm for each city was probably down to the individual venues, because I can't imagine the IC admins sitting there going "Ok we'll exclude certain cities from the competitions." And with regards to Svan not being able to get into the band photographer pit, that's really unfortunate. But those passes worked in loads of other cities; it must have been a mix up with the venue or something. I'm not excusing it at all because that's really shit luck for him, but I don't think you can blame the IC for that
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 To be honest, I'm not sure if there's much point in sending the letter to Warners. I wrote one about HLAHG (which I now feel like a complete tosser about) and never got a response. I think a lot of the problems could be sorted if they stop charging people. If the mods don't get paid and forums like this are run for free, where does all that money go ? I'm not an expert, but I'm assuming competitions and pre-sales don't cost thousands of dollars to organise.
Hermione Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 ^I'm wondering the same thing. you wont have done yet because they have only just received them as I said in my last post. you will get it at some point soon. why it has taken this long I dont have a clue. they should have waited until they actually had them before announcing this. as for those who dont want it.... Maybe they have higher "all inclusive" fees because some of the money is actually put back into doing stuff for the members? $10 is completely reasonable for shipping, but I don't see much evidence of what the other $20 is spent on.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Maybe it wasn't possible for them to provide prelase tickets/soundcheck passes/band photographer passes for each show. I'm sure the reason why they couldn't provide thm for each city was probably down to the individual venues, because I can't imagine the IC admins sitting there going "Ok we'll exclude certain cities from the competitions." That might be so, but that still doesn't change the fact that if you're in an unfortunate situation (which in this case a lot of people are), those $20 really are quite a waste. If it weren't for the miracle that I'm going to Paris this year (which I don't think many people from my country do) and there were IC presales for that, I wouldn't have had one single extra over people who aren't a member (well, apart from some awful quality photos that for 90% end up in the GDC picture threads anyway, and one contest with a tiny chance to win). Now I know it isn't guaranteed any of that would happen, but it still pisses me off. And I agree with Hermoine on where those $20 go to.
Supermodel*Robot Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Print the letter off and throw it onstage. Jokes. Just don't renew your IC next time.
Hermione Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 ^And then she'll still be down £80 in bank charges that the IC caused her. And the IC will continue to think it's OK to let stuff like that happen.
Minority_GD Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Print the letter off and throw it onstage. Jokes. Just don't renew your IC next time. I like the first idea more.
E!!i Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 great letter but I don't know if anybody of them will read this but the try was it worth and it achieved something: I won't enter to this club
matteo263 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 We should all write on huge letter from everything we don't like about were greenday is going. If it is signed by everyone at GDC they will read it. We should really do this and show our love for what they do and our disapprovals for some things as well. who's in?
